47 years ago, I lived in a Small town , 60 miles Southeast of Buffalo, NY I was a 3rd shift Maintenance Man at Fisher- Price Toys in Holland , NY. I rented A house in Rushford, NY and lived there With my Wife and Daughter. One Morning I got home from work and my wife left a note on the table from the Landlord that there was no Water. He owned the well that Supplied 7 Houses In Rushford with water.. He Worked for the New York Central Railroad and was Out of town a lot working the railroad. He relied on me to Take care of things while he was gone. Well this was a super cold February Morning, And I went to the Well House, much like yours only Larger. It was a Surface, Deep well Jet pump and the well was 86ft deep. I could tell by the smell The motor had Fried, so I took the pipes apart and there was no water in them , telling me the Foot valve Had gone south and the motor fried trying to re-prime itself. There was 8, 10ft lengths of 2 inch Galvanized iron Pipe that had to be pulled to get to the Foot valve. The land lord had rigged up a Come-a-Long setup Just for pulling the pipe. you had to pull it and remove each 10ft length until you got to the bottom. . Well Long story Short, I got a new Foot valve, And a Complete new 5hp Pump assembly and reassembled the whole thing . It took me until 2 in the Afternoon to finish But we had water again. Funny that those thing always semm to happen on a cold day in the Winter.

Our pump went out about 2 years ago and it had been in the ground for 28 years. Luckily the same pump was still available and we were able to purchase and have them install. Hopefully this one will last 28. It’s funny how no matter how large or small your farm is you see a lot of the same problems. I can definitely relate to your videos !!

I remember being at my grandparents dairy farm one summer when the pump quit. Grandad and I got it pulled out by hand, but nobody had parts in stock. So we got to haul water from the neighbors for 2 day for the house and to clean the dairy barn. Good times. Luckily for us, the cows stayed on pasture with good ponds, so we only had to haul for the calves.

To fix your chute problem. This is what we do with our hydraulic chute. Take two chains tie it around the chute and the chute run way and get it has tight as you can and it will catch itself before it even gets a chance to pull the hydraulic hose out.

I had several of the pressure switches replaced over a short period of time (the same lightweight one that you are using) and finally got pretty upset that they were having to be replaced so often. I called the well people when another one went bad and he said he was sorry but that is the way it is. I asked if there wasn't something they could do, they were replacing them at no cost to me and it seemed to be a waste and inconvenient for everyone. He said well, when he put the first one in it cost around fifty dollars and that is what he was replacing them with. Then he said there is one that costs just over $100 that he could put in but I would have to pay the difference. Well, that was a no brainer, I had him put in the better, heavier, switch and we haven't had a problem since. Apparently, they are some sort of special order but he did have one in stock. Amazing!

Cole, you are not paying attention, your Dad is giving you one of life's lessons. CLOSE THE GATE AFTER YOU OPENED IT. Yah you got to eat a little crow but your Dad is just trying to instill in you good working habits, like close the gate, turn off the water, don't drink the last beer when sitting with your boss at the end of the day. And my favourite one, no matter what your job is never, NEVER lick your fingers, unless your a baker then that's OK I guess. Brian as a wingman for his little brother did you ever take him to the circus again after that? That sir was a great tale Thank You.

Cole you don't want to use PVC pipe out there for those hoses ,it will start sagging when the sunlight hits it over time ,use oversized rigid pipe and reduce it down for a squeeze connector on the ends to keep it tight but have a little slack in the hoses...use rigid straps for the pipe and you won't have that problem with your hoses...

You need some time, Cole, to put casters under the pump? There's lots of hours before you rise in the morning. Dairy farmers know that, and get lots done before 9:00 AM. Yes, they are always tired, but you only need one morning for the caster job. lol My favorite saying: "Dairy farmers work 8 hour days. One before lunch .... and one after lunch." (I am the son of a dairy farmer.) 😶

Hi Guys 🙋🏻‍♂️ A good video of real farm life! Seems there’s always something to deal with! I use to vaccinate a lot of sows . Either in crates or as they came off the trailer. I started using a product that was called a rubber neck. You just unscrewed the piece on the end of the gun syringe that holds the needle and screwed this piece on and it had its own needle holder . There was like a rubber mount inside of it and it allowed the needle to move without bending the needle . It was so much better rarely did I break or bend needles after using them . This was in the 90s not sure if they are still around. I think the ones I used were made by Ideal .
