The convo between Chad & Jim regarding the proper mixing procedure was one of the most hilarious I have experienced between the two...ever. No fault on Jim's part...he simply demonstrated how difficult it sometimes is to change one's train of thought. When we think something is right then it is right...if only in our own mind. I can assure you that he dreamt about the sizes of those two cans. It may never register with him that size does not matter... I simply loved the interaction. A true demonstration of how patience is a virtue...and often key to the teaching/learning process. Chad's the man! My attention wasn't lost on Jolene's respectful giggles behind the camera either. She gets Jim... He is an outrageously funny guy. He's a star.

BC is right about the paint cup, I've painting all my life. I have a large pitcher with the graduations, has a handle, makes life much easier when mixing large quantities. Jimbo the paint shop needs to be at least 60 degrees Fahrenheit or it may not dry fast enough and run or sag. Fisheyes are caused by contamination, oily rags, oil in the air lines, not prepared properly. Using proper prep towels and wax/grease remover helps tremendously. They make a fisheye remover, but it makes the paint spray uneven or orange peely. Good luck with the Ferrari.

Where he had those fish eyes is where he wiped it with that old dirty rag, I said it to myself too when he grab that rag and wiped it...NO...Like The Champ always says learn from your mistakes. Compressor probably could use a water drain to from the petcock on the bottom of the tank, and a $5 filter on the end of the gun would help a lot. Oil + water separator. Good luck Jim you have enough paint to make a mistake or 2. You'll get her buddy. Wax + grease remover and tack rag also. 👍😉✌

You got fish eyes from moisture in the compressor... drain the air tank should always set your compressor tank at an angle sloping toward the drain plug when you drain it put some desicant pouches in the tank don't split them the pouches should help absorb the moisture build up in the compressor tank this is why it's better to paint on a dry hot day or even have a heater in the room to dry out any moisture to reduce the humidity in the air being drawn into tank so you get less chance of having water contaminating the airflow ...also it's best not to use reducer to blow out an decrease the paint gear try using an ethanol or even brake cleaner spray to push out the grease and any moisture from the gun prior to use

I'm sure it's been mentioned before, the guns are shipped oiled up to stop any corrosion coming over by boat, so they need to be thoroughly cleaned before use with acetone I think it's even in the directions. Reducer will not readily dissolve oil. And the filter can be pitched, as that's for people that don't use strainers. I hope it all comes out ok, I would guess he is going to wet sand and buff anyway.

I had a harbor freight gun once that I had taken apart and found it full of white grease. Don't remember if I learned somewhere or just come to the conclusion they oil the guns so they can make it across the ocean without rusting. I would suspect the vape pen had oil that was in the vapor seen around 50 minutes in. If it was the paint gun it would have probably still have shown up elsewhere.

When you compress air you take all the moisture that is in the large volume of air and put it in the air tank. check the compressor tank and see if there is a lot of water in it and drain it off. the water could be coming out with the air as you spray the paint. They make water seperators which can help reduce the moisture.

Clean-Clean-Clean , Every part of the paint process has to be free from contamination. Never use a dirty paint gun, strainers, or containers to paint with. Always use solvent recommended for cleaning the parts to be painted and tack them before spraying. A sanitary booth is a must. Every time you use a paint gun, wash the parts and can thoroughly and spray lacquer thinner through it, and always leave thinner in the can to keep the passages wet for the next job.
@douglasnicholls13662 жыл бұрын
You guys don't have any respect for hardener. As of now, that paint has been mixed for over an hour. Jim put everything in the mix bucket and let it sit without stirring for about 20 minutes while jawboning about other things. That's where the fisheyes came from -- the hardener concentrated near some of the paint. Even though you get more time when it's cold, you can't sit around all day after mixing paint, it needs to get on the car. Or just shoot paint without hardener that doesn't care.
