5:55 Yes, bicycles are counted as vehicles, just not motor vehicles. The plain red circle sign that means "no vehicles" includes them; the "no motor vehicles" sign with the motorbike and the car on it does not.
@jjharson7344
@jjharson7344 2 ай бұрын
Red circles generally give a mandatory instruction, such as speed limits. The blank sign with a red border means that all vehicles are prohibited except for pedal cycles, which must be pushed by pedestrians. so in essence you are 100% correct! as they cannot ride in these areas only walk and push or walk and carry!

Back in the 70's at school. We done a cycle profiancy course. Around the playground after school. Then out on the main road after. Learning how to ride with other vehicles on the road. Then got a document to say we passed. Now 45 years later. I still do what I was instructed. And it keeps me safe. I wonder how many lycra shorts know there ways to a positive progression on the public roads.

Must admit that I have some sympathy with the Audi driver initially. The hedges were obstructing her view of the main road - at 8:08 the camera car would not be visible - at this point the camera can’t see the Audi driver, so the camera car isn’t visible to the Audi driver either. She was doing as we’re taught to do, edge out very slowly until we can see both ways, slowly enough that vehicles coming along the main road will become aware without it becoming a hazard. To do this she had to cross the give-way line. The camera car should have spotted the potential hazard earlier and slowed down sooner, rather than just adopting an “ it’s my right of way” approach. The Audi driver’s subsequent reaction is totally unacceptable, though. Both drivers are therefore at fault to some degree.

In answer to your question at 5:49 I would class them as "Road Users" and quote from the latest edition of the Highway Code under "Rules for Cyclists" Rule 69 says " You MUST obey all traffic signs and traffic light signals". Traffic signs, therefore, include speed limit signs, give way signs and traffic priority signs. This is my opinion but I defy anyone to contradict it. Keep the videos coming Tony I love them.
@ditch3827
@ditch3827 2 ай бұрын
And you would be wrong. Pedestrians are road users and only have to obey "Pedestrians prohibited" and "level crossing" signs. You only have to obey traffic signs that are relevant to your particular vehicle. Car drivers don't have to obey signs restricting HGVs as they only apply to HGVs. Cyclists do not have to obey speed limit signs as they only apply to motor vehicles.

7:35 - Audi / BMW's don't come with indicators. It's a peasant notifier. It tells the peasants they need to make allowances for them. For example, an Audi driver wishing to turn right from a junction will use this flashing amber notifier to tell the peasants to make way for them, as they are too important to wait.

Thanks for the anthropology lesson. I’ve often wondered where food delivery drivers were classified in the development of man over the eons. I did know where Audi drivers are classified, there are many on the Jurassic Coast. We have one local professional driver who has just got a brand new white Audi. With recent hot weather he lost the use of his right arm and had to hang it out of the window. Funny, he could use it lifted above the roof line to wave drivers out of a side turning [just so he could cut the corner]. Then returning minutes later from the side road he swung out over the centre line [doing the rally-style left turn] sadly cutting up the kerb - all with his right arm hanging out the window. How cool is that?

Reading some of your comments reminded me that many many years ago when I was at high school, all the kids were giving a talk about road safety, bike maintenance - have brakes and lights - and road rules. Didn't happen for our children and grandchildren. Same with motorcycle, got taught to ride on the right hand (hated that being an old "leftie") of the drip strip so motorists woouldn't push you off the road. No wonder the roads are very unsafe. Cheers Tony you must a good bloke having the same name as me.

They called it that because it could roll down a hill and canardly get up the other side🤣🤣 I also had an old Peugeot, a model from the 1970s and it had a really low exhaust bracket that for some reason was only an inch or so off the ground, design flaw or feature??? PS The rolls joke was from Jimmy Tarbuck in about 1980 but I think a lot of comedians have used it...

The last clip, with the 1950s US pick-up; I would really like to know what the legal situation is with those original US numberplates; there are a few "ratted" old US pickups around here, and all sport US plates, but no UK plates - which I thought was a legal requirement for ANY car imported to the UK, or staying for longer than 6 months.

I would say it must be OK, because the Police havent done anything for the 2+ years it has been there - but the local Police do fuck all about illegal plates; we have a family driving around with black and silver plates for 20 years, on generation after generation of Land Rover Freelanders and Audi Allroad estate cars.

@@andrewrogers4341 I think that is caused by the classic car registration supposedly being set to 40 years- originally that meant they would have black and silver plates; however the various governments never kept amending the rules, so it was more than 10 years later before post black and silver plated cars became "classic". One cycle should have waited for you to clear that area but I’m not sure they were both at fault with the other car…… I guess you could say that they should of been looking ahead and should of anticipated the dark car.

1:41 I mean... if you really squint, you can almost see a vehicle with 2 wheels and a handle bar like the road marking. The thing which gives it away for me as not being a bike is that it stayed at the red light until it went green.

Im going to guess you have an LDC sticker at the back of your car, bus driver saw it and the rear camera, flashed his lights to get him/herself on youtube.

The petrol head cars were, I think: Chevy Nova; Austin 7 and a Ford Edsel Ranger.

Just thought I would say, the cyclist that invaded hash markings at 5.15, was very wrong to do that but he was doing what is done when a group are sharing headwinds. After a while, another will move to front of pace group and take the hit of headwind to help others have an easier ride. I am still sorry to say he was bad at awareness as I did not see a rear check before he moved and was wrongly positioned by breaking HC. For the petrol head moment at end, I think the 2nd car by bollards maybe an Austin 7. Diddy little car, known as "the Baby" circa 1923 to 39.

With the Audi on the Mad Mile, you quite sound like you are calling a horse race!! Love it! Since the speed limit is 60 and he never got there, could you legally undertake since you were never in the right lane? In the USA, bicycles are classed as a vehicle and are to obey all traffic laws, just like cars. #1 petrol head is a Chevy SS about 1969...the car of my high school days - beauty!! #3 looks like a Ford El Ranchero from the 1950s. When Chevy came out in the early 1960s with their El Camino, Ford dropped the "El" from the name. They are like a car in front and a truck in the back.

2:44 Why on earth just sit there in the left hand lane? Just because there’s a slow driver in the outside lane, doesn’t mean you have to stay behind him. Continuing on your journey, in your lane and not exceeding the speed limit, is not an overtake manoeuvre.

Exactly, I would have just got up to the speed limit in lane 1 as it's clear the Audi isn't going to move over.

The "outside lane owners club," as I call them, are so annoying. My 7 speed automatic AUDI, yes an Audi, is stuck in 3rd gear at 20mph.

On the first one, it is legal for a car to be in that cycle zone, so long as the don't enter when the light is red.

6:40. Bicycles are vehicles, but I am not convinced by the concept that the bicycles had to give way. The car was not on an established route through that junction, it was not the car that needed to change its course or direction, it would have been the bicycles. In other words, the bicycles had right of way because they were on the major road, which over-rides the sign. Or maybe it doesn't? This is a case of a crap British road junction, and people having to bodge up some way to deal with it. All road users seemed to do reasonable things, IMHO.

Why do people put P plates on cars? Either you passed your driving test or you didn’t.

In Australia, a P driver is a newly licenced driver, 2 colours, in Victorian law , red with white and then green , about 3 years altogether, then full licence. They have restrictions on number of passengers and zero alcohol.
