I think its a little unfair to compare brothership's sales to Mario RPG or the thousand year door because those two games are games that people loved and enjoyed for years, while brothership is a brand new game. People will hesitate on buying a game that is brand new since they don't know much about it, but they will immediately buy a remaster of an older game that they know they love or know for a fact is good

Honestly think people are blowing this waaay out of proportion so lets be realistic for a second. Mario and luigi brothership dropped early november and it already passed paper jam which had 50.105 launch sales, its nearly surpassing superstar saga which is 63.839 while it has 63.441 (as of the image provided). Lets also take into consideration that its a new studio working on the series and sure having some old members of alphadream working on it will make it not flop as much, it ultimately falls under the same line: its a new studio picking up scraps of an old company. Its only fair it wont do as well especially when the hype of the series for the general public isnt as there and its the company testing the waters of a vast rpg series that was praised highly. I doubt nintendo will kick the bucket for the series especially after the form they did regarding as to what we as fans wanted to see from the rpg genre

@@Ishikaiwari the only ones that could work for the switch without completely changing the way some actions are done is superstar saga, partners in time and paper jam because both dream team and bowsers inside story use both screens to perform actions whether thats swapping from playing as mario luigi to bowser or using luigi to access the dream worlds luiginary abilities

As someone who works retail, I find it really hard to believe the next console will beat the Switch's launch numbers. I'm sure it'll still be good, but I've seen so many parents this past year and even these past couple months buying the Switch for their kids, and they will certainly not be buying another Nintendo console for a while

I dont think they will. I think the game is gonna sell just fine. One thing to consider is that its gonna get a huge boost by holiday sales. A lot of people who are buying it are probably waiting for christmas to get if for someone rather than buying it on release week

You're not really playing 37 hours during this game. There are at least 10 hours where you're just mashing a to get through corny and repetitive dialogue boxes and few hours of watching enemy attack animations that take forever to finish. This is actually a 15h game but it feels more like a bad visual novel

I think its probably just cause people are gonna buy it closer to christmas time. I think the other part is mario party jamboree also just launched not long before. The game's gonna do fine, its already on track for superstar sagas sales

IGN doesn't know what it wants! 1 minute they're burying Sonic and praising Mario! Now they're burying Mario and praising Sonic! Sonic X Shadow Generations in particular with a 9 out of 10! Not that long ago, "Sonic was never good"! Very indecisive.

@@samseesyou30 tbh, I just go by the average metacritic reviews. On average, the game is scoring way higher than PJ at around 81%, which is just about the series average.

@@stnrodriguezI wouldn't say never. Paper Jam wasn't a good game then on top of that this game and the last one just came on a dying system. Either that or the audience for video games has change in the past couple decades. Which it has cause there's way more casual gamers than core gamers and you can tell that just by the way games are shifting nowadays. They're Definitely going more towards being a movie game with an empty open world and with very mundane quests. It's all about good graphics and how big the game is rather than the quality of gameplay which always tend to suffer. When the first Mario and Luigi came out video games was still kind of a niche thing outside of maybe sport games and GTA probably.

I love the series but didn't buy it because there aren't enough familiar characters, at least not in the early game. Especially since Bowser and Kamek aren't present. Also Toadsworth isn't there. Also I'd rather save up money for the switch 2, unless there's a game I REALLY need

I feel like the game is partially affected by DQ III Remake. Since the release date in quite close and it is far more popular than M&L in Japan. Not sure how well the game sold. But I am sure it is very high.

I should hope Im not the only one thinking this, but uh… ign is a *western* thing, ain’t it? The whole point of this video was about JP’s initial sales, wasnt it, so why should ign really matter much for the jp crowd? Edit psa: sigh, look, the reason, since you say you don’t know, is because what we were saying since ttyd got revealed, only reinforced when this got revealed; it’s because they’ve just released all the mario rpg’s in too quick succession, we _saw_ it was already so when ttyd underperformed after mariorpg. they basically shot themselves in the foot releasing them all within a year. That’s at least one of the most major reasons here, I thought you’d bring that up in the vid tbh. Ah, and the only other thing I’ll wanna add, is my own personal opinion on what woulda made this game better, cus you claim is supposedly ‘didnt innovate enough, or did things too similarly to the previous ones’, when this is literally the most different one structure-wise to the others. But i think the problem that woulda made more peeps like it, is it shoulda been _more_ like the other ones than it is, cus what we have here is, whether ya like to admit it or not, basically a level system. You could even, if ya wanted to go there, say, a mission structure. That is not how the series has gotten its appeal, normally spending a good chunk of time getting through each of 6-8 sections of a world, with maybe a round 2 through them after the first, that’s what I think the problem with the story is; most people think just ‘story’ is all there is to it, but in a story, there’s _plot_ and there’s _scenario_ , and I think the scenario is where this falls behind, cus it’s just a bigger amount of smaller less interesting, less rich and thought out places here. That’s a departure from the others, sure, but a bigger more interconnected world is just what (one of) the appeal of the series til now was, even paper jam did that, but… yeah, this isn’t even me saying this impacts my own enjoyment or anything, just pointing out what i view as facts.

I think its bad timing. Except for Paper jam cause that game just wasnt that good these gsmes tend to come out at the tail end of the consoles life span. Granted there are problems with the game but i seen games have way more problems that sell better. But with the switch being this old and people probably being more burnt out by it likely contributed to the problem. Partners in time and dream team released during the peak of their systems popularity so of course they did better and partners in time was said to be not the greatest in the series but even that sold well. If they had released this game somewhere around 2020 2021 maybe i think it would of did a lot better. Despite its flaws.

Yeah, this is just fake news. The reason this game isn't doing well isn't because the game isn't good, IT IS. It's just that people are either waiting to buy it at christmas, are gullible enough to believe IGN, or just can't support nintendo because of its recent compitation fearing pettiness. Ehhh I rather have Brothership be the last Mario and Luigi game we get instead of Paper Jam. That was a terrible way to leave us hanging whereas Brothership is far more superior than paper jam. Honestly I’m better off with Brothership. Glad we got one finale game that’s original and new unlike Paper Jam.
