It's incredible how pricey these things can get nowadays... Few years back it was common to find them for under a hundred euros on ebay... (got mine for 50, mint in box in 2010). The looper is endless fun, but as said in this video, you need quite a lot of practice to kinda fully master the whole unit (looper/fx/synth/drums/sequencer) and it's not really worth the effort since the looper + FX are the best part of it. Endless layered cruchy sonic fun garanteed (it's lo-Fi but really, really addictively good!). Paradoxally, it's one of those units that one can have fun with after just a few seconds. I always thought that Korg should issue some Volca FX/looper using the same interface, it would fit so well in the series. I cherish this thing, plus it looks like Kitt from the Knight Rider TV series, so if you find one, then give it a go ! You may not regret it !

The "303" emulation makes my ears bleed, and no-joke made me jump and cringe when the video started. Somehow you managed to coax a produced track out of it that didn't need a roll of TP, and for that I salute you. Like the other MC says, "can't touch this". Owned an mc-09 for awhile now and when i heard the tb-03 i thought roland had repackaged the 09. The mc09 also has a vintage mode which limits the synth engine to just the knobs or 303 style. Sadly the accent only affects the note or step volume not the filter section. It does have a lot of different modelled sounds to use and edit. None of which were demonstrated. The 09 is a weird little guy. You will definitely need the manual.

Back in the days this was the first electronic instrument that I bought. I was 17 or so and had absolutely no money, but I wanted to produce Techno and I wanted to use hardware. I read the specifications of this thing and thought "oh it is ticking all the boxes, it has everything thats needed to produce a track for an affordable price". So I saved up money and bought it. But even back then, when I had no real knowledge about music production, it did not take me long to understand that the unit is more or less useless. You can not tweek the preset sounds and the sequencer is also very limited. And the looping function is also not really useful, if you actually want to produce real music. The good thing about the unit is the oldschool sound. The presets are the typical run of the mill 90s Techno sounds and they were already outdates when the thing was released. But I just love these sounds and I still do. For about a month or so I had fun to play around with this groovebox. Yes, the Acid-Synth sounds powerful, also the filter and generally if you love this style of oldschool sounds, it makes a very good impression at the first glance. The signal that comes out of the box is also quite phat. It is fun to play with it for a while. But soon you will realise that you can actually only play presets. So I sold the unit after only one month. So, would I love to have this groovebox in my hands and to play around with it fulfiled with nostalgia? Yes! But the unit costs more today, than when it was new. I would not buy it for 300 bucks, because soon it will only sit on the shelf and collect dust. I think it is more like a toy and not a real musical instrument.
