Japan shouldn't forget where they were less than 70 years ago, when they were considered junk, plagiarized products. With china's huge number of high achieving engineering graduates, it is almost guaranteed that they will be industry leading in the very, very near future. just seeing the state of the art testing facilities shows the direction the company is headed towards.

Very true statement, Japan should learn from that. And also realize that, see the fall of arrogant empires right now: Nobody like to do business with a bully. Cooperation is the key. Be friendly, be humble and it will do your business good.

Japanese citizens are very insulated toward China hence their lack of the progress Chinese made products. Almost all countries copy one another at one stage.
Thank you for the well made documentary. I really enjoy the last bit when the engineer shared about his parent subtle recognition. The grit and hardwork from these engineers finally paid off. I am sure the Chinese car industry will succeed in the future.
I used to think lowly of Chinese branded cars back in the late 2000s and early 2010s. But after seeing models made by Chinese companies like NIO recently, I became impressed. It’s nice to see them stepping up their game and finding their own identities, just like what the Koreans did with Hyundai and KIA.

I used to think lowly of chinese products too but realised later business is about cost. If u r not willing to pay 20 for a set of quality screw drivers but prefer to pay 2.50, then no one should be talking about quality of the 2.50 set because everything has a cost. The quality demand of the west is not matched by the price they willing to pay. Japan used to make quality products in the early 80s, then they prospered and started to buy real estate and businesses worldwide, focus on easy money and since late 80s, Japanese quality already is a myth and going downhill. I can vouch for it because I am willing to pay more for Japanese electronics but each time, I was let down.

I've recently seen the progress in China and believe me their mission "Made in China" in 2025 is going to come true. There products in every area is just getting so good for a fraction of the costs in most developed countries. All the home products I've seen are now already superior. The future is China! sorry Tesla is way behind now. Elon knows it hence has to focus on Twitter now;)

China is already the top EVs producers in the world! China had controlled many upstream technologies like EV batteries and materials. China is likely going to lead the world in EVs. Toyota recently reported huge losses as EVs are taking over convention internal combustion engine cars as the future transport media. Japan even imported electric buses from China shows that China is already way ahead of Japan in the future car!
Amazing documentary. You have transformed from a vlogger about Japanese living in China to exploring the relationship between China and Japan. Fantastic!
Agreed, I think this video is more important to show in Japan.

Its true that Geely cars used to be bad (you would be embarrassed to be caught in one). But most of those still thinking chinese cars are still bad probably never seen or driven one. Now a lot of the chinese cars offer better value for money at almost the same level of built quality, reliability and aesthetics, though the design aesthetics, branding still needs improvement.

in my mind there has never been any doubt chinese engineering is as good as anyone else's, at the same price point. you get what you pay for - this is the key. there is another world where south korea makes budget smart phones and china is renown for its electronic entertainment brands. whose national industries flourish is greatly determined by the export of capital, foreign investment, neo-imperialism, call it what you will. i see this trend as china taking a path unseen in modern history, and i hope other colonized countries will have the ability to take control of industry on their own soil.

When Japanese car first arrived in Australia, they were considered the worst car ever build, Land Rover owners used to laugh at land cruiser owners. What took Japanese 70 plus years, Chinese will do it in 25 years.

Your enduring contribution to China/Japan relationship and China/ Rest of the World relationship speak volumes for your vision and humanity; please keep it up. This is now more relevant than ever.
Breaking into the foreign markets has always been hard for everyone. It's doable but going to be difficult in the next 5 years at least because of changing economic conditions in many countries.
I live in Indonesia, still fresh in my mind, up to early 70’s most of cars, lorries, and all automotive products are dominated by US, and Europeans. When Japan made care arrived, many of us are still doubt about the quality until it proves that japan made cars are found to be giving more value add.. and since then, automotives are dominated by Japan made cars. And in early 90’s Korean cars are coming, and in 2000, china cars are seen on the roads… hopefully, all automotive competitions will give the users get more benefits in term better qualities and good price.

By 2030 or earlier, China car and truck manufacturers will eat Toyota's lunch! Just has China did it with super trains, internet technologies, cell phones, etc. These Chinese engineers are young and healthy. They are driven by national pride and a clear sense of patriotism.

@@asiacuisine4869 But the Toyota Hilux truck is very good and is the #1 selling truck in the world. Once China beats the Toyota Hilux, which will happen soon, then China will have also conquered the car/truck market.
China is VERY humble. they don't mind taking the abuse, learning, being patient and eventually becoming the master. West and Japan like to denigrate China products as cheap or knock offs or IP theft when in reality much of it is traded knowledge or learning curve and hard knocks/work. They have come a long way and sales of China EVs are only getting stronger with the massive domestic market and streamlining of industry standards for batteries etc. The environment in the Geely office is like any other, creative, innovative, cooperative. Far from the factory drone worker image many in West tend to believe. These are exciting times in one of the fastest growing and most innovative car markets AND largest in the world...China. A good peek into the people that make it happen. Human capital and know how is everything.

Yet Japan still occupies a lot of industries of high profit, like sensor (keyence), equiments (fanuc), Those companies can still earn a lot from the growth of global industry. And what's more, Japan's animation industry is unpeerable and will be long so.
