32:41 that’s ghetto sad part, Death Note is like one of the few animes that should be decently easy to make in Live Action but for some reason they keep missing the mark either changing the plot or characters totally. There is a Japanese one which is great but you can see that they were also on a tight budget while making it.
@ViniSocramSaint9 күн бұрын
It's because the live action version (of any series) is thought as something different, not just a different medium for the series, a completely different thing. The Death Note ones miss the mark for fans of the anime, but they were designed to have a broad appeal instead of only for seinen, pseudo-brainy manga/anime fans. You hate it, but your parents and small siblings love it. There is a whole vibe and set of nuances that makes it's style, they are too strange for a "dysney show enjoyer" - and vice versa. I personally cannot stand "dysney acting": too superficial, campy, fake. Meanwhile, a (normie) friend can't stand Death Note's constant unresolved dread: too bad-vibey, perplexing, uncomfortable, having to think hard even during the explanations, we are left with dread instead of relaxing after an episode is done. The live action leaves the sense of dread at minimum instead of raveling in it. There is only a sleeve of "terror camp" and "good vs evil" left. It's by design.

26:28 in his mind, he did do something wrong. He said a little while before that anyone who stands in the way of creating his perfect world are the ones who are truly evil. In Light's eyes, he doesn't see it as evil because to him the ends justify the means.

This is my personal favourite anime of all time. The dub was incredible for a heavy dialogue written show. There are lots of visual symbols and quotes open to many interpretations, even after multiple viewings. I love this anime so much that I also recommended it to people as an introduction to anime shows. I also wrote an essay for a philosophy course at university many years ago. To this day, every time I rewatch this series, I still get chills. I'm excited and looking forward to seeing your reactions. You guys are in for a crazy ride!! Keep up the awesome content! I'm so happy you guys decided to react to this series. Death Note is one of my favorite series of all time. I have the entire manga at home as well. The anime (especially the first half) is pretty faithful but they do of course slim down certain parts to keep the pacing going. One funny thing to note about this show is that the author of the original manga, Tsugumi Obah initially published this story in Shonen Jump, a manga magazine aimed at teenagers. He said he wanted it that way cause he knew teenagers wouldn't get too bogged down in philosophical aspects of the story and could just enjoy the ride. 😁

Apparently in Japanese even slight variations of the Kanji (letters) can give the Name an entirely different pronouncation/meaning thats why if someone tells you their name they might add "with the pronouncation for" while explaining it. As the poster above me stated already Light just wrote every variation he could think of.

One thing I remember about this anime when it came out was that it had been in Shonen Jump for a bit, so you had those who went over to see it in anime form from the manga where you had the chapter-a-week to the episode-a-week. I really love this one and a few others as it's good at setting up a mystery in two ways - with L and those who are trying to find Kira, it's a "whodonit", with Light and Ryuk, it's a "howcatchem" (think 'Columbo'). Because of those different points of view, you have to figure out Light will do or how he'll react, while with L you have the cop drama. Either side could make a great show, but the balance between the two - L and his traps, Kira and his own methods of hiding who he is - AH, so good! Glad you guys started it! Enjoy the ride.

16:34 Understandably most people aren't going to see it this way, but this show is ultimately about how to enforce capitalism. Most crimes happen due to poverty-related reasons. And the show presents a false dichotomy between whether they should be killed or given due process. While completely ignoring the real crime that capitalism steals necessities from the poor to give luxuries to the rich. Luigi Mangione and the American healthcare system being a prime example of what I mean

Sooo excited to see your reaction to this show! I really enjoy hearing your discussion and this show is really great for fostering philosophical debates, so it feels like it will be a great fit for the channel. I especially enjoy the way Oak breaks down the messages from the different shows/movies, so really looking forward to that. He brings up a really good point wondering where the line is and who gets to decide that, and I think the trouble with Light's plan is already revealed in that question: there can't ever be a line, as he eradicates violent criminals, in order to maintain his status as God, he has to eliminate less violent criminals...and then victimless crimes will require harsh judgement...because you can't really widdle the world down to "just" good people, there's always somebody who will be on the outs with the rules of what is "good" and "bad", when "good" is being defined by a single individual.

Great reaction to the second episode as well! It's so awesome to see how into the show you all are. I watched the show as it was originally coming out, but even before that I was reading the manga along with some of my friends in high school, and that's exactly what we would do, we'd talk about the latest volume, discussing what happened and where we think things will go. It has so much nostalgia for me, remembering those times and conversations. I'm glad that you guys chose English dubbed for Death Note. I'm not a dub person myself but Death Note is one of those animes where I highly recommend in English dub. The sub is good as well especially with Mamoru Miyano voicing Light but the dub, in my opinion is better especially with L, Light, and Ryuk's voice. Their English voice are just chef's kiss. ❤️👌 Edit: Guys, if you dislike or hate the dub then better don't reply here and just don't watch their DN reactions. To my fellow subwatchers who are toxic, please don't spread your toxicity here. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if you guys are just gonna trash on the dub, then just please don't watch Badd Medicine's reaction. Thank you and have a good day!

So fun fact, this story has a legit musical adaptation, and it's genuinely like... Top 3 adaptations of the story.
