The first verse of Don't Pray On Me is about Rodney King and the riots that followed. Hansen and Hester are from the Scarlet Letter, Mark David and John is referring to John Lennon's murder, and Jack and Marilyn is JFK and Marilyn Monroe.

I love Don't Pray On Me so much... easily my favorite song on this album if not my all time favorite BR song. It's musically unique and the lyrics are so punny and witty. 9.999 out of 10.

Don't pray on me was my little girls nursery rhyme. Great tune!

The first bit of Don't pray on me has sooooo many awesomely clever references: "A grizzly scene on my electron beam showed a story about human rights"--this is a reference to the video taped beating of Rodney King that eventually boiled over into the LA Riots. "So all the king's horses and all of King's men had a riot for 2 days and nights"--the LA Riots, but notice the singsongy cadence of the lyrics serving as kind of a nursery rhyme, allowing them to slip in a "King's horses and men" bit...this particular king being Rodney King. "Well the city exploded but the Gates wouldn't open so the company asked him to quit..."--This one is by far my favorite, because of how damn smoothly it's inserted. The "Gates" being referenced is the notorious LAPD chief of police, Daryl Gates. Gates had an extremely antagonistic relationship with the public for years before the riots blew everything wide open, even engaging in a very high profile standoff with the mayor of LA after the King tape was released and he refused to resign....the "company asked him to quit"

So when you guys were talking about the line "Lay hands off her body; it's not your fucking life!" And Joel said "it's the first f-bomb in the song" I was just like "buddy... it's the only f-bomb on the ALBUM." Which is mind blowing considering, y'know, it's Bad Religion we're talking about here.

I think Don't Pray On Me might be my favorite song on this album. It's great. But I do like all of them, it's a very hard choice. Might be Portrait of Authority.

Wooooooh boys here we go again with Bayside. They released a song a week and a half ago called How to Ruin Everything (it’s cool because they have a song on their debut album called How to Fix Everything). The new song has Ice Nine Kills as a feature. I also just saw Bayside last night at The Nile in AZ and they killed it :)

With only Skyscraper and Stealth remaining from this album, I don't think you guys should be reviewing Stealth at all. This one is not really a song, has no lyrics, no music, just some sound.. instead, I think you should listen to Skyscraper, the album version, and then listen to the Acoustic version from the New Maps of Hell deluxe edition bonus tracks (just search for Skyscraper acoustic). I would love to see Chuck's reaction to that one.
