also I dont remeber if was part of the deck or was in packs around the same time, there was this little pyro monster with 100 atk wich could attack directly and, after each of those attack, it gained 1000 atk. Despite me playing "better" decks (dragon stuctured, water stuctured, etc), this deck could still destroy me. Especially my giving me that fire monster which you summon to the opponent field and deals 1000 damage (still, not sure was in the structured, but it was around the same time). I had nothing to remove it, and baseball kid and pyro little thing ended me

Jaime L I was just thinking about that - if a lot of the cards focus on using FIRE monsters in the GY, then Meteor of Destruction could have asked the player to send a FIRE monster from the field to the GY as a requirement so it can be used at any point and do some set up as well.

Jaime L That's very true. It would be great to see some of these decks revisited, so here itd be "Blaze of Destruction DX". I think another good step in making this deck good would be to make a "Blaze of Destruction" archtype, so they can have specific searching effects and cards, and in general get a revamp in how they play. Here's one I thought of this morning: make it so the boss monster removes from play FIRE monsters like before (up to 5), allowing you to destroy any card (incl. your own) and burn your opponent for 300LP for each card destroyed that way.

Fury from the Deep is actually not that bad, mostly because Legendary Ocean and a lot of reasonably strong Level 5s was plenty back then, and it had a natural counter to Gravity Bind/LLAB. Boss monster was pretty much unsummonable, but if you pulled it off, it was basically a win condition.

Actually, you would need to use DNA Transplant to change everything to FIRE Attribute. Baseball Kid's effect does not go by type. Also, it would be pretty scary if you threw Scapegoat in with this combo too. Could be looking at 7500 ATK easy.

The second effect of Ultimate Baseball Kid is not bad. If you have 2/3 monsters next to him, attack first, you can potentially end with 1500/2000 damage on its effect, which is also allowed to send himself.

As this review covers pretty well, Blaze of Destruction had very little to recommend it. The only notable card in it that wasn't mentioned in the review was the single copy of Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch. There were some other cards in the deck that were considered generically useful at the time, but almost all of them were also in Fury from the Deep and/or in at least one of the previous pair of structure decks (Dragon's Roar and Zombie Madness, released four months prior to Blaze of Destruction and Fury from the Deep).

Ultimate Baseball Kid is sort of like an old Yugioh version of Gagaga Cowboy. I think it was just a bonus, but it did work casually. Gaia pierces (keep that in mind). Sometimes you'd 4k against a Goat, and for the standards of back then, mid/late game you could end things right there, or Tribute Gaia for Baseball Kid's effect (or let it get blown up for Backfire's burn). Baseball kid's real best case scenario is better than that actually, usually a 2500 ATK Normal Summon under Solar Dragon lock, and 3k if you have the Field Spell. Best case scenario you'd have 3 Solar Flares lock and another Kid (+field) for two 5k ATK beaters (more than most deck bosses of the time.) Solar Flame can be setup with drawing into 1 of them and UFO searching into the other. You didn't mention Backfire that burned the opponent 500 every time a FIRE got destroyed, and that added up quickly (for back then's standards anyways). Though yeah, the deck had some bad fodder and the boss was a bad card, and so is Inferno, though there's Thing in the Crater for Special Summoning from hand, and the vanilla beaters were pretty solid for the age. Firefox seems random, but I bet it was meant to combo with a card from those days (Spirit Barrier for 0 damage) so you can keep Backfire burning the opponent without having to reload the field (mostly an annoying little combo, also viable with UFO crashing). Finally, these new KZbin text boxes that only show me 1 line of text at a time when I try to post suck (unrelated, I know).

All great points. Just to add to this Backfire worked whether your Fire monster was destroyed by battle or card effect. Meaning even if your opponent was using common monster removal (Mirror Force, Dark Hole, etc.) they were still taking damage unless they got rid of Backfire itself. A Pretty annoyingly effective combo, really.

It's worth noting that at the time this deck released Fox Fire still had its original card effect that didn't include the part about needing to be face up at the start of the battle phase to activate the effect. The part was added later on and a lot of tournaments will still allow the use of the original version of the card to be special summoned from the graveyard after being destroyed face down.

Nowadays, you can keep Gaia Soul on the field with cards that grant immunity to effect destruction, and the way it's own effect is worded, the ATK increase is permanent as long as it's face-up on the field, unless it was errata'd in the same way as Limiter Removal.

This Structure felt simpler and more direct to pilot though. WATER is my favorite, but more often than not, I'd get more mileage out of this Structure than the WATER one and head to head, the FIRE one had a decent chance since a) the FIRE Structure was largely unaffected by Gravity Bind/Level Limit Area B (two of the better aspects of the WATER Deck) and b) the normal FIRE monsters happened to often be big enough to be stronger than the low level WATERs even alongside their field spell while the burn ones (that you usually wanted destroyed) happened to be small enough to be destroyed on purpose without taking too much damage. The WATER Deck clearly had a better boss and a cooler theme that holds up better, but I can't say that the FIRE Deck was bad by any means.

this structure deck is not completely terrible,if you remove several cards and replace them with other cards you can be pretty powerful,i had a hybrid between this and other water type structure deck,the card dna transplant was kinda useful since there were 2 field spell cards there(the legendary ocean and molten destruction.). if you combine inferno with a card that increases his attack,like metalmorph or mage power he can be pretty badass. also an awesome combo was to play the ultimate baseball kid,have 4 other monsters in your field(tokens of scapegoat work as well)and then activate dna transplant,an instant 4500 attack monster.5000 if you have molten destruction on.

So, have you considered UFO turtle -> Baseball kid, summon Gaia, swing with both, then bat Gaia for 500? Ideally you have twin solar flares already, so that would be a decent field left. Not saying there's nothing better, but it also sets up the boss and makes the self-sacrifice of Gaia irrelevant.

Funnily enough, I do have real life experience with the "if you and a buddy of yours played with this and Fury of the Deep" hypothetical, because my brother had this deck and I had Fury. I think at least in the early months, before we started to actually modify them, he won more games than me, probably mostly because Baseball Kid and Raging Flame Sprite are both lvl 3 and not affected by gravity bind (And also Solar Flare Dragon doesn't need to attack to do its job). So all it took for him to win back then was to kinda get Baseball Kid going, probably with Solar Flare Dragon, which burns LP, can't be attacked AND boosts Baseball Kid, and my Monsters couldn't match up. And my best defense, Tornado Wall, didn't do shit against burn effects. I haven't played in decades (I don't even know how Synchro Summons work) and I fully believe that this deck is and was awful, but specifically against Fury from the Deep, it actually did work pretty well.

Funny story, back in the day I didn't know English well enough to understand Gaia Soul, which meant my casual play on elementary school meant summoning this guy, remove fire monsters from my hand and cause a lot of damage in one turn and then let it self destroy because for some bizarre reason I believed it caused damage equal to its attack at the end of the turn. The deck also has 2 stall cards, which btw was a really big deal because they were actually in the limited list for a time. Combine with direct attackers, namely the raging flame sprite, and you have something going on. Still not the best deck, takes a while to set up too.

A fact about molten destruction is that in Italian was called "Distro-fusione" and for this all the effect consisting in searching a "fusion" ("fusione" in Italian") spell card had to specify that you can't search this card. Until they realized no one would do that.

That whole scenario where two friends bought the Fire and Water structure legitimately happened in our case, but whether it was because I used the structure to upgrade my already built fire deck or just that we were casual players, my friend couldn't beat me. Like the video stated, UB Kid and Solar Flare where so good. I don't remember if the deck came with them, but you can't forget Level Limit Area B ( & A) with Raging Flame Sprite. I had the Horus level monsters too, since Horus lvl 6 was unaffected by Spell cards.

Still rocked so many people with the cards from the deck thanks to solar flare dragon including the fury of the deep that my friend used. Obviously didn't bother to use the big monsters but along with raging flame sprite it was rather easy to burn people out of LP. Just replaced the bad cards with good cards. UFO turtle is a great search to get the solar flare dragons out reliably.

Love how you completely skipped over Backfire, Lvl Limit Area B and Raging Flame Sprite. I honestly think you seriously underestimate just how useful this Structure really was and how great it is after making additions to it.

Dark room of nightmare is good in trickstars.It turns 400 damage into 1000 which means each trickstars effect penalizes them by 1/8. Sure it is vulnerable to handtraps & cosmic cyclone but, if you use Don thousand and hand destruction (which isn't necessarily a -1 with Mandrake/would be worth it) you lessen the risk of making them draw into a counter by using smaller draws that can benefit you. There are 2 sides to this argument so I understand if you think it's bad, but there is a argument towards the benefits (which I don't think I've conveyed entirely, and this is long enough with what I thought off of the top of my head) so I wouldn't say it's a bad card, just debateable.

Funny story, me and my friend both used the fire and water decks and we fought, me using the fire deck, I won 2/3 times. After basing a deck around Blaze of Destruction using other cards it was great against some of my friend's better decks. While I stopped playing after Synchro was a thing I think it's a pretty decent start if you wanted a pyro or fire deck.

Ookazi does 800 damage and has no restriction. Tremendous fire also deals 1k and you take 500 but has no restriction. Even for old ass burn spells, you can do a lot better than meteor of destruction.

Dark room of nightmare can be an incredible card And generally is not considered threatening so opponents rarely target it tell its to late

Not saying it’s a good card, but when Gaia Soul came out there was no 2k+ level 4 beaters without some kind of weakness. Panther Warrior had to tribute to attack. Jirai Gumo had a potential of costing half your life. Giant orc/goblin attack force would switch to defense with that being 0. It shocked me coming back to the game years later and seeing a 2k 4 Star normal monster *cough Alexandrite Dragon

yeah this deck was bad, but I hated the Zombie deck the most in the days. Maybe I sucked as a kid and did not fit w/ my beatdown play style, but I had a hard time effectively using it against my friends. Brick hands my dudes
