I love how early in this first episode they had Queen Aemma telling Rhaenyra that the birthing bed is the woman’s battlefield in this world. And then you have the back-and-forth between the tournament and the birth scene to emphasize this analogy. Trailers have just dropped for season two. So I had to check out some additional reactions, as I have to wait a few more months for season two to air.

Daemon doesn't really want the throne as much as the counsel makes it out to be. He more so just wants recognition and acknowledgement , especially from his older brother, the King. He does truly love his family, you can see that in the way he interacts with Rhaenyra.

So Aegon I was the one who had the vision of the Song of Ice and Fire and he was known as the conquerer, conquering Westeros and bringing the seven kingdoms under one rule. He started the new year as 0 AC. Game of Thrones started in approximately 297 AC, and finished about 304-305 AC. House of the Dragon started in 101 AC (first scene with the voiceover) and is currently set in 111 AC which is the ninth year of Viserys I’s reign.

2 things you have to keep in mind about this show vs. GoT. Firstly, George R.R. Martin was of the opinion on GoT that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss paid for the right to change whatever they wanted about his world/story. He merely consulted on GoT, whereas he was an integral part of THIS new show so it's going to look and have certain things portrayed differently (such as the throne looking different, i.e. more how the writer envisioned). Secondly, THIS show takes place 200 years before GoT. A lot changes in 200 years (such as the throne). So yeah, it's the same place and same History, but it's done more through the eyes of the man who wrote the books rather than a couple doofuses from Hollywood who want to do their own thing. When GoT finished, you must also remember that George R.R. Martin hadn't even finished the books wrapping the story up yet. Which is why the last season of GoT was total garbage, hence proving the point that producers should stick to producing. Leave the creative part to the professionals. I think y'all would dig IMCF. The International Medieval Combat Federation. There's some of the annual battles here on YTube. It has its issues for sure, but it's the only sport of its kind on that kind of lvl. I'd love to se the US team actually employ a strategy outside of their own egos though. We've always had great fighters on our team, but they refuse to actually work AS a team, it's all Lone Wolf crap out there. Anyway, hang an eyeball onnit sometime, you may have fun!

There are no actual set rules for jousting. It all depended on where a joust was held, and what rules were agreed upon. So in various kingdoms you would have varying rules. Brutal jousts were held where killing and fighting on foot were allowed, while some places held a more simple contest with more strict rules of conduct. So far, this new series has been pretty accurate with the medieval armor and weapons being used, more accurate than Game of Thrones. The series is also more easier for people to follow, who are not familiar with the lore from the books. Since you don't have tons of characters names and histories suddenly being dumped onto you. The characters being added is far more slow, so I think this might actually become far more popular than Game of Thrones.

Guys, finally! I highly recommend for you to watch a recap for Game of Thrones just to refresh your memories on houses and the story it self. 5:18 The Iron Throne wasn’t like that one in Game of Thrones. That was a mistake! The original Iron Throne is described as a lot taller and with many manyyy swords melted down around it. The design of the throne in GoT wasn’t accurate. This is much closer to the original. You can find images drawn by fans accurate to the books!

Yeees, we're doing this! I'm so glad you're doing HoTD. About the jousting, House of the Dragon is heavily inspired by real high medieval culture and historically the rules of a joust varied from competition to competition. There was never any set standard of what you could or could not do, rather it was decided whenever a joust was commenced. So we can assume that this particular joust has very liberal limits for what you can do to win. The king otherwise has the authority to abort a bout between contestants, but Viserys as we see is a bit of a people pleaser. One deciding line is however that if a contestant officially yields then the bout is over; and if a fighter was to try something after doing so it'd be social suicide, he'd be marked as a lowlife craven. Hence why we do not see Daemon trying anything after he himself yields.

Gotta say, I'm glad you touched on the controversy of the GOT ending without completely trashing it. I personally LOVED the show all the way to the end, didn't hate anything about it, and it surprises me every time people talk nasty about it. I understand some people won't enjoy the same things I do, and that's ok, but the VICIOUS hatred for the GOT ending is ridiculous. It's like nobody is allowed to enjoy it because some people didn't. Makes me very sad.

​@@mamaseesa3122I had a few major issues with season 8 and I will always be butthurt about it but I will still watch it. SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT. My biggest complaints were, The way Cersei died(I think they should have had Jaime die at Winterfell and had Arya take his face, Arya would have killed Cersei and Cersei would have thought it was Jaime). The Hound dying, it was just weird for him to go through so much character development just to go back to revenge mode. The way they did not really lead up to Dany going mad, it just kind of happened. I truly think they should have had 9 seasons in all, the rushing around is what really took them down for season 8.

@@JustKelso1993 spoilers!! The Hound was always going to kill his brother. He didn't want Arya to follow in his footsteps, that was important, so I'm glad he made her leave before killing the queen. Jamie and Cersei dying in each other's arms was poetic and Shakespearian, and it works. He's always said he does whatever it takes to get back to her, I think of her as his addiction. I would've loved for him to be with Brienne, but he didn't feel worthy of her. Dany has been crazy all along. Her coin landed on it's edge, and it's wobbled her whole life. She does really good things, but also horrible things. She just looks epic when she does it. Freed the Unsullied, that's awesome, slavery is bad. But in doing so, she destroyed the economy of an entire city and walked away. That created a vacuum for whoever to come in and take advantage. She should've helped the city start over, but instead, it was left to fall right back into slavery again. Avenging the slave girls marking the path to Mareen was good, but she killed innocents when she did it. She always had good people around her to hold her back - Jorah, Missandei, etc - and when they were gone and her grief overtook her, her coin finally landed and the innocents of Kings Landing paid the price. I've watched the series several times, and it's all laid out if you look past how epic she was.

It's a bit odd they have Criston Cole described in the show as "common-born". He's definitely not. He has social status. He has a house. He's just a minor noble. Emphasis on "minor". Maybe they wanted to just really make it clear to the audience right away that there was no hope for the particular relationship he gets into later, and just really play up that sort of Romeo Juliet thing they have going. But that relationship having zero future is not because he's a "common-born" peasant or something. It's because he's not ROYAL (or a ruling, high lord), and the aim of his affections is. A minor noble woman might be ok in certain situations marrying a royal man (not a king, probably, but a prince not likely to have to become king. Someone like a second or third son. ). But the other way around, a minor noble pursuing a royal princess, was simply not done. And pursuing such a relationship would likely be seen as a kind of attack on the royal family. This kind of explains better why he does what he does later. It's not just because he's spurned and bitter. He literally risked his head to be with her, and she just moves on, treats it all very casually. It's actually very selfish and irresponsible, on her end. It's not a good sign of leadership on her part to have engaged in that relationship whatsoever. Don't get me wrong. I still think her claim is the true, legal one. Oaths were sworn. And that is why Feudalism and true Monarchy SUCKS (not symbolic Constitutional Monarchy, but an all powerful Monarch). Sure, you might end up with a great leader. Like...YIKES 😬 🤣 Anyway, perhaps the writers just really wanted to dial that drama between those two up, and maybe it was just more straight-forward to simply say to today's modern audience he's common. It makes a sort of sense, emotionally and for writing for an audience that isn't familiar with history, I guess. And that's fine. But it's literally nonsensical, in context, factually. So, as a history nerd, AND a fangirl of the book series, it's a detail change that kinda irks me 😆 I still overall love the show though and am enjoying your reaction. As I usually do lol

I will say that the writing is better on HOTD than ROP. There’s subtext in the writing that speaks volumes. We should hold ROP to that standard. Yes two different stories, but there’s a rich mythology in LOTR and in the book of the Silmarillion.

People are so mad that Rhaenys was the queen who never was, but the reason she & Viserys were even in line after their grandfather Jaehaerys is his sons near all died (one became an arch maester). Pretty sure his first born died fighting his uncle Maegor, second son of Aegon the Conqueror but first son of his sister wife Visenya. Because Aegons first son took the throne, the second he died instead of the throne going to Jaehaerys Maegor with the help of his mom Visenya usurped the throne. He was a horrible person & king. Finally when he died Jaehaerys took the throne and was a great king. How Visenya helped take the throne & power for her son vs her nephew is probably still in everyone minds even though it was a whole king ago. The context makes it more likely that the people saw what a strong woman who sadly was more interested in power vs the people would do to the country - hence they preferred Viserys. Viserys also has a more direct incestuous bloodline (his parents were siblings) vs Rhaenys whose mother was a Baratheon even though both with Jaehaerys grandchildren.

I never watched Game of Thrones; outside of clips of Tyrion humor, it being medieval fantasy-themed gore and porn just wasn't my thing. But it's you guys, so I kept an open mind to watching this because yeah, dragons are cool. That said, despite watching the edited & censored version with you guys, pardon my language, but a lot of that was really fucked up. Like it was censored enough I could sit through the mass mutilation / decapitation night-raid, but that birth scene, I had to take off my headphones and leave the room. Even if it was just a sliver of a moment, that's not something I can unsee or unremember. I love the Badd Medicine community and I'm not gonna shame you guys for liking what you like, but this is one of those journeys I can't join you on. Whatever it is in the series that you get enjoyment, I honestly hope you and other fans enjoy it. I'll see you guys back at the movie reactions.
