It's great to hear that there's a cheaper model now! I'm still glad that I got the Pro though since the 480i features lost with the CE (as shown in that fighting game) would be a deal breaker for me at this point, however. But it's great that Mike's making more affordable options so more people can get into the 4K Scaling scene!

It's FANTASTIC that you pointed out the things that the CE won't be able to offer that the Pro does. I must say though..... OK full disclosure, I'm sort of the "lay person" when it comes to this video signal/upscaling sorcery, so after hearing all of the things the CE won't do, I was left hoping to get a showcase of all of the things that it DOES do (including demonstrations) that makes these 4k products so awesome to begin with. It's like.... being a n00b and hearing all the things CE don't, I cannot fathom for the life of me what Pro AND CE actually do! I might be on the fringe on this point, so no worries if so. I'm going to go re-watch some 4k Pro vids and keep watching this here channel. Good vids, thank you! :)

Nice. Seems like the true difference is the Pro still had plenty of headroom in the FPGA while the CE is (or close to) maxing out its smaller FPGA. @rfmerrill16 күн бұрын
The 4k CE is at least as good as the RT5X, and as someone who plays PS2, the RT5X is more than good enough. It's not perfect, but it avoids looking really ugly while also not causing flicker or image retention like bob deinterlacing does.

@Azure_Brian - If you have the budget, the 4K Pro will do a better job than the CE. The whole point of the deinterlacing comparison was to demonstrate that the CE is still great, it's just not as good as the Pro. So if you'd like to save some money, the 5x or CE are both excellent choices.

I have the 5x and I was thinking of saving for the 4K but the CE being a thing it will be cheaper for me to save for and I still have that sweet sweet VGA in and HDMI in.

LOL, hey that was a GREAT scaler for it's time!!
@CyannePractice8 күн бұрын
I would like to see a video on the OSSC Pro, as it is the scaler that I'm planning to get.
@RetroRGB8 күн бұрын
I’m looking forward to doing a deep-dive on that someday. I did a livestream with the creator (just search this channel for it) going over the basics, but it could be better.

Yeah I'd love an in-depth overview! If you can, please look into the "Reverse LPF" feature. It can make an unmodded 2-chip SNES look really clear, and it's a big draw for me.

I have a 50" Panasonic plasma that I do all my Retro gaming on. I recently got a retrotink 5x pro to use with my Sega Saturn/Dreamcast and OG Xbox and PS2. I have to say that I've barely noticed a difference in image quality (I don't like scan lines normally) and I can't say I've noticed much of a difference in lag or response time. Are plasmas better than other flat panels with response time? Thanks for your coverage of this stuff. I absolutely love your channel!
@RetroRGB16 күн бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Plasma's are incredible displays and pairing it with a TINK 5x is an excellent combo. The difference isn't as big as with an LCD panel, but you're definitely reducing the lag and getting better image processing...especially with the Saturn. You definitely do NOT need a CE or Pro with a Plasma though, so you made the right choice with the 5x.

how is the line doubling / 4x / etc. for the wii? will you post videos showing the ps2, 3, GC, Wii etc? mostly interested on how added lines would help these types of systems. Thanks :)

6:24 Does this mean the 4k CE has the issue the Retrotink 2x has where the changing resolutions during PS2 games (like exiting the title menu) causes momentary signal dropouts? Also, ignoring the price, is the 4k CE a better buy than a 5x? I’d be using it for PS2 and Gamecube games on a 4k tv.
@RetroRGB10 күн бұрын
The 5x, CE and Pro all ship with “triple buffer” mode as default, which means no resolution dropouts at all. As for which is better, you’d have to weight price and features to see what’s best for you.

Will there be a 4k CE vs 5x comparison video before the CE releases? I’m torn between the two. My main concern is the deinterlacing performance between the two. Is the CE straight up better in that area or does the 5x have something that the CE doesn’t?
@DemLep17 күн бұрын
With the 4K CE being closer in price to the 5x I'm curious on how they compare other than resolution.

I was all onboard but there are two concerns which I hope Mike is able to address that are keeping me from getting the CE version. When I am ready to purchase one of these whatever firmware is out at the time is what I will base my decision on. I am an arcade enthusiast. The non-rotation feature kills the CE for me as I am huge shmup fan! My FM Towns Marty runs S-Video out, and my PSP runs Component out still. The less feature rich CE for these two outputs isn't a deal breaker like the above concern but still something to take into consideration. The lack of the rest of the mentioned features are of no consequence to me. Props to Mike for releasing this budget friendly device!

Scale 'er? Hell I barely know 'er! (I have a 5X Pro I'm gonna stick with for the foreseeable future) Edit: If I had a PS2 I'd probably want the better deinterlacing, but I'm a Sega guy and my Dreamcast's 480p output looks great.
