The trick with these is to run them through a resonant high-pass filter to boost the bass drum, I used to do it on a Yamaha CS-15 and it'll get you that big booming 808 sound without any problem. The snare and hats are serviceable as is and the claps are The Best Claps Ever anyway. Liked mine far more than the 606 I had even if it didn't have knobs for mixing.

I am an even crazier nerd. I been collecting rolands since I was 14.. I don't regret it. The DR-110 reminds me more of the TR-505 than it does the TR-606 and I can say, I actually own both of them. The DR-101 looks very similar to the TR-505, just quite smaller for some odd reason. Same sort of LCD screen, button layout and so forth. The thing about the TR-505 is that it is Digital and not Analog, and so many too heavily modified them but mine is pure original and pristine. All I can say is that the TR-505 is an iconic drummachine in of itself, and let there be cowbells.

Never understood the urge to get it modded. The thing is beautiful in it's virgin 1983 soft-cased state. Seeing it desecrated with monstrous external boxes, protruding wires and scrap-made enclosures feels like watching a 1999 Virus movie. Please, people, have some mercy on this one, especially when the rd-06 is like $150
@voltijuice85762 жыл бұрын
I can explain that! I only bother with drum machines where I can play the drum sound synthesis live, which is why I'd always used 110s that I'd modified. It's an electro monster, and being able to (for instance) adjust the pitch of the snare and decay of the hats was a huge part of its usefulness. Otherwise I'd have needed a full analog "drum brain" like Simmons with a separate sequencer and neither were easily obtainable. Having this functionality portable and battery-powered was a game changer. I actually came full-circle - modifying so much of the DR-110 that it eventually became easier and cheaper for me to just build a new drum machine from scratch. When I'm making beats on a bus and able to edit the analog drum sounds on my nearly 40yo machine, I never wish that it was pristine and on display somewhere. More than enough fun and useful gear is already hoarded by precious collectors.
@AudioPilz2 жыл бұрын

But plain old Boss effects pedals are still solid choices in a sea of hit-or-miss boutique pedals sporting fancy paint jobs. @@RCAvhstape THIS. I've gradually over the years worked my way thru a pedalboard full of Boss stompboxes, replaced 'em all with a GT-8, added a GP-10, and finally ditched the GP-10 for an SY-1000. The band I was in circa 1995 used a DR-110 on a gothic rock track. We originally used my thunderous sounding Sequential Tom, but that broke down just before the session so I had to resort to the little Boss. Fair to say the lack of spearate outputs hampered processing the drums, as you can hear on the resulting demo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGa2eax-e8elnJo With hindsight we should have double tracked it, EQ'ed one track to get more bottom end and soaked the other one in some reverb.

Kinda Offtopic: Please get an IK Multimedia UNO Pro on the show as a follow up to the original UNO Synth! I reaaaally wanna see, what you can coax out of this synth! I guess, you'll find enough hate on the desktop version to justify bringing it on. 😅 I was hesitant on getting the UNO Pro, cause of all the flaws the original UNO had... Like so many, i guess... But almost all of those issues got ironed out and the UNO Pro is just an amazing synth. Especially the Desktop version gives you so damn much bang for your buck. I kinda regret not getting it sooner. I got mine for a while now and it effing blows me away! I get that the matrix style of controls isn't everybodys favorite, but it's not that bad either and dealing with that is totally worth it. So freaking fat and "mastodonic" it may rival the boutique SE-02. In terms of features it certainly blows the SE-02 and other similarly priced mono synths completely out of the water.

I love my TR-06 because it adds the clap and built in distortion (and delay and reverb), adds TR909 and 808 kicks and snares and some variations to the toms. It really is the ultimate 606/110 plus mods in an “official” package.

Yeah, that one is still missing on my list!

When I got my TR-06, I plugged it into my speakers and had a jam and my gf was in the other room and thought I was listening to an album :) Top piece.

My second drum machine after my Synsonics...man, I loved that little box! But I happily replaced it with a Drumulator. Ah...good times! Thanks for the memories!
