As the car market its just so crazy right now in my opinion its totally worth to put that kind of money into that truck , and of course because its a Toyota 😊 Love your videos Peter

Great video!! Thanks for the detail and showing things so clearly. I own a ‘97 4Runner with 270k miles. So far so good. $1100 is still better than a new car:)

It needed a 30 min labor fix. Screw IN and tighten the rack pre load screw to fix this play. He mid diagnosed this one badly.

Very simple , screw in the pre load screw and all that play will be gone. She hit a curb and it caused torque in the rack pushing the pre load screw up and back. Don’t rip her off with a new rack just tighten the pre load screw and put some more grease it it while you are at it . I just fixed my 2007 fj cruiser same exact issue, after I hit a big curb . Take the lower contorl arm nut off the lower control arm outter ball joint and use it as a socket in the rack pre loader screw. Works perfectly as this tool in a pinch

Another sweet and spicy Taco. Love it. I see that new light is serving you well. My last 2004 Prerunner had a knock going around corners and certain bumps. My mechanic couldn't find the issue. Now I'm thinking this was probably the issue

Scotty Kilmer would say drive it till the wheels fall off. But if it were mine I'd go with the remanufactured rack although I did see a new one at an online Tampa dealer for $525 and outer tie rod ends for $46 each.

I love watching your videos on Toyotas. Especially the Trucks! I've been a Toyota driver since a teenager and now I'm 52. Currently I have a 06 Tundra. This may be a little unusual but I am hoping you can point me to the exact location of the brake booster plug in on drivers kick panel. I have a prodigy gen2 booster and the plug is 2 lg. and 2 sm. blade style. The smaller blades have one of the places missing or not needed, not sure which. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all you do.👍

Thanks for the video I have a problem with mine right now a 2005 Toyota Sequoia SR5 2 wheel drive and it has play side to side sounds like like that whenever I hit a bump which is a shame cuz I truly love this vehicle but it's cheaper than buying another vehicle
@billsimpson6042 жыл бұрын
That vehicle must have been driven on some rough roads a LOT to wear that out that much. I would go with the reman, if it has a lifetime limited warranty.

Mis diagnosed . It’s a pre load rack adjustment screw all she needed tightened up

Depending on how old the vehicle is, and how rare that problem is, I'd be inclined to try the breakers yard option here personally 👍

Tires appear oversize. The fender well front splash guard seems to be missing to allow for oversize tires. Might want to look for a beefier rack and pinion. The Toyota Steering Rack Upgrade is the perfect solution. The factory Tacoma rack and pinion is prone failure with heavy off-roading. As most people run 35″- 40″ tires the stock rack and pinion is the weakest link.

that is a very good observation!

Great diagnostic Peter! Now in my 2007 Tundra, 5.7, 193k miles when I turn to right or left as the wheel gets past half way the steering wheel will move somewhat abruptly in that direction of turn. In slow turns, doesn't seem like any play as I drive down the road. Anyway, any thoughts?

it could be just the worn 25yr old bushings on my rig but IDK!

I put aftermarket rack on my 01 Tundra steers much harder very tight front end now from Rock Auto

Depending on your labor cost, that really isn't that bad. Still cheaper than buying a new car being that the mileage is fairly low.

Peter, have you seen a doctor recently? I'm sorry to ask such a personal question. Your face is extremely red and this might indicate a problem with your heart (my father's face looked very similar before he had a fatal heart attack without any other warning). Please see a doctor about this if you haven't had a recent annual exam. Stay well, we need you healthy.

you will then have to ask the WHY is this taco in the junkyard, there are more-or-less zero taco in salvage lots where i am at for many years now, they occasionally have one or two but they get picked apart from vultures LOL

Thorough & knows Toyota s.very honest obviously so ..suppose he had done original job/parts/quote & then found the banging . How would that have gone.?.
@lonesomecricket77212 жыл бұрын
That a a real bummer 😫 But it’s fixable. P.S. would that have been the reason the tires 🛞 started to wear in such a bad way?
@billsimpson6042 жыл бұрын
Probably, but there are several things that can cause strange tire wear. Still, that should be fixed because you never know what is happening inside there. Should it come apart it, would be life threatening.

@@jimgordon2399 yes i know how you mean! my '97 taco developed a bad front wheel bearing, dealer wanted 1400$ to fix (i thought that was a bit much) so i found an off-road jeep shop that wanted 700$ they replaced with a china-made bearing that failed VERY bad within 4 months, wheel was wobble wobble all over the place, took them an OEM Toyota bearing i bot at the online genuine dealer with the 30% off MSRP in Iowa and had this jeep shop redo it , it took them only 90 minutes but I still have a small wobble (not as bad as before) up and down in that wheel. I watched a ToyotaTime with Timmy the Toolman session on wheel bearing replacement to confidently DIY with a new OEM bearing, hub AND a new 500$ knuckle in the event this shop wasted the knuckle that some Toyota tech in Texas said may have very well happened if they did not do press work proper. They also destroyed the UCA with their hammer dislocating the UBJ and sprung a grease leak on the outer tie rod with same impact hammer instead of using the proper pitmall puller tool to separate those from the knuckle. they probably did not torque the axle properly the first time is why the china-made bearing wasted within such a short period but IDK i failed out of mechanic school a long time ago LOL
