Great show, Becket, I graduated high school in 1973, so I lived through the 70's. So much of the reason I was able to begin to live as openly gay was the exceptance that began to be fashionable in society. When I read Carter's statements about gay marriage I had the same gut wrenching feeling you expressed, Becket. How many have been led into Hell by these "loving" affirmations of homosexuality. Keep up the excellent work!!

Still on this journey of religion myself... if you don't mind me asking, if it's ok with you... how is this experience with you now in the 2020's, after being "openly gay" in the 1970's? Still gay? Still experiencing SSA, but still committed to Christ? Or not SSA anymore? I promise, I won't judge you. God bless.

I was so sad when "Imagine" was John Lennon was played at First Lady Rosalynn Carter's funeral. A funeral is an opportunity to preach gospel that saves people from Hell, as opposed to singing "no Hell to die for".

Thought the very same thing

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. What I originally thought is that actually she wanted "I can only imagine," a totally different view, and that her children had misunderstood her wishes in this regard. But nope, a repeat today at President Carter's DC service! How ironic that such a hopeLESS song ("Imagine") would be played while also hopeFULLY assuming that Jimmy and Rosalynn were "together now" (where???).

I don’t think a funeral is an appropriate venue to be warning people about Hell. It’s a place to talk about how to get to heaven, the importance of knowing Jesus, and the shortness of the time we have, sure. But trying to scare people with words about Hell in a time of loss and grief does not seem fruitful or kind.
@timyoder2541
@timyoder2541 10 сағат бұрын
@Andreamom001 I don't think anyone is talking about scaring people about hell at a funeral service, but I do know and believe that it is a totally appropriate place to preach the Gospel. My Mother died last year and one of her instructions concerning her funeral was that the message of Christ's redemptive work on the cross was spoken.

I watched the funeral and we realize based on scripture that being good and doing good works does NOT save us! I hope he truly was.
@emagreene9775
@emagreene9775 7 сағат бұрын
The scriptures do not say that. The scriptures say that none of us are good, according to our Lord's standards. That why we have to rely on Him and pray for his forgiveness. This is a very basic explanation, but also very truthful and easy to understand.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. Romans 3:23 says "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Also, Romans 3:10 "There is no one righteous, not even one;.."Also, Ephesians 2: 8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast." My prayer is that Jimmy Carter knew the grace of God. He did many works. As Christians, our works should be as a result of God's saving grace in our lives. @@emagreene9775
@leenieledejo6849
@leenieledejo6849 59 минут бұрын
@@emagreene9775Firstly that's not what the comment says. You need to read it again. Secondly, please spend your time in the Bible and not listening to men because Scripture does NOT say "none of us are good". The passage you are referring to (in Romans 3) is *ONE* passage that a) cannot be used as doctrine because one sole passage can *never* be used as doctrine and b) should be read in its immediate context and in the context of Romans as a whole and the New Testament as a whole. What does its immediate context tell us? That Paul is referring to PAGAN, PRE-CHRISTIAN Gentiles. He is NOT even talking about Old Covenant believers, never mind regenerate Christians. He also quotes two or three Psalms in that passage and if you read these psalms, you will see that they refer to "the unGodly" and "fools". There are numerous Old Covenant believers who are described as δίκαιοι (dikaioi) meaning "righteous" eg. Elizabeth and Zacharias, Joseph (husband of Mary), Simeon, John the Baptist and Lot (in 2 Peter 2:8). Just do a word study of δίκαιοι (dikaioi). [Sometimes unscrupulous, agenda-driven translations translate it as "just" or "devout" but it means "righteous"]. Furthermore, Job is described as "upright" and "blameless". Noah is obedient. The list goes on. All these people were "above reproach" according to God's standard at the time/the Law. God didn't send his son to suffer and die in order to make us worse than the lost world, the same as the lost world or just as upright as the righteous under the Old Covenant. He sent his son to suffer, die and rise again so that we could be FREE FROM SIN (John 8:34-36, Romans 6), FREE from the power of Satan (1st John chapter 3, Acts 26:18, 2 Timothy 2:26), CLEANSED of all past sin and able to walk in righteousness (not just according to the law set in stone but *in the steps of* Jesus - 1 Peter 2:21 - IMITATING him: 1st Corinthians 11:1). That's what he's talking about in the Sermon on the Mount. That's the new standard which those who trust in him most certainly CAN reach by the power of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17, Romans 8:9) which Old Covenant believers did not have indwelling. Anyone calling themselves "Christian" who does not believe that the Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead has the power to transform hearts so that they love righteousness and see sin as poison to be avoided at all costs, is walking just as an UNbeliever and God will see them as an unbeliever. Only the unregenerate (i.e not born again/born of the Spirit and so not Christian by definition: John 1:12-13, Romans 8:9) continue in sin according to 1st John chapter 3 and they do so because they don't believe that the way of Jesus is best and they want to put self first (the root of sin according to Romans 13:8-10).

Watching the funeral today was quite eye opening….the anthem of the secular world…”Imagine” was sung….this absolutely and unequivocally flies in the face of TRUE Christianity….Carter was a misguided soul!we can all “think” we are Christians….whether it be Carter or Nancy Reagan….it doesn’t matter what we think it matter what scripture commands of those who follow Jesus.

I turned 28 in 1976, was a single mother of two little boys (my husband left us for another woman) and had to deal with the "energy crisis". What a mess that was. As a Christian, I was unhappy with Carter's unChristian stances you and John West discussed in this video. The other thing that puzzled me was that he didn't seem to be really pro Israel to me. He certainly did side with the "palestinians". I think he probably believed in replacement theology. As President Trump said in the recent press conference, Carter was a "good man" but he wasn't a good president. Carter made so many horrific decisions during his presidency. Thank you for this great interview, Becket!😊

We had a gas station right around the corner and down the hill from my childhood home in Los Angeles County. I looked out my bedroom window early one morning and there was a line of cars around our neighborhood. So I got out of bed started my mom's car and traveled about 30 feet and got in line to get gas. Odd or Even, depending on the last number on your license plate, and that day was our day to get gas. I also remember the failed attempt to free the hostages during Carter's time in office. 😒🙄😔

Sproul was a false Calvinist preacher and was in (self-confessed) bondage to tobacco all his life. Jesus sets us FREE from everything Satanic (1st John chapter 3) and addiction to tobacco is Satanic. He was not free. Most likely because he believed in and preached lies.

I was a young married women with a new baby at the end of '77. It was a nightmare. Hijacking of our planes, hostages, such high interest rates and gas lines. Then his Middle East stands. Not a friend to Isreal. My first time I voted was for Ronald Reagan's 1st term. I was saved at 19 and always felt God moved him into that position after a disastrous Carter Administration. Like now U.S. was weak and our enemies took advantageous of us. Playing for those in the way of the fires.

My siblings and cousins were young, married and wanting to buy their first homes during the Carter years. Interest rates 14-18% prevented them from buying a home so they bought trailers. Unemployment in my town reached 28%. It was a devastating time during the Carter Administration. No gas. Few jobs. High interest rates. Low wages. He was not a good president. Habitat for humanity is a good organization but he was probably more suited for that rather than running a country.

I was hearing recently about J.C. being a devout Christian, but I had my doubts. I had no idea he made such a statement about gay marriage. That is very telling, along with the campaign poster. My dad despised him. I remember my dad watching Jimmy’s televised Oval Office speeches and he’d get so aggravated that he couldn’t watch them until the end. On the other hand my dad adored Reagan. I miss the Reagan years. 🇺🇸 Reagan was so patriotic and positive. He was the opposite of the divisive leadership we have now. Becket, we were on the same page as far as Nancy Reagan goes. I was thinking the same thing about Nancy regularly consulting with astrologers. Speaking of Jane Wyman I’ve been binge watching Falcon Crest on Amazon Prime Video. There isn’t much I can watch these days on television, so I sometimes resort to older shows. Falcon Crest wasn’t G rated, but by today’s standards it certainly was. What’s happening in California is by design. It’s such a tragedy. May the Lord use it to draw people to Him. I hope many evangelicals are out walking in that area and preaching the gospel. Many will be open to hearing it having lost almost everything and wanting answers. Many of them were so close to losing their lives. Be safe Becket as I’m sure the air is beyond contaminated and not good for the lungs. I hope you have a good indoor air purifier.

Thank you for a great guest to articulate what we knew in our gut about Carter. I had forgotten many such as Carter legitimizing Hamas! Carter was the last democrat that I voted for. Actually it was my firsts time to vote and I really thought he was a Christian! A Christ follower obeys God's laws and it seems that Carter had a social-gospel faith of good works vs. we are all sinners and no good work of ours can rid of us our sins. Or perhaps he was a cultural Christian as many are in the U.S.

I was a teenager in the 1970's, and I remember how seductive, spiritually, many ideas and philosophies that were swirling around in the ether felt then - it was a worldwide shift. Young, inexperienced and näive people like myself thought these were 'new' ideas, but I have since learned they went far back; some were quite ancient. Over time, we have seen how endorsing them spawned even more rebellion and - gag - it's gotten really bad.. I don't even think Carter understood the gravity in supporting certain of those ideas, nor what their longterm effects would be. It was like a wave that so many of us caught on to, and thought we were so cool. It was like the fairy tale of The Pied Piper - there's even a song from that period ('60's-'70's) that goes, "I'm the Pied Piper🎶"- and just like the old fairy tale, the children - we children - were led astray - and musicians were writing the songs which carried these more loose ideas along, and many parents then (sigh) just felt helpless to deal with our - theft, really.

Both Ron and Nancy heavily relied on astrology and regularly consulted the magic arts to guide their lives and decisions. Don't know if it was mostly Nancy, but this has been what I've heard and observed about them. I just don't feel that there has been that many presidents that were truly born again. Abraham Lincoln is the only one I know of that spoke about the 'Living God' and used God's Word to guide his presidency. Most were just conservative and believed in God, but didn't profess Jesus to be the one and only savior. This being said, I still would recognize Reagan and some others to be honorable and upright rulers of our Nation 🙌

Carter has made comments about not taking the Bible literally, which definitely does not align with being a Christian. I remember an interview in which the interviewer challenged Carter about something, I don't remember what, based on the Bible. Carter, with a smile: "I don't agree with St Paul about that." My mother, who was a believer but was very shy, introverted, and sweet, was indignant, disgusted, even. Absolutely disgusted. She had voted for Carter in 1976, and so had I. I think the most important thing we should all do as Christians is humble ourselves and draw nearer to God. There will never be any politician who truly resembles Jesus, the messiah-our Lord and Savior. Yes, we can tune in politics from time to time but it’s not necessary to our salvation to idolize or support anyone in office. At the end of the day we don’t know them personally. It doesn’t matter how conservative or liberal their policy is. The only thing we need to be discussing is how to show the fruits of the Spirit in our own lives!

"You will know them by their fruits." Our theology is what we believe and is a central aspect to our fruit. By our faith our mind is renewed (Rom 12:2) and our thinking drives our life and practice. Carter showed that he did not know Christ - a false faith as explained in James 2:14-26.

I believe when the right president is in office who supports Gods way it extends the time before Jesus comes back. Reagan really had a personal relationship with the Lord. I know for us believers we are all ready for Jesus to come back now, but in reality God wants every soul to be saved before he comes back.

Hearing about Ronald Reagan 's wife, Nancy Reagan read the horrorscope and gave suggestions from it to Ronald. So I don't know how many of them our country was led by. Ronald appeared a humble man, and probably wasn't into it, but she may not have told him where a lot of her advice came from.

Please don’t focus on the negative. We are all human beings. Carter may have been a typical southern church goer which often means not a believer. But only the Lord knows those who are His. This is the first of your blogs that has made me sad. My view as a Canadian is that Americans attach their politics (in this case a Democrat - oh no!) where not necessary. It seemed like, a man’s died, so now let’s talk about the fact that he wasn’t a Republican and therefore made all kinds of mistakes. Crazy, especially in regard to your regular great programming.

I agree. This video was hard to listen to. We don’t know any of these said “Christian politicians” well. We can’t judge them if they were never truly saved or confused. Furthermore, we shouldn’t idolize any current politician who claims to have Christian policies but don’t show fruit in their personal lives !!!

It's not like the show is his eulogy. Who someone was, what they did or didn't do, it is what it is. Whether he speaks on it now, or waited 10 yrs, the man is still passed, and how one views him as a person, or views what he did or didn't do, it is what it is. It would be like someone saying their views on Elvis, on his funeral date. He's gone either way, and how they view the man is what it is on the day of his funeral, or 20 yrs from now. When one expresses those views doesn't matter. Again, the show isn't his eulogy.

Hi Becket, hope you’re safe will in LA and am praying for everyone’s safety. Heads up this is a long message. As a Gen-Z person, I’ve liked some of your videos, and have commented positively before, but on this video, respectfully I think your title is misleading, making out a man like Jimmy Carter to not have done a lot of good during his life on this earth and just contributed a bunch of bad. A better discussion should have been the pros and cons of his legacy from your perspective. It also strikes me as poor-timing that you posted this on the day of his funeral ceremony. He’s done a lot of good serving communities nationally and internationally well and has advocated for peace instead of war, and much more. Carter has a great legacy, though many people can make mistakes over their lifetime. By the way, as an African American woman, Reagan actually said a lot of very racist things, and maybe you should make a video about that titled “Bad Theology, etc. Reagan” but I won’t recommend that. I’m not sure how I feel about your channel anymore. For some time now I’ve felt that it’s diverged from being about you telling your testimony of coming to Christ and helping people to understand the Bible to your videos being motivated by the latest talking points by Cancel-culture political leaders who don’t seek to understand people or where they are coming from, but instead seeks to label people and people’s attempts to address social injustices in this world down to something worthy of canceling or dismissible because they didn’t like some of the things they did or said over a lifetime. I don’t understand how some of your recent videos are doing anything but encouraging cancel-culture. As Christians we should be calling people to think critically about people and social movements, instead of putting easy labels on them as a way to dismiss them and not doing the hard work of understanding where people are coming from. As Christians we should be calling people to have relationships with those they disagree with and have the deep, important conversations divided Christians and a divided nation need to have.
