Please watch anime in English dub - a lot of dubs are good nowadays. Especially as a reaction channel, it's hard to discuss while trying to keep up with the subtitles. It gives you room to appreciate the story and animation etc. Definitely the Oak doesn't need to apologize for not liking the film. That's completely fair. Anime movies in general can be very confusing to non-anime fans. Even as an anime fan, I tend to enjoy anime series more than movies because I think a lot of movies can be convoluted in their story telling and generally, they want to convey the story in an artistic manner. I can appreciate this but sometimes it really just doesn't connect to a western audience, who are not specifically used to this type of storytelling.

For a channel that is new to anime, I can understand this confused reaction. Anime movies tend to not be as straightforward in spelling out the meaning of the story they are trying to tell. Even as an anime fan, sometimes I find them also confusing, which is why I don't blame this group. It is my recommendation in this case to watch anime in English dub so that at least you are not overwhelmed with reading subtitles and trying to interpret what the characters are saying etc. I think watching something in dub gives more clarity, especially if you are also discussing as you're watching. That being said, the storyline can also just be confusing and hard to follow, especially if it's rich in Japanese lore etc.

The end fight scene blood effects were umm optimistic, this hit between T2 & The Matrix so we kinda just figured budget or time constraints. Rest of the movie made up for it so all good.

13:18 That's why in the beginning Galadriel says that "something happened the Ring did NOT intend". Hobbits do not usually leave there villages, they lead very quiet lives, but Bilbo was an exception, so the Ring didn't expect that.

The 90's didn't have the effects that we have now but they knew how to write a story. If Blade got remade again today the effects would be incredible but the plot would be terrible.

The Oak is overthinking the whole time when it's just about rich asian culture specifically Japanese folklore. It's about nature and spirits which is common in east and southeast asian cultures. This is about Kamis or the supernatural spirits of nature. I can relate to it since in my country, pre-colonial history teaches us of nature's spirits. Answer is right, no need to overthink things or to make over interpretation, just absorb the rich culture the movie is showcasing.

iiii think gonna save a lot of my nerves by not watching this one i think (saw the comments) oak have the attitude of not amm being not so opened when something off usulness and logical ground happing on the screen: «wtf are we watching?», «are we supposed to be on drugs while watching this?». it’s sad what people sometimes not opened to embrace or try to understand something metaphorical or completely «insane» in any type of art, but it is what it is

A good friend of mine worked on the CGI for LotR, and he told me a few stories about CGI for different movies, and the problems they encountered. The Blood God scene is a good example, as it was supposed to be a lot more impressive. The idea was to have a whirlpool/hurricane of blood around the chamber, with all of the blood finally being absorbed by Deacon Frost. Sadly they couldn't get it right in time for release

I saw the first two movies with my niece. When we saw this one, she was 24 and I was 32. I swear you could tell the ages of the other women/girls in the audience by how the reacted to seeing Jacob shirtless. The teenage girls all went "WOO!!" And all the adult women let out this collective sigh lol

Since I didn't hear him mentioned shout out to Marvel veteran actor Tim Guinee who plays Curtis, the doctor who gets bitten and turned into a zombie. He's not just in this, but also the first two Iron Man movies as well as the Punisher tv series. And since we're on the subject of vampires with this movie he was also one of the leads in John Carpenter's Vampires, which actually released a couple of months after Blade.

Snipes has been training in martial arts since age twelve, earning a high ranking 5th dan black belt in Shotokan Karate. He has also trained as a student of Capoeira under Mestre Jelon Vieira and in a number of other disciplines including various styles of kung fu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Glad to see you all enjoyed this movie. (I miss the 90’s). To address some of your questions, just watch the 2nd and 3rd movies. BUT, also look for “Blade: The Series”, only a couple seasons, but it gives more context into the conflict between “Pure Bloods and Turned”, “…the organization” Blade/Whistler mentions, and “…back alley treaties with the humans” Frost mentioned. Also, recommend the movie “Daybreakers” which is if vampire Openly rule the world. And I know you’re watching TVD, but, I would recommend the spin off “The Originals”, which is adult based, not “high school” centered.

This is probably the most inaccessible studio ghibli movie for Americans, even though it is so lovely. It’s steeped in Japanese folklore. If you want to try studio ghibli again, with a movie that’s a little clearer, Castle in the Sky is a good one, or Princess Mononoke. Kiki’s Delivery Service is also a lot easier to follow.

And in this universe, there is beef between the two classes of vampires. The “Pure Bloods” and the “Turned Bloods” as they’re called. The pure bloods were born vampires while the turned bloods are vampires who were turned. Pure bloods do not have visual marks or wounds to show while the turned bloods have such wounds when they were bitten. In the case of pure bloods, it seems to be rare cases due to the risk involved in the womb.

It does help to understand the culture, but if you know anything of the myths of the Fair Folk/Faerie Realm in European mythology then you can definitely detect parallels. To be "spirited away" means to disappear mysteriously, typically to an otherworldly realm and sometimes making it back(often after years passed in the world you came from) but sometimes you never make it back(but supposedly you can live forever and often young in the otherworld depending on the folklore). With any Ghibli movies it definitely pays to know the basic essentials of the folklore, especially how it differs from similar folklore from whatever culture you're coming from. There is a some movies of Ghibli I'm sure are about less fantastical stuff: ~Whispers of the Heart ~Grave of the Fireflies(though I've heard it's heartbreaking) ~Kiki's Delivery Service(a touch of magical while still being grounded in a relatable reality) ~When Marnie Was There(can get confusing to follow and seems fantastical when it's not as fantastical as it seems) ~The Secret World of Arrietty(which is a loose adaptation of The Borrowers series) ~Princess Mononoke(it's fantastical but it definitely has a much clearer message than Spirited Away)
