British Dramas - Which have been distributed by Netflix or HBO outside of the UK.

Those shows had been going for 10, 20, 30+ years, and were still love by the public as shown by viewing figures and the polls, but Peter Fincham cancelled them all.

Fun Fact: Peaky Blinders was a real British Gang. Historians claim that the word "peaky" was often used to describe any flat cap with a peak while blinder was and remains a term for a well-dressed individual in Birmingham slang.

@CosmicAether5 ай бұрын
@@_thecrimsonreaper_4972 Not true. It is commonly believed that the name Peaky Blinders comes from the razor blades that the gang sewed into the peaks of their hats and used to slash their victims across the face. However historians have pointed out that the type of replaceable razor blades that were sewn into their hats were not manufactured in Britain until 1908. Considering the real Peaky Blinders were founded in the 1880s and were taken over by Billy Kimber by 1910 the name clearly predates the introduction of these razors. Also the whole Billy Kimber thing isn't a spoiler for the show as the show changes some things.

My best friend is a direct descendent of one of the gang - Harry Fowles. I remember hearing an interview with a Birmingham local historian who wrote a book on the Peaky Blinders; apparently, his grandfather was one of them. He was very clear on two points: 1. Historically, they did become powerful enough that they were able to influence the racing up at Aintree, but after that, the show DEFINITELY deviates from history. 2. As happy as he was that Cilian Murphy had made the Brummie Accent sexy, he wanted to hammer home the point that the Peaky Blinders were violent, dangerous men. Which is probably true of every romanticised gang.

This is one of my favorite shows of all time. I picked it up randomly during the pandemic because I was bored and the same as Oak and Quinn I was immediately put off but stuck with it out of boredom. Odd music and strange heavy accents without much immediate plot progression had me worried. But it quickly got interesting, I began to understand the speech with ease without subtitles, and every single season is better than the last and I genuinely mean that. One of the few shows that actually expands and delves into the season before while adding new elements in each season. Cillian of course kills it but so does Paul Anderson as Arthur, and of course Helen McCrory as Aunt Pol and so many others that gave a fantastic performance. This is gonna be a favorite I think for you guys.
