My old guitarist, Nick Lohri from NYC area, was hired as Pete Hamm’s original replacement. But then one of the member’s mom died and they scrapped the reunion, circa 1978. Nick would have been a perfect replacement…sang and wrote like Pete, played guitar, slide, keyboards and looked the part.

My thing about this one is that it lacks a good hook or just the fact that it's close to standard pop chord changes. The energy sure was there! I think the difference between ...say, 1972 Badfinger and this is... 1972 is timeless (No pun) music. To me "Day after Day" and/ or "Baby Blue" sound just as powerful as the first day I heard them. Actually, because after each litin another jewel sticks out on the recordings. Like a guitar part or horn part. Badfinger is quality pop music. And, Badfinger are Timeless!

The band is obviously lipping, even though you can see the song is totally in their muscle memory, and they're all playing their instruments as if they were miked and live. The 1970s to the early 80s was a strange time for TV. There were so many variety shows which had musical guests (Dinah Shore, Mike Douglas, Carol Burnett, Soul Train, American Bandstand, etc.), but the bands ALWAYS LIP SYNCED. This performance is no exception. Pretty much the only place you could see live music on TV in the 70s was on a show called The Midnight Special. The guy that produced and ran that show just started posting clips from it on youtube.
@derekecАй бұрын
The 60's too. I've never been completely sure if it was totally lip sync'd vs background reinforced. It wasn't a reflection though on the bands' abilities but rather the policy prerequisite of the producers' to ensure nothing got screwed up on air even if taped and audience got the sound they were expecting.

@@robertclark6349 What happened in Wisconsin?
@robertclark6349 Жыл бұрын
@@RainbowCharade When Joey and Tom split the original Badfinger up in 1981, both started their own version of the band. In 1982, Tom recruited original drummer Mike Gibbons and Bob Jackson (who had temporarily replaced Pete Ham). In the summer of 1982 Tom had signed contracts with a promoter in Milwaukee that were just as bad as the contracts Badfinger had signed with Stan Polley. The band was housed in an unfurnished model home and told to rehearse. The only gigs they could get were a few bars and some Elks lodge type venues, including the infamous appearance on the late night shock horror tv show. The band quit and returned to England. Joey Molland had also had Tom Evans blacklisted by the musicians union in America, preventing Tom from touring as Badfinger in the US. Then in 1983 the Milwaukee promoter sued Tom for 5 million dollars for breach of contract. Then Joey Molland sued Tom for back royalties from the original Badfinger albums. The stress from these lawsuits caused Tom Evans to commit suicide in November 1983.
