It's just a reminder not to ignore red flags or green flags that were present from your initial interactions. For instance, if you're STILL surprised that Bobby didn't make it to an event, then you weren't listening all these years and should've gleaned that a long time ago when it was still evident. If you knew that about him all this time and still expected him to make it to the event, then you didn't follow the advice from that statement. It boils down to: Pay attention and adjust your expectations and considerations accordingly. Don't be blindsided by something that was obvious to anyone paying attention.
