I know Blue Jay's can be noisy and hog the feeder, but in the winter I love them. Cardinals & Blue Jays together in the tree, with snow on the ground, look like Christmas ornaments! And they are so smart.

The problem with Blue Jay is like, with most Jay's, they are large and aggressive

Isn’t that due to them being part of the corvid family? Magpies, Crows, and Ravens seem to be really aggro with other birds at times.

When my mom, who loves birding, was working at a retirement home for men of the cloth, she had long conversations with one of the residents who also loved bird watching. Her most memorable and funniest was one on blue jays. She said it was the closest she's ever seen someone of the cloth use profanity. He basically said blue jays are the a-holes of the bird realm.

I have 2 pairs of cardinals living in my yard. They live close enough that they track my schedule and are always first to the feeders in the early afternoon. Because of this I didn't realize they are usually late feeders, so I learned two thing today. That they are late feeders and that mine eat according to my schedule lol. I do love them and my other birds. There was a day I wasn't feeling well so I was going to forego a day of feeding, but my cardinal buddy was sitting out at the box feeder at lunchtime staring at my door like "where food tho?" And it made me feel guilty enough to haul my sick self out there and refill the feeders. I appreciate them. In my area cardinals are also viewed spiritually as signs of loved ones who have passed on. A week or so after my very beloved dog passed I noticed one of my cardinals perched on a branch directly outside my bedroom window, out in the open, staring at me, which I thought was very unusual bc as you said, they prefer cover even in the safety of my yard as I have 2 very large trees for them to hide in. He sat for a while and we watched each other until I reached for my camera and he flew away. It was probably a coincidence but the timing of it gave me a lot of comfort. So that's why I'm willing to let them guilt me into feeding them lol. Cardinals will always be a welcome sight at my feeders.

I have had similar situations with my cardinals. 💛 Even though initially I didn't pay much attention to the visiting of loved ones passed. Now I enjoy my time with them and of course think about loved ones. 2 and 4 legged, I have so many loved and remembered. I enjoy the Cardinals and also all birds who visit my backyard. 🙌 I am blessed to be able to fill the feeder and heated waterer. 🙌 I enjoy counting how many different ones are there at a time. People need to learn to get along so well!

My husband has been feeding birds in the yard for decades. We have a year round birdbath that is heated, and a few different kinds of feeders. We also provide birds with roosting boxes for the winter and clean bird houses. My husband keeps a bird journal and we have seen some rarer birds at our humble home. We have always had many different birds, but noticed a jump in the number of less seen birds during the pandemic lock-down. This gives me hope that more of the creatures we share the planet with may survive the condition we are leaving the place in.

The Tufted Titmouse seems a bit smarter than other songbirds (from what I've witnessed). So far, they're the only bird at the feeder that will come to the window and bang on it if there are too many birds at the feeder or if the feeder is out of birdseed.

House wrens are really a hoot too!! The bachelor males will build multiple nests in houses, trying to attract a female. If she likes his handiwork, she'll mate with him, and he helps care for the young and cleans out the nest of their droppings, and when they've fledged, he kicks the lady to the curb and starts over again!!! I have chickens (so I stopped using feeders so as to not attract all of the birds/less chance of them spreading fuses disease) but the wrens love flirting with the hens!! VERY amusing to watch!! The only "feeders" I put out are hummingbird feeders bc they don't congregate and they're a joy to watch!! The other birds have plenty of seeds, berries and insects since we are surrounded by forest

I get all of these species at my feeding station with the exception of the Black Capped Chickadee. I do, however, get the Carolina Chickadee in great numbers because I live in Eastern Virginia. I’m also happy to report that I get lots of Eastern Bluebirds, Downey Woodpeckers, and Carolina Wrens! I’m constantly cleaning and filling bird feeders, but it’s absolutely worth it for the joy these birds bring.

I've seen the exact same distribution as you, here at my daughter's house in the Maryland DC suburbs. She also gets Hairy, Downy, and Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Dark-eyed Juncos in winter, Song Sparrows, Mourning Doves, Blue Jays, and Red-winged Blackbirds. I've seen a Pileated Woodpecker in the trees but it doesn't come to the feeder. Just yesterday a Northern Flicker was ground feeding beneath the feeder. Maybe we'll put out suet for them. I look forward to new species as the Spring migration kicks off.

Really love the Downy Woodpecker as well. Actually, in general, the Woodpeckers seem to be pretty docile. I watched a Northern Flicker just sit on my bird feeder for several minutes (perhaps to stay warm in the winter) not phased by any other birds that would quickly come to grab some food. And the other birds didn't seem phased either.

I stopped feeding the birds due to salmonella outbreaks in the pine siskins that swarm the feeders in PNW. So I garden for the birds. The hummingbirds have the Salvias, fuschias and agastache. The chickadees have an elaborate ritual to " steal" the blueberries I planted for them. 🥰 The house finches and lesser goldfinches love the sunflowers and will deseed a flower in five minutes. I have 4 water stations fountains and baths that really bring in the birds . I just wish the crows would stop stealing the copper pieces I place in them to help deter algae growth. I'm scrubbing bird baths today. They give me pieces of broken glass and pottery but it's not an even trade though i appreciate the thought!

Have a Blessed New Year, and thank you for sharing your video. We live in New England and see all of these throughout the year. I love to feed the birds year-round - they make my days! 🙂. We are also fortunate to get visits from the Indigo Buntings and Eastern Bluebirds; they are gorgeous! The latter is a sweet and gentle bird - it reminds me of a soft spoken person. They are a delight to have around. We had a brood this past 2022, and what a sight to behold. A pair of Tree Swallows have nested for 2 consecutive years in one of our bird houses, which is usually in high demand - we call it the Red Roof Inn because you guessed it. The Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds come every late spring too. And what a sight for sore eyes is to behold the Northern Cardinals on a white blanket of snow during winter!

Thank you for posting this informative video. My mother was a birdwatcher and maintained a feeder for gold finches. She always said, “I want to fly like they do.” Recently, I was gifted two bird feeders. I went to the store and bought a bag of seed for Songbirds. The birds have come and four of the five birds on this video come to visit. Most of these birds I’d never seen in the wild on a branch. Now I see them everyday and I’m hoping to learn their song to recognize them by their sound. Thank you for providing names. The gifts came because I’d mentioned how much fun it would be for the current visiting felines to see birds in our yard…voila!

I'll tell you the benefits of a few species not mentioned (some aren't birds too). If squirrels come and eat seeds that have spilled, that is a good thing. Squirrels are out in the daytime, so it is better that they eat the spilled seeds than have them remaining for the night crew of rats or mice. Chipmunks will eat mice; they seem more carnivorous than squirrels from what I've seen. Blue jays (from what I seen today) where warning all the birds and critters that a Cooper's hawk was around. If your feeders don't work for mourning doves, they will be happy just for a place where they feel safe; I used to have them hang out at my place before I even started feeding them. Mourning doves will eat spilled seeds; again, you don't want to be attracting some members of the night crew (rats & mice). I also love the 4 species that I mentioned a whole lot (just as I do with so many other native species!)....but what I said is also true.

European Starlings come as well, but we open our patio door and startle them away. We have eastern bluebirds but they don't come to the feeder...they nested once in a robin house on our deck. We get sparrows from time to time as well, but not as often as the pine siskins.

We have a ton of different cute birds too like tons of them, I think I have all the birds on your list but the starlings have been visiting. I love all my birds, so that's when I pull out my .22 caliber PCP air rifle and take care of the starlings. Now, I have lowered the numbers of starlings, and I see new birds almost all the time.

There could NEVER be a bird I wouldn't want at our bird feeders. Any & all birds are ALWAYS WELCOME at any of our feeders. I couldn't & wouldn't pick & choose who I welcome to our feeders. All birds, squirrels, etc., all of God's birds desiring our offerings are always welcomed with love.❤❤🐦🐦🕊🦜

I have all of these minus the nuthatch at my feeders! One of our black-capped chickadees has also taken up residence in our birdhouse! I’m new to birding and this is super exciting!! It’s fun to see them in distinct pairs. We have a pair of a male and a female cardinal that stays near the front yard, and a pair of male and female house finches. Theres a ton of chickadees but I don’t know how to tell the genders apart. Same for the titmice. Still a ton of fun to watch at the feeders! I’ll have to put out some suet and hope I attract a nuthatch :)

The male American Gold Finch is my favorite bird. They're so beautiful and bright. It's unusual here to see just one though as they usually come down from the trees in a flock. Love them. When I first moved here to S.C. and put out my feeders I saw a bird that I thought was a parrot that had escaped from someone's house. It was green. I couldn't believe my eyes. The next day or so I saw more and then I realized it was not a parrot. It was a Pine Warbler. Very cool!!!

I love all these birds. Year round, but especially now that Spring is almost here. You can hear the difference in their calls, they sense the change.

Great video! Greetings from South Texas, RGV. We get the Cardinal, Tufted Titmouse, American Goldfinch migrates through here, but year round we get the Green Jay, the Great Kiskadee, Altamira Oriole, and a host of migrating birds our favorite is the purple Martin who live in our backyard from May to August. Lots different raptors too. All of them beautiful , all of them providing us a bounty of pleasure.

I live in the Northwest near Canada. Some of my favorite birds are the flame like Western Tanager, the elusive Varied Thrush, Stellers Jays, Evening Grosbeaks, and red shafted Flickers. We also have Gold finches, Purple Finches, My favorite hummingbird is the orangey Rufous hummingbird. Many kinds of hawks and eagles as well, several types of migrating swans and geese. Many more, too.

Cardinal, Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, House Finch, House Sparrow, and Mourning Dove are the most common birds at my feeders. I’d like to have Goldfinches, but they rarely come to the feeders. However, they do come to get seeds from flowers I’ve planted. I also see Brown Thrashers, Eastern Towhees, and more rarely Blue Jays.

Silly nuthatch story - I have a finch that has recently decided to just sit in the feeder and enjoy the view for long stretches throughout the day. Needless to say, other birds would like to use that feeder but many don't want to while they are in there (as many of the other birds are smaller). Earlier this week a nuthatch was hopping and flying around the feeder trying to figure out what to do. They then land on the bench below the feeder, then fly up and hold onto the bottom side of the feeder and quickly jetting around to the top of the feeder - SURPRISE, B**CH! hahahaha the finch was so surprised and took off and the nuthatch got a couple seeds. About 10 minutes later it happened again except this time the nuthatch shimmied down the metal rod above the feeder then dropped in unannounced to scare off the finch. The birds are endlessly entertaining
