It seems like the kind of little tent that you put on your kid's bed. My son loved his bed tent so much that I had to get one for his little brother. It was just fun and gave them a secure feeling back in the day. No need to worry about rain or condenstation, but it did a great job of keeping the "boggieman" at bay. 😊

Ive got the same box stove, 11quid from ebay. Used it a dozen or so times, grille warped but the rest is fine. If you luft the 2 handles, you can drop the wire grille over them which holds the handles vertically and you can rest a pan/pot on them with around a 20mm gap from top of firebox to bottom of pan. Helps with airflow.

I love twig stoves. I bought a wood gasification model for little over £12, from ebay. It's a beauty. It doesn't fold flat, but packs up like a Russian Doll, one piece inside the other. The packed size is a little more than that of an enamel mug.

Only tangentially related but I once bought a "raincoat" from Primark and walked for 50 minutes during a heavy downpour and I was absolutely sodden by the end. Water leaked in through the nylon but also through the seams and my entire top body was soaking wet. I wouldn't have looked worse than if I didn't wear a coat at all. For the sake of a few more quid I would have been better off buying something with taped seams and better material which is the lesson I learned that day and have abided by ever since.

This is what you buy a kid going on his first camping trip with his buddies. Personally, I would put the ground sheet INSIDE the tent, since it still absorbed water, with the tarp under the tent. This would encourage the young person to do a few more chores, or mow a few lawns [in the USA] to earn money for a better tent. OR, buy a top dollar tarp and learn to camp that way, with a diamond/ Adirondike set up [Joe Robinett's favorite tarp setup.] Everything has a season, and everything has it's place. We all have to start somewhere and that is usually with what we can afford. Thank you, for bringing us along.

I use one of these "tents" with an OEX waterproof sleeping bag cover ( bivvy ) Keeps rain off and bugs out, i think of it as 360° tarp! Packs away fast, free standing so ideal for bikepacking overnight if you have a spot thats not exposed to much wind. Then they buckle like a wet noodle!

Good Nz morning Mike. Back in the day, late 50s/early 60's our cheap pup tents were made of a calico. Coldest, most uncomfortable night i had down here, was August, middle of our winter. We had a 10°F ground temp, so nowadays we'd say neg 12°C. Scraping frost off the inside of the tent was the highlight. By the way altitude was 2000ft. Venting in those tents was a case of the flaps not being tied together, tightly. Someone came up with an idea of taking a heap of pencils and pencil sharpener, for tinder. Seemed to work ok. I was taught what wood to use, basically totara, rimu hardwood. You had to know how to start a fire in the wet, otherwise you never survived. Boys became men, at a young age. Like your fire box mate, very handy. Thanks for the upload and share. Take care and atb from down under.

I had same tent lasted me around 3 years as homeless person. Was very satisfied with it. No other tent had lasted more than few months. It was easy and very quick to setup and hidden, especially in deep grass. The only problem I had, was that one corner line (between bottom and top material) was around inch short and rain was falling in from that hole and those carbon poles where not very durable material. Finally I had more taped them that original material was left. For me it wasn't short as I'm only 5 foot 7. Also, the condensation wasn't so bad for me, but when there was heavy rain more than few days, I had to sleep in bassin. The best is, that it's very lightweight, 600g only while any other tent would be over 1kg. I paid something $49 for it.

The first tent I bought was at Kmart. A pup tent. After a few uses, the nylon fabric was stretched so much it was unusable, even though there were loops on the sides to help pull them out. I cut the floor out and many, many years later I still use the floor as a tarp to drag piles of leaves on every fall. Even though it didn't last long as a tent, I still think I got my money's worth.

I remember buying a cheap crappy Walmart RIG tent like that and I used it for a straight month before it started falling apart! 👍👍👍 .. a good share .. thanks. Tent and Stove both good buys (before the howling starts 😏) .. The Stove did what it was supposed to do. 4-6 compressed Charcoal Briquettes make for a handy addition to any wood stove setup. I take a pack of 12 with me when I'm planning to use a wood burner, for convenience and 'just in case'. The Tent .. ideal as a 'starter' with which to 'test the water' when considering taking on outdoor camping and such and before committing big time. Together with a good quality Tarp (the tarp will be kept), the tent should serve as a good wind / rain spray shield and with the door unzipped, condensation will be less of a problem. Then .. that tent will be ideal for the kids and dog/s / cats whatever, for weekend good weather backyard camping. One way of getting them interested in the Outdoors and keeping them off their electronic media devices and .. out of one's hair .. 😉😏. My kids and pooches (a female pittie and little male jack russel), especially my daughter, absolutely loved backyard camping overnighters 😊. Once again, thanks for sharing .. nice and simple 👍. Take care ..

I own a similar if not identical tent, just a different color scheme and bag. I needed a small tent for western fire details and started with this cheap one. Somehow it has survived 2 fire crew trips, with my last one requiring the tent to be set up and taken down daily (great for morale) and being tied onto my fire bag going through 3 airports each way. Small, dinky, and minimalist but just enough for me to get my change of clothes and gear in with me every night. Cool to see you talk about and use it!

yeah i have one of these, great little tent. I'm six three and there's still room in there, there's also room to squeeze my pack in if i sleep sideways or i just hang it off a branch nearby, tiny entrance vestibule to keep your boots and a few bits, its very low profile, two skin, and fits in a side pouch on my pack, excluding the poles. You can also use the inner tent on its own if you know its not going to rain, essentially a big hooped mosquito net that is great for stargazing.

Dave Canterbury posted a recent video and showed his first use of a tent similar to your military tent. I think his was either French or Italian. New old surplus. It had many excellent features and was much lighter than the one you showed recently. I really liked yours for car camping because I liked the heavy weight material. His is probably half the weight, yet well built and lots of venting options that are all bug-netted. He used a spray on sealant on all the seams as a more confident waterproofing solution rather than finding out the seams would leak in heavy rain and snow. I believe it was around $60.00 USD. Has a bathtub floor in it too. Leaky tents can sure ruin a camping trip. ✌️🇺🇸 oh yeah, I have that same stove and I’ve had no warpage issues. I think my grill is a heavier duty grade of metal though. The stove was covered in a blue plastic covering and that was a pain to get off.

Mike. I had an idea last year but it would involve a few KZbinrs just for the fun of it, but I'll say it anyway. The idea is to make a rubbish tent into a good one for the least amount of money. The rules: 1. Everyone has the same tent. 2. Sticking a tarp over the top of a leaky tent is against the rules, it just seems a quick way out. 3. Any alterations to the tent must look like they came out of the factory ( colour matching the fabric isn't included ) 4. Seam sealant tape, seam sealant are allowed, replacement of the floor is also allowed. 5. Any testing must include rain. There's other rules but I can't remember them. The whole idea is to have a good time and improve the tent for the lowest price. Given that the tent in this video had a cap on the top, the rules don't stop you making a bigger one or one that sticks out to make a porch. If you're interested in doing it then go ahead, it'll be fun. 😀👍

re 7:03 (ground sheet) -- how do you deal with a prospect of laying in the literal puddle of water from the rainwater flowing down the walls and collecting in the groundsheet? This is something I have yet to solve :)

After many years of camping, I never set up a tent without 2 large waterproof tarps. One for a groundcloth and one for a rain fly. Fold the ground cloth to make it about six inches bigger than the bottom of the tent all around. The rain fly needs to be about 2 feet bigger than the tent all around. This will keep both the tent and the ground cloth dry unless it’s a big storm. If you are expecting rain, or are staying in the same spot awhile, trench all around the tent and make the water flow away from you. You can also put dry wood up under the rain fly, and your gear if you’re not in bear country. Then you hang it from a tree some distance away.❤️🤗🐝

I once worked at an outdoor supplier, and we had this very cheap Mil-Tec tent that was advertised with a pretty high water pressure stat. We tested it, and it turned out to have the opposite problem: The bottom was watertight, made very well, but the top leaked through _everywhere_, so it essentially became a 'soup bowl' of a tent. It was still usable for even bad weather, if you just used it as in internal tent and put a tarp or a fly over it to cover the top from rain, it was decently wind-proof and for ~25€ you _could_ do worse. But we made sure to advertise _all_ of it's properties on our product information and when selling it at our store.

It is a 16 oz container of sour cream approximately 2 oz of horseradish more if you prefer 2 to 3 Tbs of lemon juice the light sprinkling of Lawry's seasoned salt Andy light sprinkling of fresh cracked black pepper. Maxwell and enjoy. Also something that I learned growing up going camping and fishing with my US Navy dad was that you always take more provisions than you think you will need because you never know when you may get stuck for an extra day or so.

I like your pump torch, which I couldn’t see a link for!

I'd try that tent on top of a lightweight camping cot. The cot would then double as a sitting spot, ground tarp, no sticks/rocks poking through the tent, and no thermal conduction from sleeping on the ground. You can also use a sleeping mat for extra comfort. Since the tent has no vestibule, having the cot would give you extra storage space under to keep things tidy and dry.

How about doing a few follow ups where you keep buying the next level up of each item stopping when you find something suitable for a newbie to camping. That might give people a better idea of where they can save but still get some quality.

Have a very simular tent by milltech. Bit bigger may be has an extra pole, that goes across for stability german dpm patter. Believe used in german army.

You mentioned that with all your gear that you didn't get cold. But what I want to know is did the tent keep you warmer than if you didn't have it? .... They say that if the electricity goes out for long periods of time (weeks) to put up a tent inside your home as an extra insulation barrier. I'm wondering if this tent would work inside my home, or if I should just get a better one. We have a huge one for outdoors, but it's too big for inside the house. 💖🌞🌵😷

A can of Scotchguard goes a long way with cheap tents. Also, replacing guy lines with paracord and replacing the stakes.

They should advertise these tents as garden tents.

That's what it is but it was probably from some chinese seller who just lists features the product doesn't have to tempt people.

Great tent for his son to play with in the back yard.

@@burnzy3210 you are probably right but this dort of gear can be really dangerous for beginners or festivals where hypothermia can get someone who is more than a short walk from their car.

The condensation on any single skin tent would be horrendous at this point in the UK. It could cost £1,000,000 and it would still be awful. They only work in dry arid climates and seasons.

I recently went camping with a cheap Wal-Mart tent in the pouring rain. You're supposed to have a tarp for a fly with the cheap ones. I stayed perfectly dry. Edit: Yeah, that tent is so much worse than the one I used 😂

My daughter and son-in-law got me that grill for either Christmas or my birthday did yours come with all that blue stuff all over it and it works really really well it burns efficiently how do you smaller stuff in it are used to do it with a small amount of charcoalI’ve used it with sticks and twigs toasting marshmallows with the grandkids making s’mores I’ve made coffee with it and never had a problem with it other than that blue stuff that was nerve-racking getting that off but I love mine

I couldn't stop thinking about my Decathlon MH100 that I bought for festival season which is only £29 and seems sooooo much better than that crappy tent you used. Poor you ! Thanks for the experience anyway.

I’ve got one of those stoves for kayak expeds so my fires leave no trace. Great wee kit but generally only last a season before they’re almost useless. Had a guy turn up to a beginner Exped once with the £20 tent. We decided to do a base camp Exped at a camp site as he’d have been a liability at some of the wild spaces with it. It kept him dry enough in some rain but the condensation was terrible and the base was full of water. Guy was 6 ft and was really uncomfortable. Value isn’t always worth it. Like the wax sheet idea - may have to get one of those!
