From one eccentric character on the West Coast, Jim is a wonderful, character. He has his way of thinking through his problems, and Chad, brilliantly, adds the magic ingredients (reducer and hardener), to make the plan workable. I love that Olds hardtop. It was the only Olds from that model year that I liked. What a fun hour.

I paint my cars with Rustoleum . I thin it 50% with mineral spirits and apply it with a white foam roller. It flows out and smooth and dry to the touch in 30 min. It takes about six coats to get full coverage. I wet sand it after the third coat with 320 and 2000 after the 6th coat then I buff it. I get good results and its cheap and durable.

"20 ga. .... it's thicker than no metal." 😆😆😆 Addendum: Just got to the part where he used his fingers with the roller. So awesome. I might not agree with the methods, but I give high marks for gumption! Sounds like Jim wants a little patina on that sucker. Totally doable. Sand off some paint and squirt some vinegar and salt mixure on the bare metal. It'd be tough to match the variety of tones in rust, so might as well use real rust.

Me and the painter I was working for, painted an old 85 dodge van I had years ago,, with some oil base, high gloss industrial paint and some foam rollers and brushes. Did a little sanding and primer smoothed some bumps and dents then taped and rolled it out. It looked great. It was already white but a lot of small dings and scratches damage. Was ready for work the next morning. It was so smooth. We knew nothing about spaying but rolled out hundreds of gallons, so that helped.

i"ve used Coleman fuel on the cheap, it's mostly Naptha , or just get some Naptha. Toulene, Xylene works, laquer thinner flattens it a bit you can cut it with mineral spirits to slow it. Japan drier is also what we used traditionally as a painter to speed drying of residential, commercial and industrial oil base paints. Retired painter

Jim cracked me up! 😂. I was a house painter for years and on cold days are humid days I wound add a little lacquer thinner to my oil based paint to help it dry. But if you are painting a ice cube it is probably going to take a while to dry! Jim should try using a heater.

You guys need to get some of those heat lamps, you probably find them better for people that grow the wacky tobacky. But you plug them in and watch the disc barely moving and turn one on and it starts going like a disco record round n round.. Man the Acrylic I get down at the paint supplies you thin like 50/50 . .I like it because you only need to buy half the paint to do a car than 2 pack and it's easier to sand and work with.. Plus you really not supposed to spray 2 pack in a residential area, you used to be able to get away with it - but now they are cracking down on it and starting to fine people , and I'm not talking parking fine money either..

I used to work for a guy years ago that had his own business here in the Uk that bought second hand ford transit vans from auctions.we used to prep them ,clean them up then the painter sprayed them with dulux household gloss paint .every one was painted white .and when they were done .they looked every inch as good as the paint ford put on and lasted longer .ford paint in the uk on vans is appalling .he then resold them back at the auctions.I did all the mechanical work on them if they needed that type of work.❤❤

My name is Jim and I'm just like him. I painted my '61 Plymouth Fury black and yellow stripes one day. I had a dream and that's what I did. I started with black in the middle of each door, the hood, roof, and trunk. Then I filled in between the black stripes with yellow. It looked like a big bumblebee. I painted "LOVE INN" on the rear end and filled the back seat with empty beer cans. Since I didn't rinse the beer cans and they smelled and drew bees. Funny how "beer" starts with "bee." Yep, Jim reminds me of another guy like me. People think I'm retarded but they're right.
