Sad to hear of the experience you had...yes.. sometimes it's hard to find out all the details and problems in the housing area and house itself. Often the high, final cleaning charge and repairs that needed would be charged to the tenant as well. In some places I had stayed the lease simply states any cleaning company and a receipt needed to be submitted but others may state that it should be from a particular cleaning company and usually this is nearly double the normal price. In my view its often better to get a lease from a smaller real estate company as they are more careful to keep their tenant and renewal of leases...well some do like to get new tenants..and sometimes its because of existing tenants asking for vacant properties for their friends etc...so maybe the people below would want take over this place you are leaving..anyway, Hope the new place u move to is much better. Always save about 5 percent of the rental for termination of lease charges.. and always look for shorter leases that can be renewed. So, Best Wishes...don't worry ..sometimes it's alright to spend some more moment to get a good place that gives much appreciated peace and quiet..its always for the better...just tell yourself that it's a blessing to escape from fat dreadful experiences. Also certainly it is a blessing to know newer places and people...to get good neighbours...cheers

The ceiling is wooden (like old Indian villa houses). So if someone upstairs is running around, the downstairs can hear. 2. Smell from Indian cooking will stick to the walls, carpet, sofa and everything else, since the ventilation is not adequate (due to cold weather design), especially fenugreek The only way to get rid is to do a "steam vacuum" immediately after cooking. 3. Stain caused by Indian spices on the (wooden and laminate) kitchen cabinet is hard to remove.

I live in Ottawa, Canada. We too had similar experiences. It was hell. The fact is local people doesn't like our food smell. We were living in the basement. Landlord in the first floor. They restricted us for cooking. Every meal they started complaining.I was about to register a complaint at LTB. Finally, got an apartment in the highrise building. Now no issues. Very hard to deal with these problems. Any way, you guys are moving. Good luck for your new house.

Identical experience in the past and fairly common because apartments in USA are very poor in sound insulation and some neighbors are crazy. Couples with small kids better choose townhouse or the lowest floor. Bad neighbors are all over the world.

This happened to me in New Jersey when my son was around 1 year old and started crawling fast we heard knock knock for 2 days. Third day I went to the tenant (a young couple with no kids) who lived exactly under my floor and explained them directly. Nearly 1 month no knock knock. Then again they started, I thought this is the perfect time to directly go to the manager and explain this situation to either move me to a ground floor or just give a notice to other the family. Not sure, what happened within a weeks time the knock knock tenant moved out. In America, you need to speak up. My suggestion to you, find a home for rent instead of apt near Bothell or Mill Creek. There will be commute that you can handle with public transit. You will be paying the same rent with no living restrictions and enjoy the freedom.

Everyone with kids face this problem here... We always take ground floor to avoid this problem.... We also need to think from other side... It's a pain and disturbance both way due to nature of suburb housings....adding to it also playing loud music and woofer from above floor disturbs.... Even people living below us undergoes pain....

Negotiate the cleaning and other charges before hand. Don't leave without knowing the exact amount. Same experience we had in LA 2 years back, as we're bachelors we fought with leasing office and moved the problematic lady to some other flat. Move on and thoroughly check all these issues in new apartment. All The Best.

It is frustrating. Been through this myself. But this is not specific to your apartment community unfortunately. It is the same all over where ever you go. Options are to choose 1st floor or check if you have a friend in the floor below if you take the apartment above.

We do experience similar attitude from leasing office. Ask them what will be cleaning charge before you leave. We did a mistake when they said will calculate and send you check. They have charged for changing carpet for entire home, which we are damn sure they wouldn't have replaced it.

Hi: You are experiencing the other side of America! You do sometimes end up with neighbors from hell. Direct confrontation with such people is never a good idea but you can definitely call the local Police and report the neighbors for creating a nuisance. As for cleaning charges etc., after vacating your apartment, have proof of the state you left the apartment. If there are any egregious charges there, you can always dispute those. The US is a very litigious country and sometimes, just the threat of hiring a lawyer works wonders. Hope you get out of the lease with minimum monetary loss to yourselves. Please do your due diligence wherever you are thinking of renting next. There is a ton of information out there these days if only you look for it.

Hi Nice videos Yes All apartments have this same problem We have experienced so many… Once you choose apt make sure you book a ground floor… Thing is people work all day and come for home just to sleep.. Though we keep talking or giving any complaints-it’s really tough for any measure as it’s their rule and practice here.. Don’t take it personally… Offcourse kids can’t resist their activities with all this ongoing pandemic With weather conditions we can’t take them out /park… If you’re financially comfortable better rent a town house .. As you said yes it’s better to ignore and get moved to another peaceful place…. Tc Stay safe

I had similar experience living in Central London. I too lived in an apartment and when I switch on my table fan at night, the neighbour downstairs started knocking the door at 1 am in the morning. My other room mate can't hear but I'm not sure how she can hear a fan sound. She told me if it's that hot open the window and sleep and not use the fan. It's ridiculous. She did this many times and even threatended she would complain and talked in a unpolished way. Finally, after a month we vacated the place not out of fear but out of frustation.

In Australia also most suburban houses are made of wooden floors, Walls etc. But they are independent houses and not of Apartment type. Think of our own country, and imagine what happens when we complain of noises our neighbors make in a middle class locality!

Don’t worry …. Just move out. You should have called police if they were harassing you. That would have put some pressure on those people not to do it. Only another American neighbor would teach the second floor people good lesson retaliating the American way. They know Asians are soft and follow rules. Good luck with your next move.

Amma, we are also living in a ground floor condo in Bellevue. After we have complained that the intermittent noise from the above flat, the association immediately shots letter to the owner of the flat. The noise ceases to some extent but not disturbing us. We learnt that a small girl is walking with rubbing of the floor, throwing some thing on the floor etc.. The owner assured that he will lay noise absorbing floor/ treatment once the tenent vacats. Any way your move seems to be logical and good luck with your new flat/house environment.

I dont know why i got this video suggestion..in any case. first, while vacating and handing over the keys take pics of ur home situation and share the same with leasing office....document every communication with leasing office (registered mail is recommended).. try to clean as much as possible...know ur related state policies up front..including up to the level of court proceedings..in most cases minimal wear is allowed... but make sure u dont have loose dust..in shelves.. Second, there is nothing like that u can not speak with your neighbor etc.. starting with a friendly gesture.. makes things easy... but if things are not working.. u can always fight back.. dont hesitate to call the cops.. i prefer to call first.. local police.. and complain. not the 911.... .Finally , about leasing, lease is something u are signing to abide..it has an upper hand than your experiences in court.. if u have to break it.. know your state rule and work with leasing office accordingly..again document all communications happening with leasing office.. if no response.. escalate to talk to senior person..in office.. etc.. choose your words in communication carefully.. after all the laws are for our protection..use it...be strong.. good luck with your move

All apartments have same problem. Even though you choose lower level apartment still you’re going to have problems. You hear noises from upstair. Look for town home or duplex if you’re able to afford.So no one live above you or below you. Good Luck!
