Don I was going through your videos from 5-6 years ago and was amazed how helpful and still completely relevant and accurate they are. Just stopped by here to say thank you.

Great data Don! eBay has new rule ( very recent ) that buyer can cancel purchase prior to shipping no questions asked ( I guess binding contract is gone or not begun until shipping label created ?). So fast shipping a great move, which service as close to instant is always a good move.

For people with stores, this will get worse as we get towards Christmas, for stores with high volume sales that is. It doesn't really affect me; sales are always flat all over Christmas until February to April. Great advice as always. I miss those vintage ads at the end of every one of your shows Really nice to see you, Don. Charles in the UK

In my experience in general broke people and cheap people return stuff. I also sell 99% collectibles and my average sales price is around $140. 2 returns this year...both were $30 items.

I had a slew of unpaid items last year. It was horrible. Not only was it clothing but also CDs and DVDs. You're right about board games. Pain in the backside. I'm getting out of that business. I'm getting out of glass too. I know there's some profit in glass items but they're a horror to pack up securely and I had one that didn't make it last week and it set me back almost $75. No more.

I love accepting a best offer, then getting a cancel request 3 1/2 days later for "found better price". Thanks for wasting my time, dhead. Lol

You are so right. I have over 800 collectibles and a tiny [less than 5] selection of clothing that I have come across which are really special vintage pieces. I don't know why I even bother listing them at this point- last year I sold an extremely expensive hand beaded jacket to a lady about 2 weeks before Christmas. She kept it for about 3 weeks [!!] before returning it with the reason 'I changed my mind'. Obvs she'd worn it to holiday events and parties then used me like she was returning to Nordstroms. Had an almost identical situation another year where the return reason was 'covered in dog hair'. I don't have a pet and the item was spotlessly clean. She just wanted to make sure she got her full refund plus free return shipping. My other items are almost never returned unless the post office breaks something.

I track mine as well and clothing is without a doubt the category with the highest return rate. We include measurements from all angles but still would get returns marks as not as described.

Breakable items like glassware or porcelain. I pack very well. USPS handles these roughly no matter how many fragile stickers are put on it. And USPS is a nightmare to file claims. Yeah you will eventually win once you appeal their denial, but it's a lot of time and big hassle.

Yes, I had to do that a few months ago. IT was a victorla motor that went missing. Had to refund. Had to wait 45 days to file the claim and they sent me a check with no issue.

I hate selling clothes. Horrible. And last night. Had a guy buy 11 items on offers. eBay said he had to pay 1st. I said, “that’s ridiculous!” The shipping was more than the items and I had to go into 10 of the items to refund shipping. What a headache.

I started selling books over 26 years ago, then added many other items including collectibles. However on clothes I am very picky on selection and don't pick up much in that category. Books still are my best category selling over 20,000 of those which the majority were antiquarian and collectible. Postcards are probably second with other collectibles coming in after that but have not had too many returns in 26 years. Thanks for your content. Always enjoyable and informative.

I was a vintage jewelry seller for the most part, primarily costume. VERY low non-payment rate and a low return rate until the very end, because I was selling to collectors and people who wanted rare or unusual pieces. No really high-priced items either, since rare doesn't always mean high dollar. Renters tended to appear when looking for showy/gaudy pieces to wear a piece for a fancy party. They'd pay immediately, wear the piece, and then return it afterward within the window. Sometimes they'd invent a problem and return SNAD. Fortunately it was generally returned undamaged and the seller would only be out shipping...and the chance to sell it to a real buyer during peak season. (grouse) Clothing has a horrible return rate, and shoes are the worst of all. Obviously, a buyer can't try them on without buying; internet shoe sites rung into that all the time and bake returns into their prices. If possible, eBay sellers ought to do the same. (I only sold one or two pairs of shoes in 20 years, NIB and measured every way you can think of and a few you wouldn't.)

I have lots of vintage clothing and I'm going to only sell it on Etsy with no returns. Thanks for letting me know about that also my other stuff on eBay.

I completely agree with you. I sell mostly collectibles and a very small amount of clothing. My returns and unpaid items are near zero. If I have a return it will be clothing.

Ive only ever had clothing returned, usually because the buyer thinks they can fit into it, or just dont like them in general after trying them on. No biggie, wouldnt want someone to keep something they dont like anyways.

Wow, a problem which I have had happen very little. When they didn't pay after about three days I mssg said it's okay if you changed your mind, just say so, so I may relist. I don't think they could figure out how to cancel and ebay was not helping them. but within a week they cleared me to relist. That whole combined shipping thing though. I only do it if customer contacts before they buy. Conversation with offer/counters here is important to pick up on it as well. I will then make an entirely new listing with all things in it for them. Cannot figure out any other way. But I'm in my first year of this.

I have been changing my inventory for quite a few of those reasons but also, as I get older I want to sell smaller, lighter weight and things that are easier to store and ship. Once, I clear out certain items they will be disappearing from my store….

Maybe if ebay set it up so you could make an offer for the entire shopping cart that would make it easier to fix their combined shipping problem?

I tried clothing, wasn't for me. Hate having to make a ton of measurements, then having Buyer return it, claiming it didn't fit.

I finally gave selling a try on eBay only to have the buyer not complete the transaction after they had won the bid and was still charged the fee by eBay for selling it. I reached out to them about this over and over again with no response. That was a year ago. Too bad for them because I have a lot to sell, but I don’t trust them now.

with the new ebay rules you talked about next time, this should be history? they make an offer you accept but the product continues for sale until they pay?

If sellers are having issues with non payers, why not just click the button under preferences, that requires immediate payment. I clicked that on and have not missed a beat
@TheAuctionProfessor
@TheAuctionProfessor 2 ай бұрын
That wont fix the issue with the new change to counter offers. It does not force payment whenever a buyer counters any offer on the site. That also causes issues as stated in the video, because it makes it now impossible to combine orders when the buyer counters. The seller can not even see that they sold the item to a buyer in these cases.
