Bad Drywall Patch Job Repair - Fix Bad Drywall

This job was done at an apartment complex in Dickinson, North Dakota.
A sub par or quick patch job was done in the ceiling.
I repaired it and smoothed it out.
This was completed in two days, given other jobs and more importantly, proper dry time between layers of mud and prior to sanding, texture and paint.

This is a nice video. I am a beginner at doing drywall work. Can you tell me why you shot texture? It appears to be a smooth ceiling.

It’s what’s called an orange peel texture, very smooth but still slightly textured. Easier to hide imperfections and potential blemishes. 👍🏼

Everything was great until,the texture part. I truly hate texture. All the work smoothing things out and you threw orange peel on. Smh. What imperfections were you hiding? I truly don’t get it. Maybe show us with and without? Our painters threw it up on bathroom ceilings that were smooth and just being painted. They didn’t consult us. Was so mad.

I would've cut it back past that hump and put in a new piece of rock then coated it with 5min hot mud. No sanding whatsoever and no risk of tearing the face paper.

Boy what the hell are you doing? Take the piece off and install new. Secure well with sink screws, use paper tape (holds stronger) using 20 minute mud. Wait until dried and just float the whole patch to prevent any bumps and match your texture at the end. All this sanding you're doing too much.

your dreaming james just to sand that is 1 hour ,tape and mud 1 hour, 2nd coat 1 hour ,3rd coat 1 hour ,texture 1 hour ,and if you use quick set you still have to wait for mud to dry so whole day job plus material and truck that you have to bring all material in looking at 800-1000 patch or not worth it for tradesman not gonna work for 20 bucks an hour and break your back fuck that

First of all a pro doesnt have to sand if you are going to texture. Second you can use hot mud and texture with hot mud and prime and paint in half a day! How do l know this? l do it almost every day.Thats a three hundred dollar repair for me.

@@nathanneufeld9724 Yes , no insurance here, l used to carry it but no one ever asks for it for the last thirtyfive years l have been self employed. Here in Texas we have five minute mud. A bed coat then skim it tight. and do a knockdown texture. Can be done on a repair similar to yours in a hour. Material is less than twenty dollars. All my jobs are within a ten mile radius. Average about eighty dollars per hr on my estimates. When l was younger l made several trips to allow drying time. Not any more since l discovered five minute and twenty minute mud.
