I have a 95 FLSTC and at 35000 miles the front piston came apart and destroyed the motor so I bought the parts and built a 127cid monster and stuck it in and man I have been so happy with it dynos at 150 hp and 155 tq and if you are relaxed when you twist the throttle it will leave without you I love it. The bike has 55000 miles on it now and it's still a screamer , since installing a Vance and Hines 2into1 pro pipe on it seems to run better also S&S super G with some mods done on it makes me want to ride it all the time 😊😊😊😊😊

My '06 had 21000 when I put a billet camplate & hyd. tensioners , plus a high vol. oil pump in it . Got .004 pin. runout. I added a dip stick that has a thermometerr on top to keep an eye on the oil temp, so far 220 is the hottest its got. As far as wear, the motor parts looked very good, when it is time to rebuild(if I'm still breathing), it's going to be from the bottom up complete.

If you are referring to the runout, actually, 0.005 is still an acceptable runout if it is a chain driven pinyon shaft, however, it would not pass muster for a gear drive shaft. My bike, a 2000 Springer has a runout of 0.005. Because of money issues, I decided it was not in the cards to replace the crank shaft. I don't like it, but it is what it is....

I’m not sure if it has been covered previously, but what should a proper warmup procedure consist of when we get a big bore kit done? Just let the bike idle for a minute or two and then be easy on the throttle for the first 5-10 minutes? Any other important practices?

How do you know if your Twin Cam is running 'hot'? 88s, 96s, 103s, 110s what do they usually run on the temp sensor? 230F? 240F? 250F? 260F? I can't seem to find anyone including Harley that'll give me a straight answer.

This heat can be customer related as well … I ride daily, and it is common for me to see traffic backed up a while and guys setting in traffic with it being 80-90 degrees on there Harley-Davidson. My oil never gets above 225 on a real hot day and typically runs at 205-210. Harleys setting in traffic lines in hot weather is a recipe for short lived motors and trouble.

Great stuff! One thing I did hear you say a couple of times and no disrespect to Michael black oil with the things wrong with this motor could it of been a bad tune not a cylinder pressure check? I keep on top of my oil and how things sound I bet this one spark knocked with the best gas, but is it safe to say if your oil is getting black way too soon you may have things going very bad in side a motor? Just a question?

I thought my '08 110 SE Dyna was bad @ .007" pinion run out after it'd been running way too rich and also the front exhaust broke at the header after being knocked off in an accident, causing it to sieze on both cylinders, running way too hot, only had 40K on it. Couldn't afford £6K full rebuild, (i live in UK) so only re- rung it, it really needed new cylinders/liners as .010" re-bore not enough, you could throw pistons in!! Ended up having to put new SE255's in, new lifters, (due to bad lifter previously/seperate occasion) but oil pump and cam plate were still within spec luckily. (fitted Fueling bypass valve/spring) Also got a Thundermax now, crankcase external breathers and finally got a S44 K&P Eng' Re-useable Billet oil filter ( larger than stock) and using 20W50 Semi Synthetic in motor, (help with blowby) i swear blind she's running better and significantly cooler!! Done about 4k miles now since top-end "Bodge" i'm amazed, must have done something right eh, but it ain't gonna do the usual expected 100,000, no way!! Love to stick an S&S in it!! I wish!! Very good channel and look forwards to seeing the 117" build!

The Harley is an art Form all to itself. All of it's parts need to be made to perfection. And it needs to be assembled by experts. That crankshaft was probably defective when the engine was assembled. And that loose pressure release should never have gotten out of the factory.
@frankbutaric3565

Where is the quality control on this art form? One should not need an expert for assembling the engine at the factory. Just follow the proper training for the job.

Really cool video of a great save. Can someone tell me why the MoCo does not weld their cranks? Seems a simple and inexpensive robot thing to do. Surely there must be some tangible reason not to.
@KevinBaxter
@KevinBaxter 3 жыл бұрын
Sure...the cranks are not balanced from the factory. Their assembly and machining processes are built around a certain range of operation and knowing its not balanced. If they welded them, they would then need to go back again, true, and balance. Too much expense i guess for a high production environment.

Hello from Germany. Three weeks ago i bought a 2007 Road King CVO with 7300 mi at my local harley dealership . The Bike is still in the shop and gets some modifications as a 18" Ape, Seat and a Set of pipes. I read in some german forums that the 110 CVOs had some issues with head gaskets and sometimes with the lifters. After watching this informative video I am a little bit worried, if it was the right decission bying this bike. The only thing that makes me feel a little bit relaxed is, that I bought it with two years warranty. Can anybody tell me, if all engines from 2007 have the in the video mentioned issues?
