After reinstalling my third fuel/temp gauge setup and them all eventually blowing up in a cloud of foul smelling smoke i have just installed an aftermarket one in the factory location, i now have oil pressure/temp/fuel/and battery voltage, pretty stoked with the finished product and it only cost $50

Sound like you installed cheap China capacitors that explode. The factory caps are Panasonic from Japan.
