What I love about the Levi vs Beast Titan fight is that Levi is constantly one step ahead. The Beast defends his nape but Levi goes for the eyes, he realises he can't see and Levi is already cutting down his ankles, he notices that his ankles are gone and Levi is already positioning to strike the nape, he tries to harden but Levi is already performing the coup de grace. @coco-sh2nyАй бұрын
Trueee. Maybe because Erwin has more experience and willing to risk everything. They may be similar (of how smart and strategic they are) but Armin is no gambler like Erwin who is ready to sacrifice his soldier. It's understandable in Armin's side. Just because he can't gamble like Erwin, doesn't mean he's not valuable or deserving. Armin has a lot to offer, but he's very kindhearted. And doesn't even see his own value. PEOPLE around see his value, Erwin, Levi, Eren, Mikasa, Jean, everyone see value in him. Many people dislikes S4 Armin but for me, he's one of their keys. Plus, he's still smart and strategic as he is. Maybe people didn't notice his brainy moments in the show. People only see him as lover boy Armin when he only had few moments with Annie. But the rest is him trying to set everything right and still fighting even after losing Hange and being burdened being the next commander at that young age. I appreciate these guys for their appreciation for Armin🥺
@SSW77721 күн бұрын
I mean they also ignored the fact that Erwin also similarly helped the scouts. He smoked out the Female Titan by using Eren as bait, saved Eren in season 2 (also lost an arm in the process), led a bloodless military coup and overthrew the shitty government and then the Beast Titan. My favourite character is actually Armin but them ignoring Erwin's achievements as well as Berthold's character was a pretty bad reaction in my opinion.
@TataloveswangxianАй бұрын
What makes Levi's decision is even more heart-shattering is not only because he sees a future in Armin's eyes, but how he decides it's time to let his best friend rest.
@coco-sh2nyАй бұрын
And he never regrets it. Some people disliked S4 Armin, but I'm not like them. Maybe his role got a bit toned down but he still did things, he's still smart as he is and very strategic to the point Hange thought Erwin possessed him. Armin has a lot to offer. But he's still minor so and has little experience than Erwin so it's normal that people would rather choose Erwin. But unlike him, Armin's dreams is bigger while Erwin's dream wasn't. And Armin played a big role in Eren's life than Erwin.

Isayama (the writer of Attack on Titan) said in an interview: 'People tend to say, "True happiness is when you don't fulfill your dream." This indicates that for a person, "continuing the pursuit of a dream even during the last seconds" is the best kind of life. I kept thinking about this notion as I drew Erwin's final moments." This combined with Kenny's quote "Everyone has to be drunk on something" tells us why Erwin died and not Armin. Erwin's dream was to find out what's in the basement, that's what he's "drunk on". What happens after he gets there? His dream is gone, fulfilled. Nothing to be "drunk on" anymore, nothing to drive him. Armin's dream, however, is driven by curiosity. Even after he finds the sea, he'll still be curious about other things. He'll still be "drunk on his curiosity and he'll keep driving forward, where Erwin may have lost his motivation. The adage which Isayama describes is the final part of Levi's decision. Erwin's entire life was driven by his dream. He died fighting for it. Bringing him back would enter him into the same hell, but without a dream to fight for. Hence why it was time to finally let him rest.

In this case, Armin has his friends whom he sees as family, he also strive for freedom, for knowledge. I personally don’t think either option would’ve been “wrong”. In Levi’s eyes, though, he sort of was choosing Erwin by allowing him to pass, freeing him being a “slave” to his dream and not forcing him to continue being a “devil” for their sake. There also exists the whole angle that Erwin’s aspirations ended with the basement, whereas Levi knew Armin’s dreams extended much farther than that. Not only may Erwin have lost his drive after reaching the basement, but Armin would’ve inherently been much more invested (and found much more meaning) in their potential future explorations beyond the wall.
@Ria1D13Ай бұрын
I second to this. My first understanding was the second one about Erwin’s dream ends with the basement while armin’s much further. But after a few rewatches by watching reactors, I feel like the biggest reason of Levi’s choice is the first one. He just one his friend to rest.

Yes erwin did do all that but this is in comparison to armin not undermining his achievements. If armin was in erwins position he would've done the same thing. As always amazing work by the VAs but they really elevated this scene since it’s so dialogue- and emotionally-heavy. And after this ep comes the absolute turning point of the entire show. Ep 17 is a given brilliant episode on its own, both these episodes are probably my favorite of the entire show.

Nobody felt bad for Bertholdt. It hurts seeing him smile at the team, realize that he’s going to be eaten, and then calling them to help him. Like he forgot that they were the enemy and not his friends. He screams for Annie and Reiner out of desperation and they aren’t there to hear or help him. It’s easy to empathize with Bert. I know that his reasons haven’t been explained yet, but you can tell that he only takes action when Reiner is pushing him to. I bet that if Bert could’ve gotten away with it, he would’ve tried living in the walls with everybody. He feels terrible for his victims and he considers everyone as a friend. His situation is tragic and his fate is terrible. No matter what happens, he loses something important to him.

To clarify for Answer - the reason Erwin didn't take the serum before the mission and why they waited after capturing the titan shifters is you need both serum and shifter. To take the power of a titan shifter, you need to turn into a regular titan with the serum, and _then_ eat a shifter and take their power. If Erwin took the serum right away, he'd just me a mindless titan making cute faces outside the walls.

It’s so true though. People tend to think Armin is a coward, but he’s just trying to win in his way. Besides, he’s better at thinking than fighting. Running in like Eren does would’ve killed him very early. He only picks fights he knows he can win. He would be a fool to go in on a disadvantage and die. He is courageous though. Many times he puts himself in almost certain doom to save others. Once when persuading the garrison, another when he goes out of the tunnel right in front of Annie, and again as he gets scorched alive. His actions in “Hero” are as courageous as anyone could ever be. He knew that he would be scorched to death, but he did it anyway. He thought that was his final moment and gave everything he had so they could win. The line that hits me harder is Eren’s line that comes after the flashback “Why don’t you ever run away?” You can tell how much grief Eren is in at that moment just by that line
@thelegacyofgaming2928Ай бұрын

36:55 maybe u realized this in the discussion later, but he didnt hear any of it. Erwin put his hand up because in his mind he was reliving the memory of him asking the question that became his dream to find the answer to. That question evolved into reaching the basement, he was a slave to reaching his dream. Which is why it also cut back to Kenny's quote of Everyone being a slave to something, and needing something to drive on. In the scene before the charge against the beast titan, during Erwin and Levi's conversation, Erwin already sort of made peace with the idea of dying as Levi even told him to forget his dream. Levi considered it too cruel to bring him back just so he would have to become a slave to his dream again. The decision had nothing to do with Erwin telling Levi not to inject him. It was completely Levi's own decision

This anime only took one episode - just one week of waiting to know that Armin got the serum. In the manga... it was whole _three months_ of waiting, people freaking out cause Armin was "dead" while I couldn't believe it, I didn't want to believe it (TWD fan as well and we have to double check people if they're really gone or not lol). People were so sure that Erwin's getting it while I was 100% on Armin. When Eren broke down and said all those things about Armin, I also cried, frustrated, knowing that at that time, Erwin was the "right choice" but Armin was my _only_ choice. He was my fav character, loved him more than anyone. But then Levi saw it differently than anyone else. He, just like me, listened to his own personal feelings and I loved that. Goes to show how humane Levi has always been. (Ofc Armin's worth was also recognized by both him and me.) Anyway, I was so relieved that Armin really got it I could throw up, and I felt like I wanted to give Levi a pat on the back or shoulder if not a hug. He made the most difficult decision he could've made and I respect that. This season is peak.
@mchebar22Ай бұрын
I'm convinced Erwin would not have said to give it to Armin. He's an extremely selfish character who hides his own desires behind the objective of "saving humanity". That's what makes him a goated character. Also Armin didn't get jacked cos of the titan serum. I think people forget they went through 3 years of military training in season 1 and have been on the battlefield since then so they're all in top shape...

3:21 "That right there, what was that." Titans being created. You usually don't see this with the dumb titans because, unlike the titan shifters, you usually don't see dumb titans created. But they get built up just like Eren did in the final scene of 2x06. In general, the scene appears to be inspired by all those dumb titans popping up near the Beast Titan in 3x13. 33:08 "Can they do half and half?" Maybe. But there's only on Bertholdt for nom, nom, nom. 37:01 Erwin didn't hear anything. He was flashing back to school and raised his hand to give an answer. 43:58 "Levi talked too much..." (instead of killing the beast titan shifter) Levi was never trying to kill the shifter. He wanted him alive so he could use the serum on someone. So Levi's monologuing had no impact. 45:08 Reiner couldn't transform. Recall 2x08, Eren - missing his arms - was unable to transform. "Reiner had Levi's sword stuck through his neck earlier!" Because spoiler.

I wouldn't say the Armin vs Erwin was a 5 to 1. Erwin still made the plan to find out who the traitors in the scouts are by giving different information to different groups on where Eren was. The Female Titan attacked the right wing first because Erwin told the right wing that's where Eren would be. That was the first confirmation of Reiner and Bert being traitors in the scouts. That's 1. 2 was him capturing the Female Titan and forcing her to reveal her special skill to escape. 3 Was vs Reiner to lead a squad of titans directly at Reiner to trap him in place. 4 His speech to inspire his troop to run a suicidal charge attack into a group of Titans to save Eren from Reiner even at the cost of his arm he still cried out "Charge!" Even after losing that arm he still cut Bert to free Eren! Huge W moment. 5. Psyching out Reiner to charge at Eren instead of the Horses. 6. Leading the scouts to their death to kill the Beast Titan! Armin probably had a few more too but ultimately I'd say it was fairly close like 6 to 7 going either of their way.

That whole argument on the roof is just as intense as the rest of the fights this past few episodes. It's crazy. The whole fanbase was torn in this episode. Because we all love both Erwin and Armin but all of us have our opinions. Erwin with his leadership and experience, Armin with his intellect. And it doesn't help that you're on borrowed time right there. You have to make a decision ASAP. But I'm glad that you guys agreed with Levi's decision. Armin being an asset is barely the reason he was chosen. It's a bunch of reasons piled on top of one another. Like Armin having dreams that go beyond all of this while Erwin's is only about the basement and doesn't know what to do after that. Or Armin being a kid with a whole life in front of him while Erwin has been through years of hell and he deserves his rest. Or even just the fact that Erwin has accepted that this was the end of his journey. You could see him look like he felt relief when Levi told him to sacrifice himself for the plan. He even thanked Levi for making the decision for him. Anyway, awesome reaction guys! Mason's right. This feels like a time we finally get to breathe. This one battle is finally done now. And it's time to start planning our next moves.

I think before the charge Erwin had already got his peace of mind, that charge speech was also the spirit of himself, so when Levi said that we should let Erwin rest it's totally understandable.
