Just trying to be positive, i trully think that England will have a better chance at more attacking teams. I really feel like and this isn't just for this tournament, this has been an issue for a few years, England struggle against 11 defenders. But against better opposition there is more rooms through the middle as both teams are more spread out rather than all being in a single half. That's me obviously trying my best to look on the bright side of what has been a painful watch. Was encouraged when Mainoo, Palmer and Gordon came on though. Both Palmer and Gordon looking to run past players rather than play it back to defence. Gallagher can't be near this team, he is a liability and the fact that Southgate has been choosing him out of the options we have means this team has to be given to a more inspiring manager.

All of England expected England to be top of there group before the start of the tournament but with 9 points and a big goal difference as well. Easiest fix for me? go to 3-4-3 (trippier wide left, TAA wide right, Walker RCB) Move ball faster even if results in more mistakes - higher risk, higher reward. The ball is being progressed SO SLOWLY.

You could play a 3-4-1-2 instead. 4 at the back is unnecessary because the width at the back is pointless if not able to use it.

@@ASOXO First of all either he should have brought a fit LB or use a mobile CB as LB and have him tuck in and hold back to allow Walker or Trent as RB to push forward as much as they want. To use a CB there is not ideal at all, but a LB needs to be left footed and if Chillwell is that bad then even AWB as a LB that stays back would have been better than just wasting Trippier in attack so he can pass back. The starting XI is : Pickford Trent. Stones. Guehi. Tomori Rice Bellingham. Foden Saka. Kane. Eze I know Gordon is most persons first pick but I want to see Eze play, but I’m aware that 90% of people wants Gordon there and I have no problem with him. Also Palmer makes more happen than Saka but I haven’t seen enough from him for England, but it’s close to put him in. Walker could start instead of Trent also, it depends on the opposition. Same with what I would have done with the LB situation it depends on the opponents

I’m usually a glass half full type of guy when it comes to supporting England. I never go into tournaments with the expectation that we’ll win it and I just enjoy the games for what they are. So I’m inclined to agree with what you are saying. However, we’ve been playing very poorly now all year (not just this tournament) and have limped through the group stages. If we continue playing the way that we have been, we’ll be going home very soon. I feel like just one good performance can turn things around very quickly but as things stand we do look like a team that is going to go out with a whimper.

England have no width on the left side. THey get smothered in the middle of the field. Kane, Bellingham, & Foden all trying to play the same space in midfield. It's not rocket science. You either play with a left winger who's bread and butter is taking on right backs, or you force your left back to actually play attacking football. I think that means playing Joe Gomez above Trippier. But it could also look like playing Gordon at left wing. Of course, this would require a formation change, as the 4-2-3-1 has been laughable. Southgate is a tool. What else is new?

The History of English Football. Mediocre to competent players over hyped as world class talent. This current crop is competent as complementary players that can fill a role on a championship team. You wouldn’t build a championship team featuring them. They have benefited from playing with world class talent in the Premiership and Bundesliga which has distorted their abilities by fans and media. Now that they're responsible for pulling their own weight, creating chances, setting the tone and pace of a match and fail. No midfielders with technical or attacking ability, no wingers that run at and threaten defenses, no threat from the back line. It’s a slow and plodding team fearful of going forward because of lack of ability to do so and Southgate’s obsession with a clean sheet. One pundit accurately stated “Southgate would rather win 1-0 or on penalties than 5-2”. Their next game will be their last. Their going home as the chant goes. They've seen the high octane attack of South American teams (Brazil, Argentina) over the years but have done little to emulate their attacking success. Slow and steady doesn't always win the race. It hasn't in football for a while until England let Italy through the door in 2020 trying to sit on an early 1-0 lead. Disastrous on all counts. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
