What Khansahab is doing starting about ~5:30 min into the clip is, in Hindustani music terminology, called "shruti-bhed" or "moorchhana" -- the tonal "Sa" is changed to a different note, which then results in a "different" scale although the same "frequencies" are being sung due to the change in tonic.
@argmined5 жыл бұрын
Is this the same as singing in a different key - in the Western music?

Yes. Pt. Ajoy Chakroborty also does it.

Can it be exactly the same frequency after moorchana. In indian music the ratio of frequencies are not equi-tempered but simple ratios. So sa/ga and re/ma may not be equally seperated?

Music of legends. What outstanding quality too. Bravo!
@angelocito12 жыл бұрын
It's inappropriate to expect perfection from these old recordings and we can be grateful for having them as is. But I have to wonder whether your comment on quality is sarcastic or not Quality of artistry, no doubts. But quality of recording? Such pieces really deserve the sound rehabilitating expertise of a master recording engineer, and eventually I expect that will happen. But why, pray tell, the sudden cutoff of the raag before completion. That, unfortunately, is a sacrilege.
@anindochoudhury8926 Жыл бұрын
@@angelocito1 not one iota of sarcasm. Compared to some of the other recordings of this legendary singer I've come across, this recording is surprisingly and refreshingly clear. And this is an amazing rendition of one of my top three favorite ragas.

Eventhough he was not upto his father, Ustad munawwar Ali khan too was a gifted singer.
@willyschwarz17303 жыл бұрын
@@acct123as3 Munnawar may have also been talented, but he never had the inventiveness, the "Barwadi" to attempt anything his imagination could fathom, like BGAK did so miraculously. This is the heart and soul of "Kheyal" - IDEAS! The older Munnawar got, the more intrusive became his contributions, until after BGAK's heart attack, he would even interrupt him with his endless "Merukhand" machinations, clearly enunciated though they were.
