I recognize more of that interior than I'd like to! I've worked on an Astro, I feel your pain. The heater in my friend's van worked, but the aircon would go out when climbing a hill. Ah blend door actuator, my old nemesis. Had to do that on my Vic and that job sucks. Have to drop the steering column and take the dash half way out. Then you have to basically cut the old actuator out and notch one of the retaining loops on the new one to get it back in. Did it though and it works.

Thank goodness he took the time to do as much as he did on cam. The dog house or engine cover comes off in two moves. The cosmetic cover that has the glove box and duct work, spare cigarette lighter, 12 Volt chargers and a tray, 2 cup holders. You see him kind of jerk that loose, probably cracked something by the way it sounded. Then you have those 2 screw type top bolts, and 2, 1/2 inch bolts on the bottom. Then the metal cover comes off exposing the engine, and the HVAC Blend door Actuator is on the right side. You can remove the passenger seat for more room. Otherwise you have you contort you body to reach the 4 last remaining bolts to get the metal engine cover loose.

This van is such a PITA! I got here because just today, chasing no heat (a failsafe t.stat locked open, new t.stat didn't fix it, new radiator last summer) and trying to figure out where a loose plug goes, i grabbed the mixing valve and one of the spigots fell off. My flappers don't flap right either, so now I know where the actuator is, gotta look at that, thanks. Kinda think my heater core is clogged as the radiator I replaced was fouled up good.

In the last video you guys asked us viewers what upgrades should the van get. I know this is a survival vehicle but so far Kyle only added weight to it. That won't make it better to drive. I suggest refreshing the engine bay with a cold air intake , new injectors , new lines and replacing plastics. You also could get a new exhaust and change the fluids. Great vid btw.

98 Chevy Astro, love the van for utility. You're not alone, changed vacuum hoses, heater control valve, engine thermostat and engine temp sensor, flushed heater core, burped coolant system, tested vacuum, check electrical and finally discovered that pesky blend door actuator. Opened it up and I had the same broken gear problem. If I could make my own gear from derlin or acetal it would be a cheap fix. Does anyone make the gear to replace it?

Dude. I had the same thing with my girlfriends 1999 Nissan Micra/March. The UK version you have to cut away with dash behind the glove box to get at the filter if you don't want to take out the whole dash . I wouldn't complain but there are factory slits in the bit you have to cut away that just were never cut from factory! What's even more entertaining is that it's got a sticker on the bit I cut away from the dash that says "93" ... Nissan. You cheeky devil you. Pretty sure the later Micras were just made from leftover scrap with a facelift at this point. It's like trying to work on Sylvester Stallone's mum every time she has a problem. xD

I had a Suburban where the heat didn't work and I thought the temp gauge also didn't work. But the temp gauge worked just fine. It was always reading cold because my engine was running cold because my thermostat was stuck open. Truck never warmed up so the coolant never warmed up. Fixed that and my temp gauge read normal and I was getting heat again.
