Badlands National Park (CAMP ON THE EDGE): Are you looking for the best motorhome for boondocking? Guess what you can boondock with any motorhome! We hit the Badlands boondocking area with our friends and had a great time. You can boondock with big rigs! The smallest rig was ours at 35 ft and the largest was 45 feet! Want to know how to find dispersed camping? It is easy! Campendium, Allstays, and RV Trip Wizard are my go to!

We were there summer of 2017 - right across from the radio tower. Beautiful spot! Hint for the washboard unpaved road (Sage Creek/Rim road) that runs west around the rim of the park: Don't try to go slow because it's rough. It's rough as a cobb if you go slow... unless you go faster! Speed up to maybe 35 - 40 mph and it magically smooths out. It seems counterintuitive, but it works. Great video folks!

Yes. We stayed at the Badlands overnight at the RV Park just outside the Park because the campground at the entrance was Full. It was Hot when we were there so we got up at o’dark thirty to see Sunrise within the Badlands. It was well worth it. Didn’t know about the spot you stayed until after that, but we hate running our generator for AC. It’s just too loud. We’ll have to go back when it’s cooler too.

We dispersed camp there on the edge of the Badlands just over 3 weeks ago! Loved it. Our journey tr: We hit Bass Pro on west side of Saint Louis (1), then Badlands (1), Reuter’s Campground (FCFS) for our Devil’s Tower day (1), Ponderosa CG in Cody (full hookups) (1), Madison GC in Yellowstone (4), Gros Ventre GC in Grand Teton (3), Manor (RVP) in Cody for Rocky Mountain (3). Then heading home staying at first Kansas Rest Area (1) then 15-1/2 hrs home to Owensboro, Ky. It was an EPIC trip !!

Great video loved it! I lived in South Dakota for five years when my father was stationed at Ellsworth AFB visited the badlands many times it was one of my favorite places we were stationed at during his 20 years of service it was a close contender with Ben Eielson AFB in Fairbanks Alaska. The Black Hills of South Dakota are beautiful tons of things to do and see. My wife and I were planning a trip to California this year that is now postponed until next year and South Dakota is definitely one of the stops along the way.❤️hope more South Dakota video is coming 👍❤️

My daughter and I boon docked in the badlands not too far from your spot(s). Loved it but didn't enjoy the ride in or out but the RV survived. Very windy, except for one night, but beautiful. I don't know if I'd take my 40ft motor-home back in there but glad we did it at least once.

We were just in the badlands a couple days ago...but it was in North Dakota. We visited Theodore Roosevelt NP which gave us some stunning views and some of the same wildlife you saw...so many prairie dogs! We stayed in Medora, ND in an OK RV park which was walking distance to town. Medora only has a population of about 130 people so "town" is subject to interruption. We ate at the Little Missouri Saloon and Restaurant...I love walleye and they did that VERY well. Travel on ... can't wait to see where you went from here.

Unloaded the motorcycle and spent the day riding around the park and of course we went to Wall Drug. The KOA was really nice. Good Video!!

Went to the Badlands last summer from NY. Stayed 4 nights at a private campground in Interior SD, just outside Badlands Park. Took a ride to Wall SD one day and discovered the availability of boondock camping on the edge as you are. After leaving the campground we immediately headed to the free camping area and stayed another 3 days there. Had a herd of bighorn sheep come up from over the ridge and pass within 20 feet of us. Beautiful area for my wiles rock collecting also.

I stayed at the National grassland a couple years ago. It WAS awesome but with my little trailer I was too freaked out with the wind shaking me all night for two nights. I was pretty sure I was going to blow right over the edge! I only stayed the two of the four nights that I planned then moved onto a campground outside of Rapid City. My suggestion if anyone says they are going to boondock there.... park with nose INTO the wind! Glad you finally made it there!

Custer State Park has become my favorite playground from the Wildlife Loop, to Needles Highway, to Iron Mountain Road that leads you to Mt. Rushmore. If you thought it was beautiful in a car, do it on a motorcycle, side by side or open air Jeep. So much better and the smells of the pine and cedar cannot be beat. Oh, and we camped right next to where you did in Buffalo Gap National Grassland! Love it! Thanks for the great video. Makes me want to go back immediately!

In this video you were talking about how much water you use. We use a water flow meter between the RV connection and the water hose. We use it each time we camp - boondocking or not - which gives us a general average daily use. This tell us how many days we can stay out w/o filling up. We do not rely on the RV light meters to tell us; they're very unreliable.

I just found your channel and am totally enjoying it. I'm from SD and love going to the Black Hills and Badlands. I love seeing people's reaction when they first experience the Hills.

Just spent the last two days here, absolutely amazing views. A little windy at night but it’s worth it.

This video was so cool and has gotten me SO excited for when we hit the road in 4.75 years but who’s counting. 😂 We don’t have the time to RV out west now but we will when Izzy retires and these views just get my blood rushing. 😊 The road is calling us! Thank you for sharing these great views and experiences! - MJ

We did Nomad's at the Badlands in June and true, it is phenomenal! And don't even get us started on Custer and the Black Hills. So much to see and explore, we will go back for sure. Thanks for another great video!! Headed over to look at a year to volunteer now..... ;-)

Enjoying Rapid City now for a month. Just attended Buffalo Roundup at Custer National Park. Thanks for the great video. We will try Needles hwy and say hi to your sister at the Pizza Mill. Another few weeks here to qualify for CCW. Enjoying our new domicile in South Dakota as we have just started full timing. Have to scoot south by mid-October. 4th generation Navy. Enjoying fam camps, TT and life on the road, after finally retiring last year. Fair winds and following seas.

Thanks for your service in the Greatest Navy in the World Randy! We are about to head South as well.....these 20 degree temps are nice, but they are falling fast.

We plan on boondocking on The Wall next July after hitting Custer State Park for several days. It's nice to know rigs bigger than ours were up there. I do recall watching an episode by Jason & Rae (Getaway Couple) when the Wall was just a mud pit after a huge storm. Lots of rigs were stuck in the mud. Weather permitting, it should be an incredible experience. Great video, y'all. Getting Sandy our Phabulous Phaeton ready for the big roady next summer: new roof, new floors, and next month, solar and lithium batts install. I'm beginning to think I just should have bought new, considering how much we've put into the reno. Also ditched our dolly tow Prius for a 2013 CRV and installed Roadmaster baseplate for our Nighthawk tow bar. The last straw with the dolly was when it fell on me (on the surgically-repaired shoulder--most of the neighborhood heard my extensive Navy repertoire of colorful language) so I really appreciate your videos on flat towing. I have seen the light. Pizza Mill in Custer . . . we'll be there. Thanks for the info on the walkies, too. Stay safe and happy travels. Fly Navy.

WOW! The dolly falling on me would have brought out the same language! Glad you were ok! Sounds like a great setup to hit the road in! You will be very happy once all the reno work is done for sure!!!!

We spent two weeks last year in the Badlands exploring the park, Wall, Rapid City, Mount Rushmore, and the surrounding area. We had a great time, one of the highlights from our cross country trip. We stayed at the Badlands Budget Host Motel and Campground in Interior South Dakota.
