The bitumen sheet looks great on the walls, but considering how easily it cuts, it might be worth a lining of osb or plywood on the inside for security. You’ve got a chunky looking door and lock, but the quickest and quietest way in would be cutting through the walls. Just a thought. Great video and explanation as always.

I know it was partly due to the poor weather, but this just shows how worthwhile it is to construct your door and window surrounds in advance of the frame build - it all came together beautifully Matt I really like the look of the vertical bitumen sheet despite it being a value option ! Will you be following up with an interior video and the guttering - I would like to see this ?

Hi Matt had a quick look a the roof sheeting company website , works out about £45 pound a square meter plus I assume edge panels etc . But considering the price of rubber sheeting and the fact you have to build a roof in the first place plus insulate it , I reckon those insulated panels seem a good bet . Be interesting for you to do a costing comparison on the two systems , I appreciate you haven’t had to pay for your panels but it would still help others to make an informed decision . Finally as we all know the price of pre-made sheds these days is very expensive , and they don’t come anywhere near the quality of your out buildings . Many people who are interested in DIY would lean a lot from your informative channel . 👍

I was taught to put the fixings through the peaks to reduce the risk of leeks (and leaks!) from pooled water 25 years ago. It might also help spread the load better through the corrugations, but I'm not an expert and this is just my gut feeling.

A great project very well presented. I built a structure forming three stables and a feed room. I used similar cladding. The only problem I had was using screws within two to three inches away from the board edges they split easily. Using a nail gun worked perfectly with no splits.

Always super impressed with how you do all this on your own! I agree the wood cladding on the front is a really nice aesthetic with the other walls being bitumen. A bit more work, a bit more expense but definitely worth it 👍

You are right, NEVER put your roofing screws in the valley’s of the roofing sheets The valley’s is where the rain water runs, and no matter the screws rubber washers it will eventually leak Always put roofing screws in the peaks

This was a great set of video series. Personally i prefer longer videos like this. Now you could break down the wall between the sheds and connect them. Then you would have a super long workshop. That of course would necessitate another shed build (you see where this leads), which will make for more great content. Also, I see a shepherd's hut at the end of that garden in the future :D Little wood stove in it etc. Great place for that cup of tea :D Cheers.

I'm curious how drainage works off the roof... the last piece of trim looks like it would dam the water in, unless I missed something? Thanks for explaining how you do things. With every build you do I'm getting more confident to tackle my own one day!

Great shed Matt, and I've looking to replace my pre-built shed with a self-made one myself and there are some good tips here. David Musson Fencing has much better prices on fencing/feather edge than the DIY stores 125x22x2.4m is £1.44 vs Wickes 100x11x2.4m at £3.30. Also I think you're pretty local to me 🤫so its about a £40-50 delivery charge, but pays for itself after around 30 boards.

I think personally I would have done a couple of things differently: The Bitumen cladding has some advantages but at the bottom edge you have created a potential home behind the pabels for "Creatures" plus possible access for rodents into the shed. Perhaps it might have been a good idea to infill the bottom cavities with either a sheeting accessory fitting (if your mfg offers one) or if pushed wire wool. I am guessing you could still do that? On the wooden cladding (which I prefer) I always screw the cladding so that the following piece overlaps the fastening. The advantage is it makes the fastening more waterproof plus aids security. The downside is that if a piece of cladding needs to be replaced it means a degree of stripdown. I also put stainless steel rodent meshing as a wrap under the flooring and up circa 400mm behind cladding. I have learnt the hard way over 30 years with previous sheds!!!

The shed is looking great, I used the same kind of panels as the roofing for a couple of sheds i made and its holding up really well. I screwed into the peak and so far its worked quite well. On a vertical application i don't think there is any issue of standing water and I would probably go with screwing into the valley like you did.

Ive never seen a shed that was built where they completely forgot the walls. I built a shed recently and made a ton of mistakes, certainly do not entertain the idea of being an above average or for that matter an average or diy hobbyist builder. But I really had no trouble whatsoever remembering to add the walls. 😂😂

By having the battens horizontal, does that not create a barrier for any moisture that finds it way back there from escaping out of the bottom? I’d be worried about water pooling on top of the battens and them rotting.

Great use of bitumen roofing panels as walls - especially turning the corner! My initial view was that I would have hung the door to open the other way to make it easier to access from your workshop. Am I missing something?

Hi Matt, this is a treat! The only thing that occurred to me from the shots at the end is, are the roofing panels going in the right direction? Shouldn’t they follow the pitch so rain doesn’t pool along the ridges?

I think they do follow the pitch of the roof. I believe the roof is pitched along the length of the shed rather than the width.
