Chopping the roof on a car can become expensive when it comes to getting the curved glass to properly fit the chop. Here at HILTZ AUTO CO. we know that money has nothing to do with dreams (or dream cars, for that matter) Here is a cheap and easy solution if you’re like us and want to get the job done without spending a $1,000,000 #hiltzautoco
All new season of Bad Chad Customs airs August 17th at 10p on ‪@discovery‬ (USA)

Nice. Beautiful as usual. Horror story here. Had a zip wheel explode with no guard went in my arm from middle knuckle to 3:4 of my forearm Clipped every tendon. Tendon transfer surgery and a year of therapy to think about that guard. Fkt fir life. Brand new quality blade and shattered after first engagement with a frame rail.

You need to be wearing a respirator. All that glass will be in the air and you are breathing it in, not good for the lungs.

My lord by, I've gotta chopped roof on a 65 chev pickup, been pondering how to handle the windscreen! I even have a minty glass in a parts truck, first try will be on it. I'm thinking tub of water, and using air power die grinder and zip cut submerged 🤔 love your show guys ,keep em coming!

I've seen glass cutters use a glass cutter on both sides of the glass. Then use lighter fluid to warm up the area to be cut. Breaking it off like a normal piece of glass. If you didn't warm it up the whole glass can shatter. Especially heat treated glass.

HELPFUL HINT: Use a piece of old measuring tape to cut through the plastic film because it's thin and tough plus it does the job with less chance of shattering the glass

That "rubber stuff" you're using is actually a vynel tape, similar to electrical tape just thicker, use it all the time for jewelry work.

That's a cool attempt, some time try using a diamond disc, for cutting counter tops. They cut glass pretty smoot. I've done thick table glass with diamond disc, its messy, but works , I use soap and water as coolant, and run the variable speed way down. Rotozip makes everything I use.

I had a window made for my 56 Chevy many years ago. They marked the shape on one side with a magic marker. He cut on the other side with a glass cutter which only scratched the surface then tapped the glass with a tiny ball which cracked the glass to the plastic, did the same on the back side and painted the crack with acetone. It fell apart. He then took it to a sanding belt and smoother out the edge.

midgetrace... That is the proven method for cutting laminated glass. Experience has no substitute. The sanding to a polished edge is the important step. Any chips left not sanded will result in cracks during or after installation.

I wonder if a diamond cut off wheel would work really good for using cutting tile
@julianpurcell8167

I have done the same with a diamond blade on a 4" grinder. Its a bit less aggressive and less likely to crack the wrong way. By the way, glass dust is fairly harmless. It is amorphous (non crystalline) and will not cause lung disease. Crushed glass is good for sandblasting as it will not cause siliceous lung disease. Normal sand is crystalline Quartz which will cause lung disease.

I wonder how a 4" diamond blade would work with water as the lubricant/cooling ? Ive cut lots of thin marble (small pieces) using 2 water bottles with the caps on and a small hole in each,one in front of the blade to keep your line clear so you can see it and one on the back of the blade for cooling but it takes 2 guys. One cutting and one spraying. Never used it on glass. Just a thought.
