Bad Boy MZ Magnum Review

A look at the Bad Boy Zero Turn Mower with video of it mowing in action. Not a video of someone visiting a Tractor Supply and sitting on it for a minute to give an opinion. This is a review after 14 hours of use of the features I like and dislike about this mower.

There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

Friend of mine bought one ,been in the shop twice parking brake cable has broke twice choke sticks floods the engine the battery went out ,I’m the one that had to take it and get it fixed for her. I’ll never get a bad boy lawn more I’ve had a Husqvarna for 15 years no problems

Thanks for the info. Do you have smooth ground to mow with the Magnum? I am considering it for my country lawn which can be bumpy and I worry about the back tires being too small. Just don’t know if I can afford the MZ Elite with the 22” tires. Thanks for any info you can provide.

bro my bad boy is about 10 yrs old now its a zt pro 27 hp 60 deck i run mulching blades from them i havent ever repaired a thing just maintanance thats it they are built like a tank enjoy

@@georgia03a3 That's funny, I'm a technician when it comes to striping out a property. Please be kidding me because I would bet my life I've been doing this as long as you been alive. If you want to learn how to stripe out a property properly, it's what I do every time I have to train someone... I would fire you just for starting your first pass discharging off onto the sidewalk the way you did, NEVER do that much less come back on a strip from the opposite direction. Not to mention the way you turn, I can tell you're not very experienced. Proper way to mow that lot..> The first 2 passes are discharging INWARD with that fist past with your back wheel ON THE CURB as to not knock down any edges made by an edger. Then pick a striping direction out in one of your corners, start small NOT by running a first strip down the middle of the field. When turning, stop running all over the place, the mower deck should only be staying on course with a 3 point turn as to not tuff up the grass. I could do this all day with this video... do you know what happens to the grass when you come back on it from the opposite direction??? Like I said, the way you mow drives me nuts, I hope you gotten better this year.

@@georgia03a3 I mow a 22 acre Cemetery every Friday in 6 hours thanks to my machine being a hustler hyper-drive 72 inch 38HP. The Cemetery people told me they have never seen anybody mow this property as fast as I did. You should see my method of mowing this place. I called the video, running over dead people. ha

It clicks and won't start. Had this issue after 5 hrs. How do I test the safety switches and how many are there? Its gotta be a safety issue cause I can get power when jumping at solenoid.

My MZ has a Kawasaki Engine and is a lot quieter running. Mine is an older model so that model has some really good updates. I am on year 5 and it runs and mows as good as the day I purchased it. I added the mulching shoot and Gator Blades and it gets after it:P

NDIrishfan71 Good to hear that the Kawasaki is preferred by others as well as you. I am leaning toward purchasing a Magnum and would like to have the Kawasaki engine. I like the noise difference from the Kohler as well.

My dad has this exact mower, me and him are both tall people 6’1 not sure how to adjust them but the control arms need to be adjusted. When backing up and pulling both levers back to reverse you can’t completely pull them back without the control arms going into your stomach lol

I`m trying to find out how the beck spindles are made ,as in the spline and the belt pulleys hub .some mfgr`s just stamp the spline hole in the sheet metal pulley which is a very poor design and will fail .so what kind of hub does the pulley have ?

I've had mine almost a year. Try adjusting the belt tension. I couldn't believe it. So far I haven't been able to do it. It's impossibly difficult. This machine is so well designed otherwise, I was amazed at the poor tensioning design. At this point, I'm out of service until I can figure out a way to make this adjustment.

look in your owners manual it will show how to adjust belt tension, it is spring loaded.

I and five other people went and bought five Bad Boys lawn mowers and we ran them about 10 hours before they started breaking down each one had individual issues Springs broke pulley bearings went out one of them had a hydraulic pump go out so I can't really say that these are good lawn mower they're terrible

Got 16 hours on mine and it’s perfect. Changed oil after 10 hours and blew out air filter. I don’t know what people are doing to them to screw them up thou. I mow 2 acres with big hills and rough terrain and don’t have any issues.

I had a mz magnium and i was far from impressed had to replace the coils at about 150 hrs horrible setup on the hydro mounts had to reweld after they broke and it coated the lawn in thatch sold it with about 250 hrs on it havent looked back since

This guy's probably just a mower mechanic or something. if he cuts grass professionally I'll bet he's got about three clients his uncle his mom and his house. Makes me cringe to see him locking up that rear inside tire to do a zero turn on turf.
