I'm 66 years old and passed my motorcycle test in 1975, and car test in 1977. When I was under instruction, I was told that if you pulled out into lane 2 or 3, and failed to pass the vehicle in front, within 30 seconds, or half a mile, you were leaving yourself open to a charge of "Driving without consideration towards other road users". This was a useful "catch all" offence, that included splashing pedestrians or cyclists by driving through a puddle, or holding up other drivers by taking too long over a parking or turning manoeuvre. It should be brought back! This week I had two drivers performing 3 point turns in front of me 20 yards apart!

As a former LGV Driver i wish drivers could read the road as well as you have. If I was driving the truck and i knew the corner well i would have positioned in the road to block lane 1 and 2 so i had the entire corner to myself. Some times you have to be a bit selfish because it`s the only way to keep Audi drivers safe.

The people lane hogging are just people who have this massive sense of entitlement and who consider themselves better than everyone else. They also have very little idea as to what the highway code says and think lane 1 is for lorries only. I wish we had more police doing some policing so these people could get a ticket or 2, that's edumicational!!

You took me back on some roads I had travelled many years ago. Beddington Lane for one, I used to go to Tulse Hill to pick up my daughter and Beddington Lane was my route to go home. Did you go to see the Chimneys come down in 1991 to make way for the Ikea site? I/we were there to see it. Then you pulled into Gatwick airport. I drove down there with some mates for a coffee and run out on Sunday August 7th the night after Brian London's fight with Cassius Clay. London was flying out to nurse his bruises; he did look a bit worse for wear. One of my mates saw London and said "Crap, no wonder he's got dark glasses on, Clay beat the living s**t out of him last night. One of London's minders must have heard him and this man mountain walked over and said "if you lot don't shut up I'll give you what Clay gave him and some. We decided that a nice quiet cup of coffee would end the evening... hahaha. There were no parking restrictions at all. I can't remember if departures were up the ramp or down, but sure as hell no £6 to pull up there.

I worked at Gatwick Airport for a while on a hangar construction job. There was no internal bus service but we always had to attend meetings at the airport offices at the north terminal so we would get somebody to drop us off and pick us up. That will now cost £12 a meeting. And clients wonder why contractor's costs go up. And on the subject of using public tranport, I got fed up with a 60 mile commute around the M25 so I took the train changing in central London but the there was the problem of getting from Gatwick Station to the site. I got on the idea of using the shuttle bus to the long stay car park and then there was a 400 yard walk. Well that lasted about a week until the jobsworth wouldn't let me on the bus. The bus by the way was invariabley empty anyway. So sod it I went back to a 120 mile daily commute and stuff the environment.

Talking about wrong roadsignes: Have you driven north along Wellesley Road, Croydon in the last few years? (Yes, of course you have). But have you ever spotted the signs and green arrows on the traffic lights at the junction with Poplar Walk? They indicate you can turn left. What they don't show as that Poplar Walk is a one way street - eastbound. But in all the years I've been to Croydon there's never been a 'no entry' sign at the exit to Poplar Walk itself. The arrows show you can turn sharp left, when actually you can only turn diagonally left (down St Michael's Road). Woe betide anyone who is a stranger to the town.

Under Australian road laws, it is illegal to overtake a turning truck even if you have your own lane. The trucks also have this displayed on the back of the truck but the majority of Australian drivers don't abide by this law and get a major shock if they are involved in an accident where they overtook a turning truck, they have to pay for their own damage aswell as any damage to the truck along with any loss of Income to the truck driver and any damage to their load. Because the accident is classified as their fault, their insurance company can choose not to pay, so they must pay out of their own pocket, so overtaking a turning truck can cost your house and everything you own.

Am I right in remembering that, in the 70's, 80's, sometime, there was a government policy advocated on motorways that the left hand lane was for vehicles upto 40+ mph, the middle for 50/60 mph, and the outer lane for over 60mph? I would think not - I think it is just what people thought and folk lore about it got around. It does not matter what speed you are doing. Lane 1 is for driving. And lanes 2 and 3 and 4 (if there is one) is for overtaking. If the lane to your left is clear then move over. If you can mover to a lane for at least 10 seconds then you should do so. That last bit is purely the way I drive and is not backed up specifically in the highway code.

5:50 I could be wrong, but I don’t think the middle lane counts as a take over lane. The middle lane is usually the neutral lane, and you still have the far right (far left in U.S.) to overtake. If it had 4 lanes then the two right lanes would be slower traffic and the two left lanes for faster passing vehicles. So, I don’t agree that the truck was lane hogging.

Yes, you are wrong - to be exact. The correct way of thinking is that lane 1 is the driving lane. All other lanes are for overtaking. If lanes 1 and 2 are busy then obviously you would have to use lane 3 (assuming a three lane motorway) to overtake. And once lane 2 was clear then you would go back to lane 2. And similarly one lane 1 is clear then you would go into lane 1. If only the roads were empty enough to do this easily!! And never, ever refer to lanes as fast or slow lanes. You simply call them lanes 1,2 and 3 etc.

I have a question for you Tony or anyone who else who can answer my question in regards to your UK traffic laws, please. I follow this channel and enjoy watching as well as learning about the differences in traffic/driving in the USA vs UK. My question is: Have your cars always required stickers for different levels of drivers, ie; learner, permit, professional, etc? Here in the states we don’t have stickers displayed on our vehicles, just drivers licenses that show what level driver we are: permit, licensed, LCL, & non-driver license form ID. Also, some states require both front and back license plates, and some (like my state of Tennessee), only the rear for a license plate. Thanks to any that can answer my question! Cheers ya’ll! 😊

Vehicle registration plates required on front and rear of vehicles (only on the back for a motorbike or motor-scooter). Learner 'L' plates (a red 'L' on a white square) have to be displayed if a learner driver is in control of the vehicle, and they must be accompanied by an appropriately qualified driver, be it a formally qualified instructor or just dad/mum supervising them. 'P' plates are not mandatory. The 'professional driver' sticker thing isn't mandated by the highway code, but by the local Authority. So the rules vary from city to city.

Simple answer... Learners must display an 'L' plate but displaying a 'P' plate signifying a driver who has recently passed their driving test is optional. I had 'P's on my car after my wife passed but it seemed to attract numpties desperate to get in front of me. Cabbies - of black black cabs (who can pick up fares [customers] who hail them from the side of the road), or of mini-cabs (pre-book only like Uber or local firms) - need to have a license from the local district council or governing body, and display that license. These usually take the form of a plate shown on the rear and/or stickers like the ones mentioned by Tony.

Lane 1 is the driving lane and all other lanes are for overtaking. The police as well would pull you up if you used that terminology.

It's not illegal. It is just recommended that you do not - rule 201. For it to be illegal it must have a MUST NOT in the Highway Code.

17:12 you say "this sign is ... just wrong" and at 17:39 you show the sign on the floor/ground. This is not a legal sign in the same way that the overhead gantry sign in blue is later on. It is purely informational saying that this road leads you to the M25. The legally correct sign is shown at 17:50 with white lettering on a blue background telling you that you are on the M23 and the M25 is in brackets meaning that the M23 will lead you to the M25.

@@thelondondashcam Firstly - don't have a go at the workforce - they just do what they are told to paint - blame the highways authority. Secondly - it is very worrying that you as a professional driver/a driver who is paid to do so, does not understand the difference between legal road signs for motorways (white on blue background) and pure information (lettering on the ground). You made the same mistake in the road markings by 'that roundabout' in a recent video. You said it was a 20 limit because it said so on the ground but that was not a legally enforceable sign - there was a circular sign on a pole with a red edging that is legal and gave the limit as 30.

You can't complain about people not observing signs when you ignore double yellow lines which mean no stopping. Not even for drop off . Somebody behind you is probably camping you getting mad and calling you a numpty. You need to chill !

please stop complaining about bike lanes. more lanes does not and will never help traffic. look up induced demand. cyclists are mums, dads, children, workers, enthusiasts and everyone in-between.

The issue is though the amount of money spent on something that's barely ever used. In the part of making the lanes wider, even if it stayed as 2 lanes (1 for each way) then means buses/hgvs aren't as close to the center line and make it safer for everyone

it temporarily relives the symptoms without addressing the root causes (lack of alternative routes, mismatch of capacities at junctions, too many traffic flows sharing the same route) also, no civil engineer worth their salt takes the term "induced demand" seriously

You're making the wrong argument. Creating cycle lanes is supposed to encourage more cycle use. Now, if we hadn't, for the past 40 years, been encouraged to do a week's worth of shopping in hypermarkets where we can't get our shopping home on public transport, perhaps there would be less pressure to own a vehicle.
