Baclofen Pump Surgery Day June 4, 2015

June 4, 2015 Daniel goes into the hospital to have a baclofen pump placed. Baclofen is a medication that works as a muscle relaxant. The pump is placed inside so that it delivers baclofen directly to the spinal fluid.
About my channel.......
My middle son, Daniel John Hasselberger was born on November 22, 1997, with a rare brain deformity called Polymicrogyria. The deformity happened due to a virus called CMV, or cytomegalovirus. He has seizures, respiratory problems, can only eat by g tube, is in a wheelchair, can not speak, and has had countless surgeries and hospitalizations over his 17 years. We are a family of 5 from Sandy Hook, CT and this is our journey.
Every day is full of new things that we don’t expect. I am Julie, Daniel’s Mom. I left my full time career as an HR Director 11 years ago because Daniel needed me. The struggle, the sacrifices, the sibling love, and miracle after miracle.
Why did I create this channel? For support, to help other families dealing with the same diagnosis, to help me cope with depression and isolation, etc.

Hi Daniel and Julie. I'm a wife and mother of 3. I have a pump but mine has fentanyl and bupivicaine in it. I take oral muscle relaxers for my spasticity. The pump has the ability to change lives for the better. Daniel is such a sweet boy! Good luck.

i'm glad the surgery went well! i know the hospital can be such a drag, i grew up staying with my mom in the hospital so i got so used to them but i still hate the sight of them

Hi Julie. I can see that it's been a while when Daniel had the pump implanted. My brother is currently going through tests over the Czech Republic to know whether he'd be right candidate. Just waiting game now. Glad Daniel does ok, it can be tough but our eternal love for our loved ones keeps pushing us to give them the best ❤

Are you still Service dog training with Henry

No. Not doing any training at the moment. Henry completed his advanced canine good citizen. Holly did two levels of obedience. Henry also took 2 training programs in agility training. Hopefully we get back to it some day. I decided early on, that Henry was not going to be a service dog, more of a comfort and support dog, and hopefully a therapy dog

My girlfriend is going for the baclofen pump (she has MS and her legs have bad spasticity). Our question is how long does it take for them to approve to do the surgery?

For now, his pump is permanent. There is low risk to it. The benefits are bigger than the risks. At least for Daniel. His spasticity is very bad without it. Nice to meet you. Warm thoughts to you as you are managing this difficult conditions. ❤️
