Yeah, I feel like they didn't do enough to make us hate him, though this episode was the closest. They probably shouldn't have made it PTSD, but just that he has a terrible temper, like an abusive man from the 1940s. The PTSD gives him an excuse, and makes him too sympathetic. That, and Jensen Ackles is just too charismatic. Every time he tries to play a bad guy, like My Bloody Valentine, it just doesn't feel right.

Butcher was giving Soldier Boy "that look" because of what SB had just done to Huey. Butcher's relationship with Huey mirrors his relationship with Lenny, and having come out of that trip down memory lane Butcher was feeling protective of Huey as he had been with Lenny.

Watching this the first time, I was so worried Homelander was going to harm or kill that cow by accident. I’m glad the writers and the character kept a gentle touch during that scene. Crazy episode all around!!

I really enjoyed the discussion you guys had at the end there about the nature of Butcher - as a man, and as a character.. It is so - so! - easy to overlook some really glaring alarmbells because it's Karl Urban - you'd have a hard time finding a more charismatic actor for that role, and he does it with aplomb - but at the end of the day.. Butcher isnt a great individual, and theres a lot more of his father hiding in there than he's willing to admit - and every now and again, it peaks out from under the bed.

There's a fan theory that since Soldier Boy mentions Liberty (Stormfront) being a "real" gal, that they had a relationship. That Stormfront is somehow Homelander's mother. It'd fit his character with all his mommy issues he had with Stillwell in season one. Homelander was banging his mother... Even if she was just a surrogate mother, she was still his mother.

I've been waiting for you guys to see this one. Love all the discussion and points of view this episode brought up. When you wrap up season 3 you really need to add Gen V to your schedule; it serves as a bridge to seaon 4 with new supes and old sprinkled in and it is just as strong, unsettling, layered, and shocking as the Boys. Very well written and leaves you eager for the next episode!

Fun fact I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere: Blue Hawk (Nick Wechsler) was also in a drama series in 2011 called Revenge where he played the main character's love interest. (Spoilers) The main character and villainess kill each other in the end, but the MC somehow lives. Just like A-Train, they are alive only because they received heart transplants from their enemies.

I don’t think Homelander is a natural-born supe, I think they just created a test-tube baby with the right inherited genes to receive Compound V and get extreme powers. We don’t know who his bio mother is, but presumably a powerful supe as well who wasn’t told what her harvested eggs were being used for. The gestational mother was probably human and died.

It's not that hard. 40:00 We have literally no idea who his mother is (Liberty? To make it extra weird.), nor how he was actually made. Soldier Boy literally wanked into a cup. I don't think that constitutes as natural birth if you actually force it like that and for all we know the dude could be a literal lab grown baby. We also do not know if Homelander came out with powers already or if they juiced him up as a baby.

I don’t necessarily disagree with Oak about how Butcher is terrible but how I saw it is that he has a mission. And no matter what he thinks it is worth putting himself and Hughie in danger to accomplish it. He can see Homelander becoming Omni Man and doing more harm than good so he’s willing to die for the mission.
