Thank you for this. Very informative. I have owned my overlocker since 2001 and I never used it much. Then I joined the charity group Days for Girls and my overlocker is working all the time now. It's good to know how to properly look after it. I was always a little afraid of it and found threading it a pain but I have overcome those obstacles and now zoom around on it. It's becoming a friend instead of a threat now!

Hi there, thank you, thank you, thank you for this excellent video. I got this serger for my Christmas 2020 and nine months later took it out of the box for the first time. I would never have been able to thread it or get it going without your help. I have been sewing (mainly quilting now) for 56 years with normal sewing machines but thought I'd like to try a serger. Thank you for your patience and clear instructions. I'm sure I will return to your videos in the days and weeks to come.

Hi Abi what a great demonstration I have had my Singer 14/78 for about 4 weeks and I usually give it a light clean before I start but will give it a deep clean next time.These kind of tutorials are so helpful thanks .

I love my Singer overlocker from Lidl and regularly brush it but have never oiled it. I’m going to order new needles and 3 in 1 oil and give it some TLC. Thanks for excellent videos Abi 👍

Love these tutorials! Just waiting for my overlocker to arrive and trying to learn as much as I can to make the most of it. Soo informative Abi. Wish I lived near you so could take some of your classes.

Love everything about this video, except the suggestion to use 3-in-1 oil. Sewing machine oil is finer and better quality, and very easily available online when the supplied one runs out, so why risk using 3-in-1? I use an 1893 Singer, a 60's featherweight 222k, a 1954 Singer 201k, and my 'modern' machine is a 1971 Bernina 83- Record I purchased new, they all sew beautifully, and all get Singer oil, except the Bernina which get Bernina oil. Am awaiting arrival today of a Jaguar 489 (hence watching this, as it's my first overlocker). Always enjoy your very useful videos, and feel much better about complexities of overlockers since watching the video about timing, and now cleaning, thank you

Thanks for those vital information tips. But have you ever used the ORGAN NEEDLES? That's the Brand we have here now. It's working well with the BROTHER MACHINES AND OVERLOCKER.

What is the difference between the cheap Singer Overlocker/ Serger and the more expensive Serger like your brother in the background?
@AbisDen5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, I’ll demonstrate it in a video, but the singer, in this case, is much nicer. The brother only cost me £115 when it first came out, as it became popular it shot it in price. The brother is the same as the blue version which is sold directly from dealers in store, that costs even more. A good question, and yes, Lidl is now a global company.

I brush mine down inside after every use. It literally takes a minute! (I was always told to never use 3-in-1 though..🚫, only oil for sewing machines, don't remember why...).
@AbisDen4 жыл бұрын
2 2 if 3in1 oil isn’t suitable for sewing machines but is for other machines, why? It’s a sewing machine manufacturing scam... they want you to pay two / three times as much but it’s the same thing in the bottle despite what they tell you... but manufacturers might not be the ones to say it... it’ll be the sewing retailer

Hello will the Prym needles fit all overlock machines and sewing machines? Many thanks.
@AbisDen4 жыл бұрын
Overlock needles in general do fit all overlock machines. It’s just overlockers are slightly calibrated to work with regular sewing machine needles
@dorokrych81094 жыл бұрын
Thanks Abi! Do the needles with both symbols (Elx705 and 130/705 H) work with this overlock?
@AbisDen4 жыл бұрын
I’m going to be honest and I have no idea. I use any sewing machine needle to suit my fabric. So with chiffon I use 60 and with denim 90 or 100. As you can see I have much experience in many brands and models of all ages - I’ve yet to understand why so many needles and needle types. That’s one to investigate isn’t it?

ha ha….at first glance I thought it said "stitches" with a b instead of an s....oh my this should be interesting!..no, well ok. Still very informative and yeah I probably do need to clean my serger….although come to think of it I have been called the B word more than once, so appropriate I guess.
