This is one of the best horror shorts I've ever seen. Everything, from the design of the characters to the plot is just PERFECT. Mr Bobo looks terryfing. That and uncle saying " he feels like he has a mind of his own" makes you to expect this to be a simple cursed toy-based story,but ohan does it turn out to be much scarier. Another thing I would like to point out is that there are moments where you expect to be a jumpscare, but they just aren't there. Infact, how does a simple horror story work: First you get a set up that gets more and more uneasy, then it culminates into a jumpscare that scares you for a second or two, but what it also does is it brings away ( either partially or fully) the uneasy feeling you had while watching. In this case, however, the uneasyness doesn't go away. It stays with you for a while after watching. And that, in my opinion, is a mark of a true horror masterpiece. P.S. Oh wow, I didn't expect this comment to turn into an essay on how horror films work. Badically, what I wanted to say is " great video, dude. Very spooky"

And I like THAT especially. The design. He's not something like Huggy Wuggy who has a generic monster face (Irl he's advertised as the horror mascot so no wonder people buy it, but in the game he's supposed to be a normal toy. Who would buy that!?) This thing however is just a plush. I'm not exactly sure what it is, which is also the trademark of some old toys. The black empty eyes are scary but also common for stuffed animals. The scariest thing about the toy however is its size and long arms which create the effect of just barely resembling a shape of a living animal. I'm pretty sure he's supposed to be a monkey or an ape, hence the long limbs and name "Mr. Bobo". Imo he could be a robot, or Oliver really just had a nightmare. The latter is possible since the monkey didn't do diddly squat to him for the entire night. That is, unless its role isn't to harm others...

When the uncle said him and Oliver's dad use to play with Mr Bobo as kids, it made me realize there could be a generational trauma pattern going on. Like the reason the uncle is doing this could be because him and his brother were also put through the same "Punishments" as Oliver. If they misbehaved or did something wrong, like "hurt" Mr Bobo, they'd be locked in the basement and monitored through the camera until they learn how to act properly. I like how the dialogue is framed in a way to give several different impressions on how things could have gone, at least when I watched it. The main case for me is the idea that the two weren't actually Oliver's aunt and uncle. The narrator notes how Oliver seems to know where he's going (which gave me a sense of unease), how he hadn't seen his aunt and uncle for years and didn't know if they'd recognize him, and how the uncle only calls "Auntie Pat" by her name after Oliver already called her that name. I love how that was framed, making the actual reveal catch me even more off guard. Great work :)

They did a good job on the face of the uncle. They made it look exactly like the eternally bored stare some of those types have. Like Dylan Roof for example. They've no interest in the world, in art or beauty. Their entire world is about the 'dance' of taking down prey. There is absolutely nothing going on behind those eyes unless they find what they want: an extremely unbalanced power dynamic. And because they only have themselves as a reference they'd up and tell you "That's how the world works." because they think all people are secretly like them.

Alright guys I have some theories about this short film! But first I just want to say excellent work Mr. Friend tbh this competes with many other horror short claymation like films like the simpsons couch gags and the boy and the camera. Okay so here is my theory: So basically it mentions how Oliver just turned 8 and just started riding the bus. So what I think happened is that Oliver since he is so young probably entered the wrong house of kidnappers. You could also argue to connect this to Happy School saying maybe “Uncle Charles” worked at happy school and maybe would kidnap children for the school which is why there were a bunch of Oliver’s. But to basically continue the theory the 2 kidnappers basically played into the idea that they were his aunt and uncle and the entire Mr. Bobo thing was all something made up so they could just watch him and wait for the right time. Like maybe they tried to get Oliver at night but when he woke up that kind of ruined their first attempt. Another thing to support this is it mentions Oliver had not seen his aunt and uncle in a long time so he probably forgot what they looked like and just assumed these people were his aunt and uncle. But that is my theory it sounds pretty crappy and you could probably easily make the connections but it’s just something interesting I found.

Great twist! I legit thought it was leaning towards the supernatural, but it was grounded with the uncle being creepy.

It's pretty irresponsible of the parents to let their eight-year-old son ride a bus to visit his uncle and aunt.

4:28 "Oliver spent the day playing with his favorite toy, *while his aunt and uncle worked in the basement*" That doesn't sound suspicious at all.

A possible explanation or basically what happened: A young eight year old named Oliver takes a visit to his uncle and aunt after getting dropped off by a public bus, only he went to visit them alone. Once shown his room, Oliver first notices Mr.Bobo, a lanky life-size rat plushie. His uncle told him that he and his brother used to play with him thinking at times he had an actual mind. During night time, Oliver is tucked in bed, Mr. Bobo is missing from the same place he was sitting at, but goes to sleep saying he isn’t real. Mr. Bobo stalks him in his sleep, Oliver wakes up the next morning playing with his truck to notice Mr. Bobo on the drawers again. Oliver throws his toy truck at him but apologizes, stopping for a bit to see a glowing red light in the plushie rat’s beaded eye. He takes the eye off to reveal a camera, his uncle enters the room to see them and closes the door behind him. Soon, Oliver is chained by his hands on a wall, his shirt seemingly taken off, while Mr. Bobo stares at him on a chair with the toy truck on the floor.

After I finished this. I, for some reason, felt underwhelmed. It just didn’t give me the same eerie feeling as The Kid and The Camera. I closed the video out and went about my day. However, at night, I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. I then had a dream about it that scared the living hell out of me. Woke up in the middle of that dream and refused to open my eyes, afraid of seeing Mr. Bobo, because I was half a sleep. Thought about it more when I woke up in the morning and now, days later, I am back rewatching the video for a 2nd time. I guess it didn’t give me the same feeling as The Kid and The Camera, but it gave me a different feeling with the same effect. Good job 😭

I thought it would be that the actual aunt and uncle had moved away and no one knew yet, and these people weren’t really related to Oliver’s family. Then I thought Mr Bobo would be evil. It turned out the aunt and uncle were his actual relatives and unfortunately terrible people.
@johnathan59062 ай бұрын
I think if it ended when he closed the door, it would have been more impactful. Leaving it up to the imagination will always lead to a darker and more twisted outcome than you could ever come up with. Overall a really good short film.

News Report aftermath: News reporter (Heather Jones) : Little Oliver was suddenly put into the hospital after his parents founds bruises and cuff marks on his body. This was so sudden just after he got back from his aunt and uncle ‘who was currently suspects of this awful abuse’. *update handed to her* This just in. The aunt and uncle were taken for questioning what happened. The uncle claimed that Mr. Bobo hurt him after one misbehaved move. The father commented; “Mr. Bobo was a stuff animal he and I played as children. There is no way he could do that. He and I once thought he had a mind of his own.” The police looked around the house and they were stunned to see a basement looking like a dungeon. Needless to say this Mr. Bobo is nono. The uncle was transported to the local asylum after claiming Mr. Bobo did it 16 times. If you have some info about this, contact the police. This is Heather Jones. Stay tune for the local weather report.

This was incredible. I was going into this thinking. It was going to be another kid in the camera knock off or whatever it’s pronounced, and I was pleasantly surprised that it isn’t. The twist with Charles is heartbreaking because of the realism in it. Analog horror such as urban spook use the topic of being abducted and horrible things to them in a horrible way It’s just made for you not only did you blur out but you didn’t. Oh my God this kid got stabbed 185 times that’s what is scary You perfectly Handled it maturely The scary part is the realism and not the fact that it’s disturbing subject matter well done. I’m definitely gonna come back to theses

It took me 2 rewatches to realize that at the end Oliver wasn't just chained up, he was also shirtless and he was chained up facing the wall. At first I thought this was just the uncle being some sort of child kidnapper/murderer, it wasn't until I saw those other details that I realized he was doing other things while using Mr.Bobo to record it.

This is a video that leaves you with far more questions than answers in a good way. Were these two really Oliver’s aunt and uncle? Why wasn't he allowed to see them for four years? Did something bad happen the last time he saw them that Oliver doesn't remember? If so, why are his parents letting him back there on his own now? Does the grandpa have anything to do with this? So many questions and its a feat that it makes me curious instead of frustrated as some stories like these do. All in all, great video!
