Just to add something I learned from testing: the USB controller on the Cloud II did not work with the PS4 in my experience. So you'll have to adjust the volume levels in the PS4 settings. But the Alpha S controls including 7.1 worked perfectly on PS4. EDIT: Cloud II USB card works on PS4 with a firmware update.

Keep in mind though, the Alpha was connected to a dedicated sound card without the cheap and crappy sound dongle Cloud 2 and Alpha S come with.

Just a comment for the splitter part. Most laptops with only one jack have what is called a combo jack that works as both a mic jack and a headphone jack, so when you plug the headset in you just use the single jack and select the headset as the default speaker and mic option in your settings and your laptop will actually pick up mic input as well as drive the headphones. On these combo jacks a splitter is not needed, for this same reason a lot of these headphones can actually be used the same way on mobile devices as both headphones and you can even use the mic for calls!

I bought my cloud 2 used from Music Go Round.. of all places. Out of all the headhones I used, I really like these because they are way comfortable and sound really good. For my amp, I use the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. Once I installed Dolby Atmos (trial) on my PC it's been killing amazing. Some other headphones I used prior are the Crossfade LP2, Philips Fidelio X2hr and the old school PS3 Pulse wireless headphones. I also use my very old Astro Mixamp once in a while just for fun, but I mainly keep it simple using my Scarlett. I don't really care much for the 7.1 amp cable.. I'll keep it in case I need to travel.. I don't know haha. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I always wondered if I was missing out by using the older Cloud 2.

Because of this review i just buyed Alpha S because: 1. I had a pair for Alpha from 4 years, and they are old(you can see the foam), but i broke the cable and a good cable for headphones is pretty expensive; beside of this issue, the headphones are very resistant 2. Here(In Romania) Alpha cost 80$ and Alpha S are 50 $ at sale 3. I have the adaptor cable from Alpha (but i dont use the mic) 4. I use them daily and am very pleased 5. I wanted to switch to other headphones, but still from the same brand 6. Overall, if they are the same, and S is cheaper, why not? Great job with this review and thank you!

I have test them too. Alpha has the better sound, Alpha S comes second, Cloud II comes third. On sound card, Alpha S has the best sound, Alpha comes second with the best bass, Cloud II comes third. Alpha is the winner for its price. In my country, Alpha has 60 euros, Cloud II has 80 euros and Alpha S has 100 euros. The only disadvantage is that the Alpha doesn't have dolby atmos 7.1 surround. That gives a huge differnet perspective on movies and some tv shows. But who actually watches movies with their headset?

You deserve more subs. Excellent detailed review and I like your explanation of each. I already have the CloudII and have used it for four years, I just needed to know if the Alpha had better audio quality. The most important aspect to me is dialogue audio, I'm deaf in one ear and struggle with certain frequencies in the other. Just for clarification would you say dialogue sounds louder/clearer on the CloudII or the Alpha? You seem to be the only person who has gone into this much detail of these headsets on KZbin. You've gained a new subscriber. 👍
@BadIntentStreamTechReviews3 жыл бұрын
The Alpha is more accurate in terms of everything being the right pitch/tone but I wouldn't say clearer. They're about even there. As for volume, the Cloud II actually got a bit louder on my PC. So for dialogue specifically, I don't think it's really an upgrade. I'm going to be testing a bunch more headsets in the future, so if one stands out for dialogue better than the Cloud II, I'll cover it and let you know.

after owning the Cloud 2's and Cloud Alpha's i can split them into this kind of list EDIT: i advise against buying the "New" Cloud 2's, since after HP bought HyperX the overall quality of the headset has just deminished too much to be worth, the sound quality and overall build quality is nothing as it used to be back then. I suggest searching for better alternatives. Cloud 2 Pros: -built like a tank -aditional velour earpads for when u want to open the sound stage a bit and very usefull in sommer -very comfortable, you can forget they are on your head -very good sound, but just for FPS game where footsteps are crucial -USB soundcard, so if you dont have good motherboard audio, you dont need to worry about it -fully closed back design Cons: -you can feel the braided cable brushing on your shirt -audio can be a bit better, for other stuff rather than only gaming -mic is alright for chatting Cloud Alpha Pros: -built like a tank -very good sound, for music ;watching movies; games etc... -sound pads are much thicker than cloud 2 -they are semi open back, meaning you will get wider sound stage (hence the good audio quality) Cons: -no aditional ear pads included -they can get uncomfortable after just few minutes of usage, because of higher weight and also because they didint put enough foam inside of the head band to counter it -you can feel the braided cable brushing on your shirt -they come only with a spliter, so if your motherboard is old or doesnt have good audio static protection, you will hear all the white noise and everyone else will trough your mic -mic is alright for chatting -because they are semi open back, they have few holes on top of the ear cups and everything you listen too can be heard trough the mic, so if you are talking to someone and listening to something there is most likely a chance that your friends will hear everything My recommendation would be as said in the EDITED part above, the new Cloud 2's jsut dont compete with how the old ones were, so get the Alpha instead or search for alternatives.

Hey there, I watched your video a few times, so I can be 1000% sure that I will pick the right headset. You are the only person who actually compared the sounds from the earpieces of the three models and I was Able to chose my perfect One. I wanted a headset that I can use differently in gaming and for music. I bought cloud alpha s (Kingston). The sound card, even though doesn't amplify the sound that great, gives you the pitch and sound of steps that you need to hear. Especially in WARZONE 2. However if I put the headset without the card into my dj console the sound is amazing.... I mean d*mn. the bass is perfect not to laud not to soft. I think that If you put the 3.5 in your phone, it wont sound that great since the headset needs a bit better sound card, to be able to show the full potential. That aside I think your video was verry helpful and very precise for about 95 percent, of facts about those 3 models. I'm impressed the way you do your videos. I'm looking forward for more. And also thank you. I bought Razor Kraken with a sound card before HyperX. It was terrible i returned them. Awful sound awful bass, big as h*ll. Don't recommend it. Keep It real, Keep it Up

And how does Astro A40 TR without MixAmp compare to them? Im speding a lot of time with headphones on so i was thinking about Cloud II, but i don't really play FPS. I don't really care about Bass either... I mostly talk on discord, listen to music And play single player games from time time. All 3 Clouds have similar price in my country, so i can pay a bit more for alpha s if they are worth it.

Alright considering the splitter and Equalizer APO it's pretty straightforward. Comes down to which one of these two is more important. Better sound overall: Alpha. Better comfort: Cloud II. As for the A40, I prefer it over both in terms of sound and it's close to the Cloud II in comfort. The A40 might not be necessary if you don't care about bass though.

@@BadIntentStreamTechReviewsrecommend me a headphone for music in this budget who has alot of bass
@ALTF-nd4wc3 жыл бұрын
Burh, for the bass, are 4 simple steps: Step 1: Install the music on your pc Step 2: open groove music Step 3: set the equalizer to car bass or make a custom profile Step 4: Enjoy! :) I did this on hyperX cloud 2 & cloud 2 wireless
@BadIntentStreamTechReviews3 жыл бұрын
You can use pretty much any EQ software, not just Groove Music. Bass won't be as strong as a lot of other consumer headsets though simply due to the drivers.

I have a Cloud Alpha since 2018, and due to my computer sound leaking hard to the mic I decided to get an alpha S on a sale. Your review is pretty much accurate on the comparision of the products, though I realised my normal Alpha has a slightly better sound over the Alpha S. Very easy to miss the difference in quality though. I noticed someone else comenting about the sound going out on the normal Alpha when moving the cable, and this is really accurate. happens all the time. I believe these sound issues may be fixed on the Alpha S due to the USB connection, but this may be reason the mic on the normal alpha is better like you mentioned in the video. As long as I get less technical problems with the alpha S, Im happy with it. PS: those buttons that change the bass quality on the alpha S are really useless. Just set it to max bass and it sounds just like the original one, like you mentioned.

How tf does your computer sound leak into the mic?
@marcellomoraes71232 жыл бұрын
@@Yoshi92 don't ask me bro, but if you do your search you will find that it's a pretty common issue with the Cloud Alpha Classic. People from my discord could listen to my game even if I used the mute button that comes in the headphone's wire. Nothing fixed this, and I changed everything I could (PC, wire, pads, microphone...). The solution was to live with it until I bought a new one. Btw, I returned my alpha S and bought a cloud orbit. Much more expensive, but much better sound quality.

@marcellomoraes7123 Жыл бұрын
@@Max44611 nope, no leaks. But like I said, you may not like the S's sound quality since you got used to the regular alpha. The good part is that you can simply return the product if you don't think it's worth the price. Sometimes it's better to get a superior one on a sale, like the Revolver.

Great review. I have Cloud 2 and bought Steel Series Arctis 3. My friends hated the way I sounded on that Mic. Noting we did could fix it (perhaps uninstalling GG, but then at that point I want a refund)

Holy shit, I almost changed every thought I’ve had on buying the Alpha S because of the bass, but you said I can use the RAZER SOUND CARD, dude that’s incredible……I had a black shark v2 and idk why but I don’t think I liked it, I ended up breaking it a while back but don’t remember but I still have the sound card that’s amazing

That’s what it was, random memory since you mentioned how uncomfortable the black sharks were, I got pissed off and my head felt clamped so I’m pretty sure I got pissed off and flung them off my head ass fast as I could straight to my desk then boom the little medal tiny bar snap out the plastic

Hey im just wondering, with the Alpha S can you plug the 3.5mm jack directly into my pc's motherboard or do i need a splitter cable to split the 3.5mm cable into a mic cable and a audio cable?

Not sure if many people know this but if you pair any of these headsets with the Astro mixamp… GOD it’s a game changer!!! Take my word for it
@BadIntentStreamTechReviews2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I've used all these with the MixAmp, but I have a different opinion. While it increases the volume a bit more than you can get with a motherboard, the overall sound quality doesn't actually change. The EQ controls on that are also limited to a 5-band that can go +/- 5 dB. I've had a better experience with the Arctis Nova Pro's GameDAC Gen 2. It supplies a lot more gain and the EQ is 10-band +/- 12 dB. But as long as it works for you, ultimately that's all that matters.

What a video!! Usually i never ever hit a comment but wow! exactly the video I was looking for. Appreciate the honesty!! Right now I have the HyperX cloud Alpha, which is a really good headset, just bought the HyperX cloud 2 because of the comfort and they cost me 59 dollars. You say that you hear the footsteps more clear wtih cloud 2, is it with 7.1 surround sound you hear them best or can you also hear the footsteps clear without 7.1? you mentioned that the bass goes low with 7.1 does it affect the footsteps? or do you hear the footsteps even better? because I want a headset for FPS Games and i think the cloud is to go for cloud 2??
@BadIntentStreamTechReviews2 жыл бұрын
I always keep the surround sound off. Footsteps stand out more in the Cloud II to me just because of the frequency response - unrelated to the virtual surround sound effect.

Thank you for the excellent structure of this video. Organized af. Well done, man! Instant sub! I have my Cloud2 for more than 6 years now. Used everyday for about 12-16h (30.000h+ of usage). It fell down from desk or bed more than 100+ times. Aside from the outer appearance, this thing works damn fine. I love the sound for FPS. Friends complain about not hearing enemies in Siege, with crazy high price headphones + amps + whatever, but my Cloud2 gives me every sound. Only since last week, it started a classic broken speaker noise, only on max volume tho. I believe this will continue down to lower volume in some weeks, that's why I'm watching this video. But since the Cloud2 is 49€ in EU, it's gonna be Cloud2 again. 30k hours is an insane amount of time, for any product. I can't trust Kingston to have the same quality standard on all their headphones (because I doubt that perfect & durable products make you a leader in the tech market. But then, maybe it's just the gaming accessories part of Kingston, and all of their HyperX headsets are undestroyable?). sry 4 spam tl;dr: Cloud2 price & durability are out of this world, I have no choice. 😂

I've been having my Alpha for a while and it's getting pretty old and busted so I thought of buying a new headset. Problem is, I do like using a 7.1 remote because it make the sound so much better to me when listening to music and gaming (I turn it off for normal conversations). Am I actually making my mic sound worse by using a USB sound card rather than the splitter? Also, a very big downside to me for the Alpha is the sound wheel. It's very cheap and is bound to stop working properly pretty fast. I can't even really use it since it will make one of the ear stop working.
@BadIntentStreamTechReviews2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the USB sound card is definitely hurting the mic audio by a lot. I don't really like that volume wheel either, but fortunately that part alone isn't that expensive.
@GamesProject2 жыл бұрын
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews True and cables aren't exclusives so it's good because I have too many volume control (volume wheel, remote and buttons on keyboard but I noticed Remote control all sound while keyboard only control "Game" channel.). A shame really, I didn't realize it and when I tried using the splitter I just couldn't make it work somehow.. and I was too used to have the 7.1 in game and for music for better "immersion" and quality (and it doesn't affect discord). Now I'm looking for a different headset just in case mine gives up but within 100€ (not $), it's hard to find a headset that will sound good but not have a crap mic. I do have an external mic (Snowball Blue Yeti) but too echoey to be used properly currently. Well, I'll be still looking but this review was quite impressive, giving everything you need to make a proper choice. I was almost tempted to go for the Alpha S because another USB card and some buttons controls for chat and game channel like I have already but it doesn't work like I expected to (you don't change them without interfering with the other, it's a balance because if I get it right, you said that increasing one's volume reduce the other so I could completely reduce the game sound to zero and have the chat to max) and the price may be not worth if I were to keep using my HyperX Amp (which is basically the Cloud II remote) because that would be a fancy Alpha with some bass buttons which doesn't seems impressive if the max is like having the Alpha on "normal". Maybe if I find the S at a lower price. I was looking at some Sennheiser too, maybe a change in brand won't hurt.
