I use this example often, but it's apt for those new to the market. Recall COVID and how long it took for the market to wake up to the risks that were starting it in the face. We could all see how quickly and dangerously it was spreading through China and the risks of it reaching US/European shores. Yet for about a month the market just marched right through it, then suddenly without notice that all changed and the market proceeded to sell off 30% in a short space of time. What we can discern is the market is like the Fed, it won't react until it sees it in the data. You can have all the negative leading indicators you like and the market still won't sell off until it's staring us in the face. Just how it is.

For market participants with 20 years or less experience a slowdown / recession = crisis. That’s unlikely now. There just isn’t any evidence that we are on the cusp of any major destabilising downturn (i was short into GFC), in USA certainly or even Europe (my main market). Rather, we are facing a modest “run-of the mill” cyclical slowdown NOT a crisis. UK and China are maybe exceptions of more durable malaise. So despite the normal seasonal wobbles, the most likely scenario is equity market continues to grind higher into year end as market looks to rate cuts in 2024. When rate cuts are imminent because inflation is fading it is hard to see lower rates as anything but very supportive to equities.

Thanks for the perspective you guys provide. People can listen and incorporate into their investment strategy or they can choose not to listen and be blindsided in the future. I look at it like you guys are providing awareness so that I am better prepared to react when necessary with my investments. A lot of commenters are just being trolls with "gotcha" comments based on timing. Just use the info to broaden your knowledge and awareness and don't focus so much on timing. After all, only God gets timing perfect.
