Even if they wrote him as the irredeemable shit he is, if they'd developed him enough where he still felt like a real person, he'd still be sympathetic, but he had to be bland for shitty people to relate to him. Giving him any character beyond "Asshole Avatar" would have made it harder for some shitfuckers watching the movie to relate to him.

As someone with Aspergers Syndrome, I mostly kept to myself at school, so I never really identified with the whole "wanting to be popular at school" thing, but I get that it's a common trope in young adult fiction and for good reason. When we're young, the movies, books and music we consume and the friends we make inform the people we become, which is why the morals of films like this are not just bad they're dangerous.

Notes on this episode: this episode was produced in 2013, during a period where I was really going overboard with emoting in my voice. This was due to various comments claiming that I was too monotone and that I wasn't really acting in these episodes. I'm not a fan of the videos produced in this year, especially since they strained my voice badly, hence why I decided to pare back to my more natural tone, and if I had the time, I'd re-record the voiceovers. I decided to reupload this as it tied with Office Christmas Party and it's a popular episode. So if you're not a fan of my voice work in this episode, I completely understand why, and know that not all of my videos are like this.

Surely most parents would be selfless enough to put their son's birthday a head of their anniversary, at least when he's young? Also in the real world (not movies and 80s sitcoms) most people don't threat over an anniversary unless it ends in a 0. I think mine go out to a posh restaurant (without me or my sister) and that's it, if they even bother at all. Hell they once where on a plane BACK HOME on for their 20th anniversary, and it didn't bother them to much.

You know what would have made this a better movie? If this was made into a drama/horror movie. It could take some inspiration from some of the imitation parties that started because of movies like this and make everything go horribly wrong. Not “comedically” horribly wrong, but “people getting killed, possible police brutality, and lives getting destroyed” horribly wrong. To top it off, the main character could notice that other people are trying to emulate what happened and calling him a hero, when he just wants to be left alone and try to salvage whatever is left of his broken life.

Literally just watched this movie not long ago with two of my friends and it was a hell of an experience. To me, it genuinely felt more like a tragedy than a comedy because all I felt throughout the movie was an underlying sense of dread. I kept hoping things wouldn't get worse, yet they did. Doesn't help that it has the lighting of a horror movie as well. My one friend seems to like it just because it's a fucking insane party, so I asked my other friend what he thought, asking him if I sounded like a lunatic for calling this comedy film a psychological horror/tragedy, (not to say there aren't parts I wouldn't call funny). Turns out, I wasn't alone in that interpretation. Now I can't tell if this movie is a shitty cash grab or an accidental masterpiece of commentary on audience perception. Although, the more uplifting finale helped get rid of the movie's remaining, darker tones.

It's characters are despicably unlikable but the movie has absolutely zero self awareness of that fact. @@sowceitup5547The movie doesn't know WHAT it wants to be! It's like that terrible crapshow "Cuties" where it CLAIMS to be a deconstruction, but then looking at the fact "idiots copied ". Seriously believe the writer looks back at this movie as a shame even if it made it's money back twice over! If it was a deconstruction, Thomas would have never been called "A loser" by his father and the movie would end with Thomas getting the third degree (like Ferris Bueller when after we know what Cameron's dad is like, "we know a murder happened that night with Cameron as a the victim" after his dad found out what happened to his car!) and Costas not even getting that "interview" at the end (which felt like it was referencing what happened with "the IRL person this movie was based around" which knowing this happened in Australia and on a LESSER scale, really means the writer was trying TOO HARD for it to make sense in the USA on a BIGGER scale! Trying to outdo Super Bad and failing!) When you deconstruct, the only way a GOOD ENDING can come about is if it makes sense to the deconstruction! If you "deconstruct HARD" like this movie, their is not HAPPY ENDING for the main characters! Frankly a DOWNER ending for all involved, not even "Bittersweet!" Feels like the Deconstruction was a MYTH made to try and say this movie was trying to "say something" when it really wasn't!

How *EXACTLY* was *this* supposed to be a 17th birthday bonanza/bash for only one high-school kid?!? This isn't a birthday party-it's a fricking drug-alcohol-and-sex-fuelled rager with the intention of all them partygoers acting as if it's the night before (or,more realistically AFTER) either heading into an apocalyptic,end-of-all days battle, celebrating the country's/society's end (noting my mention of the aforementioned apocalyptic reference from before) and/or possibly God-knows-what in that order and yet, clearly everybody is going *nucking futz* about it without no clear reference, mention or intention of regret anywhere, goddammit! Is that really how parties like that go,huh..? Unbelievable.. Also, yeah I agree-That little piece of clarified donkey spit referred to as the child named Costa (okay, although what kinda parent whom would name their child/kid that is beyond me,honestly)..ugh,such a twatwaffle-he is,yes..? Thomas-kid should've just gotten some booze, cake,a couple of friends/hot chicks (girls),some candy-and some fricking common sense,no less-and then snuck it into a,what-a PG-13 and/or an R-rated movie instead,huh..? And then later go home, get drunk, eat cake and maybe trash the house a little bit before sobering up,cleaning up the house and going home, enough said-and again also,I'd go and tell Costa to go and suck it and later leave him in the dust-enough said again,so-eh..?! After seeing this video for the second time, I came up with a big time complaint that you missed: You know that “Put down the camera and help, asshole” trope in found footage movies? By the time T-Rick brings with him a flamethrower and starts using it on people’s houses indiscriminately, that trope goes from that to “Put down the camera and run your ass away, Dax!”

If the ones partying so hard to the point of literally wrecking the house and doing all kinds of illegal crap were the gremlins, I'd be laughing instead of feeling pissed and depressed (the found footage style isn't helping either because it makes it seem like an actual event, ignoring all the errors that the filmmakers made). I just had this image in my head of gremlins randomly showing up at the party to kill everyone and destroy the house _mother!_ style, complete with claustrophobic POV shots when it's inside the house (but minus all the figurative and literal nightmare fuel and seriousness). Maybe some gremlins could steal some of the cameras.

A big problem I have with his movie is that Costa has no redeeming moments with his character. For example, in the American Pie movies while Stifler was obnoxious but had heart such as in American Wedding when he ruined the flowers for the wedding and decided to get new ones showing how bad he felt and even going out with Michelle’s sister showing he can change for someone he likes, here Costa doesn’t have any of that and I have trouble liking his character

Deaf by Hip-Hop I just wasn't interested at first. I thought it was going to be another stupid, mean-spirited, R-rated comedy. I had no idea it had _that_ level of maturity put into it, and going by this video, it doesn't seem to have one of those endings where they ruin a sweet moment by ending on a stupid joke of "hurr durr, the characters learned absolutely nothing," like American Pie (I haven't seen that movie, nor do I really plan to, but I only knew about that ending from Doug Walker's video "Top 10 movies I hate but everyone else loves." Even as a kid, those kinds of endings pissed me off).

So I think we can all agree that Costa is an absolutely detestable character, thinner than the paper that the script was written on. But I think Oliver Cooper's performance was actually pretty good. I have no idea why they wouldn't make him 18 instead of 17, I believe the AOC in the state it takes place in is 16, but still why not play it safe and make them 18? It makes the scenes of him "becoming a man" and the "unlimited HS p**sy" and the other comments even creepier Also I blame this movie for helping the stereotype that everyone in my generation are the most obnoxious people in existence. And on a sidenote, theres 24 hours in a day, so after the hours boning, it doesn't matter how attractive your "partner" is, if they've no personality or you don't have any chemistry, that relationship is gonna fail and fail hard, most media seems to forget that when they focus on "just find an attractive person!" But atleast we know Costa ruined his life too because he's gonna be paying multiple child supports his entire life according to the credits (and probably multiple STD's too) And PS Costca giving his supposed "friend" X AND HARD LIQUOR TO WASH IT DOWN/CHASE, that easily could of went so bad it could be its own PSA The ironic thing is the father in this film is realistic, in that it'd be no suprise they raised someone that would end up like that, I'm guessing Costca had a similiar father figure
