Biggest difference is that US already had players in Europe. Dest, Jedi, balogun, musah, and the list continues. That is continuing with the US youth teams. Mexico can’t go toe to toe in this situation. Dual nat is a big advantage for USA.

A while back I lived in Mexico. Kids don’t play organized football as much as they used to. . futsal or rapido (court soccer) is more popular and easier to get into. It has hurt the game. The development leagues for pitch football are controlled by coaches and organizers who play politics and advance those players whose families have connections or family members who played professionally etc. that’s why you see so many “legacy” players in MX club teams and the national teams…children of former players. When I was living there baseball had a more open door approach for organized teams and finding talent than football. And you see how Mexican Baseball has progressed in the past two decades and football has digressed. They are simply NOT putting out young talent that can compete internationally and there much more options for sports for kids now in Mexico. Mexicans approach their love of “football” as a spectator sport…they don’t play the sport like they do in Other Latin American countries and Europe. They all love watching the game, but very few have played organized or competitive football.

One thing I notice Mexico got into a defensive posture once the Pulisic and Ochoa showdown happened in the early minutes of the game. Fear took over them and the US easily prevented them from getting any look around the final 3rd. Mexico try to press but to no avail as the US has better ball handlers and they control the tempo of the game, probing and putting Mexico defenders in risky positions, keeping them back as they play the ball back to Ochoa to relieve pressure and the US swarm their midfielders leaving Ochoa to take a bad swing and gift the ball right back to the US Richards or Tim Ream. This was the whole first half. Second half was no better as the US kept them pin back further with Gio closer to his playmaking ways, dribbling past the midfield, switch the line of attack side to side with Weah getting good looks, Pulisic too on the left resulting in the US second goal even with Mexico mostly in their 18 yard box. Mexico try to come back from 2-0 down but the US stood their ground and defended in unison, anticipating what Mexico would do. Lozano try to play Hero but he just doesn’t have the luck to get anything on target or score a goal on the US which he hasn’t been able to accomplish. Santi faking the penalty was the Nail in the coffin as his actions all but lower the morale of everyone who was trying their best to make a comeback.

And parents have to have connections to get them on an actual team that plays competitively Baseball is the exact opposite in how it’s structured and is little to no cost and are open to all kids. and we see how baseball has progressed in Mexico. Football is full of politics and the clubs that feed into the professional hierarchy are very expensive.

Seb almost got to the answer when he said Lazano's complaints could only be fixed by 2030, at the earliest. He was begging the question, what does Mexico do till then? The answer he didn't want to say is, nothing, there is nothing they can do. They will continue to struggle for years. There is no tactic or coach that can solve their fundamental systemic problems. LigaMX might be a better league, talent wise, than MLS. But MLS and the US academy system is better at getting players to Europe and that is what matters. If Mexico doesn't fix that, the rest is just conversation.

The USA has revolutionized it's team over the last few years. Now it really shows. It's not so much that Mexico is getting worse but more that the USA has gone to the next level. The US team used to be Great goalkeeping, bad defense. Pretty good midfield and other than Brian McBride - poor at forward. Now the team is solid in every postion. Huge improvement at defense and at Forward. This improvement puts the US a class ahead of the rest of concacaf and there is no going back. Concacaf will have to improve to catch up or the US will own concacaf from here on.

Always having some of the top teams in the u17 World Cup like they mentioned. But that development has taken a nose dive. To clarify for everyone, this guy is talking about Club America fans, not American fans of the USMNT. Henry Martin plays for Club America in Liga MX. That said... Gimenez hasn't been good in the El Tri kit, whether he's starting or subbing. He's averaging 1 goal every 300 minutes played for his national team, which is about the same as Martin.

Santi has 25 games for Mexico and has 4 goals, and only a handful of those games are games that he started. Majority of those games are game he comes off the bench either towards the end or with only 25-30 minutes left on the game. Henry Martin does not strike fear into opposition defenses like Santi does. There’s no reason for Martin to start

The 🇺🇸 USMNT has been playing better and better soccer ⚽️ they are fast very skillful, strong 💪 players physical strength. Youth leagues are ran by elitist snobs who promote players with family names or legacy players (sons or grand sons of former stars or players). It’s worse than the U.S. in that respect. Also the fastest and most athletic players play Futsal or Rapido (as it’s called in other countries…court soccer). That sport has been a major reason for the downfall of traditional football in Mexico. And I think I heard that more kids play Baseball and American football combined in Mexico than soccer. Baseball is huge and American football is growing, especially at the high school age level. . .

US Team plays in CONCACAF, one of if not the lowest confederation on earth. USA is just like USA, a low medium team with no expectations of winning the world cup in 2 years. What makes a soccer team great world class players, and US has none of those. That's thecreality. USA beat a weak team of Mexico. Do not foul yourself. We still have a million miles to go. This would take having many players in Europe, not only Premier League, but in European major leagues. This would also take a world class coach. We don't have a great tactician. It's simple. You have players that have money to get into the Mexican league even if the player sucks. It's all about the money to decide who plays. United States is still about the money but we're doing everything in a slow growth pace. United States has been planting the seeds for growth through the minor leagues, universities, and lower tiers (Middle and high School). A kid in the United States has the chance (small chance) but it's still a chance to shine their talents and get noticed. Also, our player base is a mixed bag of different racial backgrounds which helps because we have players whose parents were from Colombia, Brazil, etc that live in the United States. The passion and the drive is there in the United States with the belief that with a drive you can succeed and hopefully be noticed by the United States major League and national team. USA were the laughing stock in the 90s and people were ashamed to support the sport. Today, after 30 years USA has kept sprouting those seeds with structure and discipline while being laughed at. Well, whose laughing now Mexico. Mexico got cocky with the name and the money coming in but not USA is taking the spotlight and leaving Mexico behind. Hell, Canada and Jamaica are getting so much better as well. Mexico is stagnant and its about time that the bubble burst. Mexico needs to fix this shit and go through the embarrassment to learn from all this. Rebuild and fix the system.

Totally disagree with Mauricio here. Mexican players may not be the most talented but I bet many teams would be willing to give them a chance. There are two reasons why Mexican talent doesn’t make it to Europe, 1) they are way too expensive (ex. Chiquito Sanchez has a price tag of 12 million dollars, Luis Chavez had to buy his own contract) and 2) they all take a foreign seat. I bet that if they were free agents or they were given to opportunity to play in loan transfers, there would be a lot more playing in Europe

Mexico has to play us the way we always used to play them. We always used to play defensively, and take advantage of counterattacks. It wasn’t pretty, but we were able to grind out results against Mexico with inferior talent.

Would that alot of European clubs from the top 5 leagues are also owned by Americans have something to do with it? You MU, AC milan, Chelsea, Leeds, Fulham, precisely where alot of American players play at the moment. The American player gets an opportunity to play that the Mexican player doesn't. I refuse to believe its because we aren't good enough when it comes to talent. We just trashed Argentina 3-0 recently in the second game of a 2-series set of friendlies. A winning mentality, maybe, but we have just as much talent as the U.S, if not more, and probably always had. We've won things at the youth level and they haven't. Facts, not opinions. I hate this narrative that we aren't good enough. We certainly have talent. We don't have the will to make the sacrifice of giving up the good life of partying, and being with family to pursue higher success. That's what it is. Give us the mentality that U.S players have, and we'd still be dominating this region because as far as natural talent, we have it. Always did. Didnt we beat the U.S recently 3-1 too at the revelations cup??

Of the five teams you mentioned only 4 USMNT players play on those teams, 2 on AC Milan and 2 on Fulham. There are over 100 players spread throughout Europe not just on the US Owned teams. I think one thing that gets overlooked, has been getting the dual nationals like Musa, Balogun, and Robinson to join the US team. Those players born in the US and raised in Europe under their football culture has been huge for the US.

Their youth teams seem to look good then fizzle out. See the Olympic gold medal over Brazil and then their exit at the next WC. The mex system has hit its ceiling and without a major overhaul to identify talent or create youth talent it is stagnating as we currently see. To the US credit there has been an overhaul in the youth system for games vs training starting at u6 when I coached in PA. Having grass roots feeding the ODP and now academies so they are in lock step has helped grow the sport to new levels

If not, forget about it. England is good, but always overrated, just like Mex. Premier League is great, but English players are overrated more than any other players on earth. If you score a goal in Premier League as an English player, media say you're among the best on earth. Funny. That's the reason why England will only win the world cup at wembley stadium, when VAR will malfunction. And this will never happen. England just doesn't know how to win. Keane is overrated. Do you really take youth level friendlies seriously? Mexico didnt qualify for the U-20 World Cup nor Olympics. Of these kids, how many are starters or important players on their teams? A tiny spark doesnt make them good players. They are benchwarmers liga mx level players. USA crushed you with players trained in European leagues.put your feet on the ground, Liga MX players, young or old, will not make any difference.
