Jean has really been a standout character for these past few episodes. He realized that all of the innocent people outside of the island that didn't have a say in the decisions of their goverments to attack the island and that don't hate the Eldians truly don't deserve to die like Marco did.

Sasha in season 1saved Samuel's life and now her "other half" Connie ended up murdering him. It's so sad. These were all friends and comrades who survived the horrific battle for Trost by skin of their teeth together and shared dreams only to kill each other now.

The reason why Samuel hesitated with shooting Connie but not with Armin because he was closer with Connie than he was with Armin. Armin was more often hanging around the leadership figures like Erwin, while Connie was more of a on the ground soldier. Also Samuel knew that the shots wouldn't kill Armin.

@theCommentDevil Titan shifters only die if they are shot in the brain or neck. Tho Reiner could survive from brain destruction cause he was fast enough to transfer his consciousness. It's more likely Samuel knew about the shifters' abiluties. Plus narratively it's stronger if he didnt want to kill Armin than him just not caring. Because if so then his scene isn't as sad and just make him look like a hypocrite who ask for mercy when he just try to kill Armin. It's way better to have him not being able to kill Armin and Conny then have Conny be the one who becomes the real traitor

@@fs400ion true, and I'm not saying anyone is wrong, just that the story itself doesn't tell us that he was only trying to incapacitate him. He rapidly put one in the heart one in the stomach, one in the head without much aiming and the recoil forcing his shots up shows he wasn't going for precision. Any of those could have been slightly off by a few centimeters and it'd be a different story.

Another thing is that, back in season 1, Reiner, Beethoven, and especially Annie don't want there same batch scout to get hurt, injured or worse die. Now, Mikasa, Armin and the rest don't want to hurt the newer scouts because they grew a relationship with one another for 4 years.

4x25 might not have a lot of action but that scene around the fire was one of my favorites. After all this time, these characters finally get to air out their frustrations. Annie's transformation is hype though. We took her down as an antagonist in the very first season, and now we're here in the fourth, working with her.

The final two they will probably do one episode a week. Time feels like it's flown by with them now approaching the end and probably 3 weeks left. 27-28, 29, and the Final 30.

Them arguing over who's suffered more is at the heart of the story. The majority of the world wants to exterminate everyone on the Island due to some past tragedies and can't let go of their anger. The result is all that hate and anger gives rise to someone like Eren and the others in the walls. People often mistake the message of the series as being not to give into revenge like Eren but it's actually more a warning at what happens when you constantly oppress people as like a beaten dog they will eventually bite back. Marley and most of the world wanted to commit mass extermination on the Island and now they are on the receiving end of such an action as they created the very monster they feared by backing the people of the Island into a corner. Paradis is a Medeival society and they are facing an industrialized world they wants to exterminate them. The is no peace to be had so Eren reaches for the only option he can, the "nuke them" button in order to save everything he cares about.

Connie, who started out as part of the comic relief, really has gone through a lot throughout the show. Had to kill two friends face to face here at the port (one of which was Samuel, who Sasha saved in S1). Lost his entire village thanks to Zeke, so he has no home to go back to. He had to give up on saving his mother (his only remaining family) who was turned into a Titan and it pains him to see her that way. Watched his best friend, Sasha, die, helpless to do a thing to save her. Sasha, who was as close to him as a twin. Betrayed over and over by people he trusted and even admired. Then he was forced to becoming the betrayer because he couldn't turn a blind eye from doing what he believed was right.

They need to air this dirty laundry so that they can get past it and so each one of them can realize that nobody’s a hero. You guys should at some point watch the music video version of the rumbling, while we're at it, also the 2 final opening and endings they made for the last episode, I don't think there's spoilers. The final opening is great, it's by linked horizon, who made the first 2 openings. The final ending is Under the Tree, which is spoiler-y.... but you only realize it after watching the last episode. Highly recommend.

I think you missed it in 4x25, but part of what the conversation at the campfire was about was scaling the essence of the Forest analogy to its simplest form. They are sitting in the Forest, they are blaming each other for their bloodied histories, they are talking past each other and pretending to not acknowledge anything about the pain the others at the campfire have experienced and the moment they come to blows... sure, the intended target of the victim is hurt - but it unintentionally hurts one of the children. THAT is the cycle of the Forest, and AoT in a nutshell. The cycle where adult, filled with hatred won't listen or learn from their past mistakes, and its the next generation, the children that unintentionally wind up getting hurt. We've seen it with Eren. We've seen it with Marley as a nation. We've seen it with Grisha, Gabi and even the relationship between the Founder Ymir and the original King Fritz. We see it in the genocidal aspirations of both Marley and Eren. This episode reflects deeply on that, which I always thought was part of the reason why the OP doesn't play - it's a song that everyone thought was hype and exciting and a total banger... but the hatred and the consequences of that hatred in the show is not hype, not exciting, and decidedly NOT a banger.
