A third person has gone overboard on another cruise ship. Disney cruise line announces it will have have 13 ships in it's fleet after ordering new ships. Carnival Vista has engine problems again. Royal caribbean cancels glacier excursions due to unsafe conditions.

I have Friends who drove to get on Carnival Vista, were unpacking when they got this message. They got off and came back to GA. They had no interest in another Bahamas trip. I guess if you've never been that's fine but if you planned Aruba and Curacao, the Bahamas is not even a good consolation prize. I have other friends who stayed on board, they cruise often and live in FL so no big deal to them. Hope they get the problem fixed!

Yes, I do think that Carnival waited until the last minute. I live in Canada and I would be furious if I received this news the day of the cruise as we travel one day prior. I would be out the cost of travel / hotel expenses. Poor treatment by Carnival!!!

Aruba removed from the itinerary and Nassau as the replacement? That would have been a definite cancellation call for me. That's apples vs passion fruit, not even oranges. Absolutely no comparison!

It is hard not to believe that Carnival purposely waited until the last possible minute to announce these itinerary changes. They did not want people to cancel. As far as a cruise to bot princess Cay and Half Moon Cay, I would love to be on that ship! Although I cannot imagine those islands not having other ships already booked so it might be a bit crowded and there happens to be a tropical storm heading there at the moment.

Of course they did. No one is gonna turn around and go home once they’re there. They knew if they did it before hand, they would be doing a lot more full refunds. Really not sure why we’re even questioning it anymore. There is plenty of evidence, in the recent past, of them doing exactly that.

Just like the airlines, I am wondering if cruise ship lines should be subject to more government regulation regarding these changes of itineraries. Substituting Aruba for Bahamain ports is a big step down. Also their practice of "overbooking" ships and passengers being bumped off due to sailing completely full. It is great that cruising is doing so well, but when the companies start playing fast and loose with passengers money and itineraries, then that needs to be addressed.

You can tell cruising is in a bubble when all of these cruise lines rush in to build bigger ships. IDK how these cruise lines think they can all build another 4-8 ships EACH and then keep the beds mostly filled 365 days a year.

The Dream wouldn't have to be the rescue vessel. There may have been a ship closer by the time it was discovered the passenger was missing or more equipped response vessels may have been dispatched.

When I went on an Alaskan cruise a few years ago, we couldn’t see the glacier either due to floating ice but I witnessed the greatest K turn I’ve ever seen even by cars!

Yes, they waited way too long to tell everybody...they came into port late Saturday morning and I watched on the web cam leave at 9:00 pm. My niece is on that cruise and it looks like they are having a good time but I would not want to be on that ship now with a Hurricane in the Caribbean and with engine problems..I would have taken the refund...that ship should have never left port..

The Vista propulsion issue is...well an issue. I know that with cruising, a fly could fart in Guam and change your itinerary. But there is a huge disparity between a Southern Caribbean cruise and a cruise to the bahamas, and these Asipods are a known issue that I feel Carnival is playing Russian Roulette with the maintenance on them for the sake of saving money. Which I understand, but at the same time, schedule the maintenance with a change in the itinerary ahead of time. So if the bearing that fail in the pods have to be changed out ever 3 months, which would absolutely suck, then schedule a Bahamas itinerary every three months and let the ship draw the crowd. Goodness this is quite an interesting topic all on its own that I would love to get a group together to talk about with an engineer for Carnival to do a real deep dive into it. Of course there would have to be NDA's involved because they wouldn't be able to talk freely otherwise.

Yes, I think. Carnival waited too long to notify guests of the itinerary change. If it were me scheduled for that cruise,I would not have minded and would take advantage of the $400 OBC😊. Other people may have preferred other options though.

That's bad from Carnival, the ship is either fit for service or broken and if its broken then it should be taken out of service abd repaired ASAP. This is just an example of the money before care attitude ythat they are showing to their customers, obviously it was having issues earlier and they chose to continue instead doing the right thing. I wonder what will happen to the vessel if it encounters another engine/propulsion issue en route especially considering the weather season.

We were on vista in July for the Aruba itinerary and the propulsion was just fine. It’s possible they thought they had a minor issue that became something bigger.

Carnival cancelled 18th. October 2024 cruise to New Caledonia least weekdue to civil unrest in Noumea, offered full refund to our party of 20 passengers but people have already submitted leave to employers by this time, why could they not offer full refund weeks ago, we booked cruise 2023 about 12 months ago before rioting in Noumea broke out. Smells of “too late to change plans, get you in the casino or drinks station”. Pretty ordinary company, better with RCI.

Hi Don try not to dwell on all these people going overboard, it ridiculous how many people are not suited for been on cruise ships ,yes it is sad but these people I think they had it planned before they set sail,it would be a good idea for staff to evaluate for mental illness,for their staff on all cruise ships!I also wonder if people book these cruises ,and can’t afford it.the Alaska trips been cancelled are probably a good thing,you can see mountains anywhere and icebergs,to cold there anyway,

Naw....ships, like airplanes, are so expensive they have to keep running to recoup the money spent to build. despite its issues, carnival probably ran the vista on that bad engine until they couldn't. Second, it takes time to confirm those ports can accept a 4k passenger ship. Now's as good time as any to swap the vista for a more reliable ship for that itinerary. Southern Caribbean is too far for for a ship with propulsion issues anyway.

It is ironic all the way around. Only the Vista class ship has these issues with their engines just like last year on the panorama. I was on the cruise just before it broke down last year in November 1 week, but when the panorama took off again that night apparently she had engine problems, you make an excellent point about what carnival does to either make it last minute or a oops we just developed engine problems when it’s already too late to cancel. Of course it’s all about the money. But if I’m carnival, and I want to salvage a cruise that’s exactly what I would do. Carnival if this is not true then why is 🤪🤪at the last minute to notify passengers always hanging around 👎… I don’t know if common sense can figure out this scenario. But I’m pretty sure” coincidence” could figure it out. Sad lol
