05 Eclipse having problems only when I press the accelerator down rapidly car begins to sputter and also at idle what’s to die once car is at operating temp.I have used a DMM to check voltage on TPS and is .5 volts reversed the ohms and pushed the butterfly open from 0-100% and went up from 0.7-2.34 at full throttle no spikes.But throws a p123 code for low voltage to TPS. Wondering if it’s false reading while car runs then when it’s operating ? Side note new battery new alternator new plugs also car runs at operating speed fine just no fast acceleration. Opinion please.

My 2000 dodge Dakota r/t was idling rough for the past year this morning it was like it paused every 10 seconds. Came all the way home and noticed the truck was pulling itself at 1k. Put in park it’s at 1500 and neutral is 1500. Could it be the?

My 2004 Honda Accord EX V6 had code P0223 tps issue. Another code for idle Unlearned. I replaced top left corner Accelerator (position or pedal) sensor. I am not sure if this is the same as the Throttle Position Sensor? But Accelrator position sensor did not fix the issue. My car is in LIMP mode. IT will not go beyond 2,000 RPM and 20 MPH. My liquids are good. I am now being told the entire throttle bottle with the motor aqugator might need replaced. Or is my Computer for car bad?

On my 2006 honda accord it just started to do it last week as soon as I reached 168,000 miles and I still get an acceleration response but it takes a while to accelerate and it sucks because I have a 5 speed manual transmission, I let go of the clutch in first gear then it accelerates, I'm also having the same problem with my 02 Honda accord (daily) and it's also a 5 speed manual I thought it was the clutch assembly failing but was told by a mechanic it wasn't the clutch assembly, it's a sensor.

My car hyundai accent MPH drop when driving, and not only the MPH but rather Everything on the cluster drop, temperature gauge, Fuel gauge, Acceleration gauge all drop at the same time and later goes back to normal , and break light will also turn on and go back. OK, now I'm more confused than ever. In all the F-150 forums, guys are claiming that changing the TPS eliminates the hard shift between First and Second gear in the E4OD automatic transmission. I'm not seeing how based on this video.

Hi. I've got a 2003 Montero Limited 3.8L. Twice so far (1,000 miles apart) mine has gone into a condition where it will not accelerate. It idles and starts fine, but will not go over 40mph on level road, and takes a long time to get to that speed (severel minutes). It will be fine one moment and then begin this malfunction in the middle of driving it, in town or on interstate. I do have a TPS sensor code (P2135) but also cam and crankshaft sensors codes. The timing system is fine and it doesn't jerk or do anything strange except refuse to accelerate. I can turn it off and after 20 minutes it will operate fine again. Is the the TPS sensor getting hot and then it fails?

thats called (limp mode) all these electronic controled cars have it. the computer sees a code and throws the car into limp mode to protect the engine. have it pro.scanned, fix whats throwing codes.

Hello and thank you for this video, I have a problem and searched everywhere but no luck. I have changed the vvt solenoid because I got an error code P1009 on my 05 Honda Accord and did not fix the rough idle. The car starts but the rpm’s are below 500 and when I press the gas it has weak power and eventually stalls and turns off. Any idea what else could it be?

Hi there, This could be anything from throttle body, air intake metering sensors, vacuum leaks even from evap system, any restrict in exhaust, crank sensor abt to fail, low fuel pressure either by filter or pump. if you don't have any other codes stored need to check all these areas one by one manually. Also if the vvt solenoid is not oem spec, could cause problems.

This may be what is wrong with my 2002 VW Passat 2.8 GLX wagon. When i am cruising between 30 and 40 with slight pressure on the pedal, the engine will start surging up and down only a few hundred RPM and when I hit the cruise control it stops instantly. So it can't be the transmission or torque converter. This makes sense if the throttle pedal is sending a bad signal to the ECM those bumps could be from the ECU pumping fuel to the engine when it doesn't need it. It's a rhythmic pulse too which would fit with injector cycling

Possibly look at the MAF sensor as well I have a 2000 Astra 1.8 that hiccups under acceleration, unsure what's doing it, but symptoms of both TPS + MAF sensor failure are present

@@thomaswilliams2780 yeah I can assure you it is the torque converter. The fluid is shot and that is causing the lockup solenoid to disengage when it's not supposed to. Changed both MAF and Acc Pedal still persists. Issue goes away when I engage cruise control, because the ECM is commanding the torque converter not the transmission fluid.

I just replaced the Mass flow air sensor on vw Passat and I reassembled the throttle and everything thing else, but I just noticed that the engine shakes a little bet. Do I need to connect to a computer and reajuste the airflow to the intake?

Hi there, if you reassembled the throttle body, could mess up the calibration and might need a recalibration. Also clean the map sensor too and the egr if equiped.

My 1993 F 150 started idling way to high ( no tach but probably 1400RPM ). I unplugged the TPS and the idle went to normal. I drove it around the block with it unhooked and it actually drove ok with it disconnected (?!). I take it that I need to replace the TPS but it seems crazy that it idles and accelerates pretty decent with it not hooked up.

A Bad tp sensor does increase idle rpm or random stall...but there are other reasons like chocked throttle body, vacuum leaks etc

Hi there, this can happen if the accelerator pedal sensor, throttle position sensor or the valve actuator. any one has an issue. Its a good idea to scan the vehicle to see the codes generated. So the particular device can be repaired.

Hi . Could this be affecting why my MPH falls randomly as I'm driving? I've replaced the instrument cluster and the inner speed sensor and inner speed sensor..I had a tune up done as well. And my rpm idle control valve replaced as well. It's just my speed drops to zero as I'm driving and I can't see what speed I'm going. I even replaced my catalytic converter..so looking for suggestions because no mechanic can figure why my speed doesn't match the computer and randomly falls to zero

Did you mean the vehicle speed sensor? Normally this happens when the vehicle speed sensor starts to fail or the wiring to the sensor or to the cluster has a damage.

Hello! (I apologize in advance for the long post) I drive a 2019 hyundai elantra SE, last year around june or july i was traveling for work. I was taking a 5 hour road trip and when i came to a stop after driving a couple hours my car wouldn’t accelerate when i tried to go again. I had to shut it off and turn it back on for it to go again. It didn’t happen again til a couple months later or only when i would take long road trips but over time it started happening more frequently. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago i got it scanned at auto zone and the camshaft position sensor code (B) came up. A week after that I came to a stop and it happened again but this time when i shut it off, it wouldn’t start back up. Someone gave me a jump but it didn’t run for long. I was stuck on the side of the road for a couple hours and then it finally started back up. I made it to my house but the whole way there, every red light i came to I literally had to put it in park and keep lightly pressing on the gas or it would do the same thing again. when i got home i tried starting it again and it was shaking and wouldn’t stay on without me pressing the gas. It sat for this past week and 3 days ago i got the camshaft position sensor and my brother put it in and still nothing. Had a mechanic come look at it and i he told me to take my battery to get charged and my brother put the sensor on the wrong one. Battery was bad so i bought a brand new one and put it in and had my brother fix the sensors and it still wont start. The engine is also shaking when i try to start it (will attatch a video below) my brother says it will only turn over when he is pressing the gas. (will also attatch a video of what it does when he is not pressing the gas) i sent the videos to the mechanic that looked at it and he said it sounds like the fuel pump is bad. He came and looked at it again, checked all the fuses, and fuel pump and said they are working fine and is convinced the tps is bad but no codes are coming up. Could this still be a bad tps?

Hi there, As theres no codes or anything from tps. You can use an obd scanner to check the applied throttle position reading and actual position recorded by the ecm. If its under calibration, you might want the old mechanic ways. Start from the air intake. Check the air filter, clean the maf n map sensors, clean throttle body and check if its moving according to the throttle given or just oscillating, check for vacuum leaks like loose hose, broken pipes etc...Next the ignition...check the spark plugs. Check the injectors pulses. Also if the crank position sensor is failing can give you such issues without any codes.

So I changed my TPS on my 92 civic during the freeze last year, didn’t calibrate it and tan it that way for every since. I’ve just neglected the issue (terrible I know). Changed it out again today and calibrated it, the constant revving by itself went away but it still makes the sound of a door stopper when I take off. Seems like it’s running on 3 cylinders instead of 4 until I hit around 3500 rpm. I haven’t checked my injectors yet or my spark plugs. Could this all be caused by a air leak where intake manifold attaches to engine…. And possibly a bad injector….

Does this always throw a code? Nothings showing on my 05 Expedition. I constantly have to give it gas to maintain highway speed. I can’t just simply put my foot on the pedal to maintain a steady rpm. Sometimes when I push the gas pedal, the speed INCREASES but the rpm stays the same..it’s so weird. Some people disconnect the blk. battery cable for 30+ minutes to remove power from the vehicle computers. Then after 100 miles (or a week) of driving have got back better gas mileage. However you will have to later put in favorite radio station numbers, so write them down first. Hope helps. Of course having enough tire air pressure (see maximum pressure printed on each tire & on driver door), replace air filter, pour fuel injector cleaner in gas tank sometimes, fuel injector leaking or one bad possibly. Have mechanic check wheel bearing spin.

Hi there, this could be a bad crank shaft sensor or ecm wiring fault. If the rpm guage has a diflection, its likely crank sensor. Also car tends to accelerate own its own. This is most likely to cause but there are other reasons too.

That is exactly the problem I'm having. The vehicle does not know which gear to shift to! It's sometimes it can't find second or it might find third. But I know I have a bad TPS because my check engine light is blinking all of the time. Before when I was driving the van, it would jump ahead of itself from first gear. But now it can not find second gear. I think if the TPS is bad, the ECM will not give the signal for the shift solenoid in the transmission to go into second gear.

2016 Kia Rio SE, replaced the fuel pump and filter. Still can not get up to 70 mph. Run fine without a load, runs pretty well at low speed, unable to punch it. Put the pedal to the floor and it bogs down. Will check the error code later today. Any suggestions besides shooting it?

Pls do scan the vehicle for error codes. This could be anything from, dirty air intake sensors, egr valve stuck open, cracks in intake air pipes or even bad pedal position sensor. Could check and rule out one by one.

Well, after failing Emission regs, removed my spark plugs to check the insides and found a load of unburned fuel on the pistons. So I replaced my sparkplugs, Cat, O2 sensors, used injection cleaner additives and still failing emissons, this is my last hope. Lol.

I just put a throttle body off a 4.0 Jeep onto my 2.5 alongside new 4 hole fuel injectors, a lot of people do it to their jeep but mine seems to not like it, backfires at times, stalls out when I try to accelerate sometimes. Could the TPS have gone out?

Possibly not. you may have to make sure the new throttle body is in calibration with old one. As tps is a component inside throttle body any malfuction in the body can affect the tp sensing. Also the new injectors could also be a problem if injection rates are not proper.

Hi there, unlike petrol heads, diesel doesnot depend on the throttle or major diesel cars dont have a throttle but has an ASV for smooth shut down and escape engine runways. Clean the air intake sensors, check the injectors for any fault. If the injector solenoid is heated especially when summer can loose its minor potential and cause jumping rpms. Also check and clean the crank angle sensor too.

Yes its a bit difficult to find sensor alone. Could search online if its available but specific on the part number.

If you have found the part, just that part must be replaced. You don't have to replace the complete assembly. You might need to calibrate the sensor with pedal angle thats ol.

I had a mechanic tell me my position sensor was bad on my lincoln once. I laughed at him. Told him to just put new tires on and I was rebuilding the carb next week. I also had to start it for him because of the carb.

Your videos are great. This is just an example of a vintage car being diagnosed with a modern car problem. I already knew the carburetor needed some work, had the parts, but had appointment for new tires. It did very much act like a bad sensor, but the car doesn't have any.

Update, I changed this and my car is still sluggish upon take-off, no check engine light, ran a computer through it and all is normal. RPM will go to 4k before shifting

Basic thing to check will be air filter and fuel filter. Second Fuel regulator and pump.

Mostly the throttle body cause unexpected stalls. but there are other reasons too. First step should be the throttle clean up.

Dumb question but is the throttel position sensor part of the transmission? I'm a young kid learing so info would be great.

Hi there, nothin here's dumb. TPS is not a part of transmission. Its an air metering valve and sits on the air intake side of the engine. In some cases, a non performing TPsensor can affect the shifting in auto transmission thats ol.

@@autoinfogroup1629 so my grandpa has a diesel truck. It's been having problems where if you stop at light or stop sign, it doesn't want to accelerate. You have to push the gas all the way down to go. He took it to auto tire because he has a friend there that said he would look at it. They said that it's the transmission but they didn't tell us anything else. Could a bad Throttel position sensor cause a transmission issue or something.

Here two things to look after, if the car rpm goes high but wont move unless it gets to peak rpm, then the transmission should be at fault. If there's no rpm or the vehicle idles unless its pressed hard to rev up, then the throttle sensor could be at fault. Do check the transmission fluid too.

@@autoinfogroup1629 hello again. The truck just got a brand new transmission. But after an hour of driving it...the same issue happend. It wouldn't move at all. I was at a red light pushing the gas peddle but it wouldn't move one bit. The rpm would high and it wouldn't even move. I'm at a loss of words right now. My friend at ford is gonna have another look at it.

I'm facing a similar problem in my my 2011 Ford Figo. While driving the car acceleration stops and pressing the pedal had no effect. Happened thrice in last 2 weeks. I managed to stop the vehicle to the side of the road. The engine didn't stall ,but was idling in all three times. After few engine restarts I managed get the pedal working. Is this sign of failing tps sensor? (When this was about to happen I also noticed the car jerked when I take my foot off the accelerator pedal which was strange. After restart this symptom went away).

@@drewp132 No. Rpms are usual and not varying. I'm able to shift too. The only thing happens is when this issue occurs randomly the vehicle sort of goes into limp mode and engine idles. Pressing the pedal had no effects.

My car runs normal but when run for some hours without stopping the speed begun to reduce and MPH, Acceleration, temperature, Fuel gauge will drop down as if car is dead and go up to its normal position, but car keep moving the break packing light will also come ON and go. Speed will begin to reduce. And car seems too loose power. When turn ON Air conditioning it happens more frequently. Look like my car is not getting enough power to the engine.

If you dont have a check engine light...should start with air intake...replace the filter if too old, clean the air intake sensors, check for vacuum leak, clean throttle body, next fuel related.change filter, check pressure etc...these are preventives and should be done anyway...if these wont give anything, should deal with the ignition devices.

Can happen though. A failing injector or ignition device too can cause the same issues. Do clean the throttle body and air intake sensors, replace the filters if too old.

Hi, I'm having similar problems with my 99 Honda civic ek 3. I've changed the cold start sensor, clean the map sensor and clean the throttle body and I'm still experiencing rough idle and stalls. In order to keep the engine running i have to gas it up.. any advice that would lead to some sort of solution would mean the world. 🙏

Rough idle and stall could be off failing spark plugs, ignition coils etc also a vacuum leak cause similar issues. Check the ignition control devices and intake side.

Ok everyone is not getting it my throttle body has a sensor attached to the side of it .. My car is a volks wagon .. the sensor is a box about 4x3.5 inches it clips to the side of throttle body .. I want to know if anybody has ever took one off and cleaned it and did it solve the problem .. my cars is a 2008 Jetta with a 2.5 non turbo engine . The sensor is VERY HARD TO GET … tried EVERY AUTO PARTS half them don’t know their head from their ass . What does how many doors and bucket seats have to do with the sensor 😝I can get the throttle body and sensor together ( not separate )

My issue now is that, my rpm always stay low even close to 0, I've spent lot on it for cleaning of injector, changing of plug, and all but still the same at idle, just watching this content now, I don't know if this could be the issue and I'm also scare of changing it and not be the issue, I would be wasting money buying it again, pls what should I do

Hi there, if your car idles less than 500 rpm it stalls. Make sure your rpm meter is showing correct readings. Some meters shows calibration issues and shows less rpm but the engine runs good. If this is not the issue... most low reving n stalling happens because of failing TPS or Idle controler or even throttle valve actuator.

I have 2009 toyota camry, whenever I’m coming to a low speed, like 20 the rpm will drop for 1-2 seconds and go back up right away without stalling. Seems like throttle body is trying to close but opens up right away

May be its the throttle body or may be it the transmission slipping to neutral. Should check on that too.

@@vgreen1106 mine turned out to be the MAP sensor..cleaned it out using aerosol acid flux degreaser (that's just what I had available but you can buy special MAP cleaner)

This wont make the brakes harder nor throttle. Only power and running characteristics of the car is altered.

I’ve got an ‘08 Jeep Liberty 3.7. It’s thrown P0175, P0113, and P0123. Very rough idle- won’t stay running without pressing accelerator. Not drivable. Smell gas in vacuum and dipstick. Long term and short term fuel trims are very negative. MAP reads normal atmospheric pressure when engine is off. I’ve cleaned throttle body and changed plugs.

Hi this could be a dirty air or fuel filters, dirty air intake sensors or valves. Try cleaning the air intake sensors, throttle body and change the air n fuel filters if too old. These are some preventive measures and should be done first before anything.

Its not a specific code for specific part. This can be associated with a fault in, tps, pedal potentiometer, throttle body motor or even a fault in wiring. Should go through each one.

Hi there, actually major all the sensors in a car can exhibit similar symptoms. So if you have got a particular code, fix that immediately. Oxygen sensors n tps can give you similar symptoms.
