Use a plastic fork, rest it on a roller rag and pop of the needle. Remove the front black screws to disconnect the gauge from the IP face. Untangle the enamel covered wire and cut to length. Using a razor/exacto knife, scrape the enamel off and pre-tin and shape it fit connector. Cut the long screw by 3-4 threads unless one is shorter. Use a spring from an ink pen to make connection to the printed circuit. These gauges are attached using an air powered screw driver when new. One screw is marked with yellow paint and shorter. This is what I found works on many imports. ASE Master Tech since 1978 - Retired

You are exactly right. In my instance someone must have used a 1/2" drive gun to drive in the screws. One on the temp gauge and one on the fuel gauge were spinning resulting in both gauges pegging out high anytime the key is on. Mine's an SI so I chose to repair it vs throwing a junk yard used gauge in. Careful soldering and it's fixed.

Wow I dont know why people tighten things like the so hard... but I'm so glad you are able to fix it great job.

Fortunately there was enough of a pigtail coming off the coils to solder to.

Bro, thank you, finally a video that LITERALLY shows where the grounds are breaking. Great video, very informative, i pulled it apart and clearly see 2 screws that were spinning indeed broke the ground. Ill see if i can re attach and call it good. Did you fix your wires?
@ElvinBryant4 жыл бұрын
Im glad it was informative to someone which means i didn't waste my time to make the video... i did fix it but then my brother-in-law send me a SI cluster.

Hi dude, great and informative video, so, if the needle moved with the screwdriver, it means the whole temp gauge assembly is good?
@ElvinBryant2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. but the screwdriver was just something I was messing with it dosn't mean it's good or bad.
