RECALL ON MY 2024 ROAD GLIDE (letter of death)

I was hoping that I wouldn’t get the “letter of death”. The dreaded recall. In this weeks video, we will go over the letter together, and I will walk you through what the dealership is going to do, and what you can look for to prolong your time before taking your bike in to the dealership. Had mine done. Made an appointment. Took it in. They checked it. No chafing. They re-routed the wire. Took about 30-40 minutes. I wandered around the show room and kicked a few tires while I was waiting. I like your painted radiator cover..

Got mine done couple weeks ago. No issues, but my dealer rerouted some of the wires and ensure it was secured. Maybe an hour total time.

Good video. Noticed radiator (11:48) collects debris & road oil, building up from frt. tire. Fender should extend lower or at minimum a contoured mud guard. Cooling could be reduced. I realize short fender is sporty, guess clean often.

I seen that too. Almost thinking about going with a wrap around fender. It’s a direct hit for sure. Yes that cover protects some, but obviously not enough.

Mine did not expose copper but was told that it met criteria for repair. Luckily the part was installed and have my bike back.

My 24 H-D Nightster was throwing codes every ride. I took it in. On the third visit, they found wires inder the metal air box cover wore away and were shorting. The fixed it and now its all good. Hope this helps someone in the H-D Nightster world

This made feel less crazy about my reluctance to ever buy the first Gen of any new design. I love all the changes they made on the 24... but still felt I should wait for the 25. Same with pistols - a Mfg releases a brand new model, I wait a little bit, let em work out the "growing pains".

I got mine and took it in to the dealer. No rubbing on the harness so they re routed the harness and put additional zip tie. There probably should be a skid plate over all that. Surprised HD didnt do that. Thrashin makes one im pretty sure.

Thrashing makes a skid plate and so does running panther from Amazon. I’m actually in process of making a video about running panther’s skid plate. Be watching for that to come out. 👍✌️

Harley always rushes their junk out the door for their customers to do the validation that should have been done before the bike was rushed to market. Harley knows their customers are suckers for anything that is "new".

I dropped my 24 RG off the day before the hurricane hit. Asheville NC HD dealership got hit. Since then they aren't returning phone calls. I just want to know the status of my 800 Mile bike I only had a month before it crapped the bed.

Man that hurts! Hopefully you was outside the “hurricane” before it came through? Last I heard, Asheville HD was the home of donations etc, but they wasn’t physically open. From what I’ve seen HD didn’t get hit, so fingers crossed 🤞 your bike is good! 👍✌️

Looks like the days of simplicity are gone. Recalls are happening out the wazoo lately. BMW, Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc. Millions of vehicles have been recalled since the beginning of summer. Safe travels to you!

My local dealer claims they still do not have the parts to complete the warranty repairs and are not processing the recalls until they do.

Bro this is an easy fix 40 min. Unless you have done some 10,000 plus miles it is most likely that your machine is OK. The service check is easy and not all the 2024 models are affected unless the wiring was put in the very spot you describe. They will strap the wire to ensure it cannot rub and away you go. My 2024 SG with some 1600 miles was golden.

Too many bugs for me. Maybe a 2025 RG is in the future. Still have my old 22 with the A/C outlet, Satellite radio & Free GPS, which also makes it a little harder to move up.

The recall inspection and repair bulletin is available online at Harley’s Service Information Portal. To get to the area of the wire where it can chafe from rubbing on the engine case, you need to unbolt the radiator mount from the frame. To do this you have to remove the radiator cowling, the engine guard and pull the radiator reservoir loose from its plastic and lower rubber mount. You then can lean the mount with everything connected forward. Disconnect the voltage regulator plug and you can pull it up to inspect the wire. You can also get to where Harley wants the cable tie installed. The cable tie in the bulletin is not installed from underneath the bike. The only way to determine if your wire has chafed is to follow the procedure outlined in the in the repair bulletin. The repair kit which contains a new plug with a section of both positive and negative wires (red and black) already terminated will only be installed if copper is showing in the area of chafing. If the loom or wire insulation is worn but no copper is showing the repair kit will not be installed, only the cable tie to secure it away from the engine case.

When I first bought the bike, I observed that the cable insulation was short and re-insulated all of them, but it's not possible to see this problem. Harley's not what it used to be. The quality is very low. Since they don't sell the bikes cheaply, I wonder what the reason for this low quality is????! I have a pre-2000 Fat Boy and a 2012 VRod and they are far superior to my 2024 Road Glide CVO in terms of quality.

I wish I had the answer to that billion dollar question. Only thing I can think of is quantity over quality! They are trying to produce so many bikes a day, that they are sacrificing quality. Now I know not many people are going to agree with that. BUT how many times have you worked in a manufacturing job where they preach quality, but for sake of numbers they push out missing zip ties, or tightened bolts etc…? In my 30 something years in manufacturing when quality starts to suffer, it’s because upper management is pushing numbers. They will have banners across the outside of the building and papers on the bulletin boards, about quality number 1!! In all reality it’s that number at the end of the day. I could be wrong. I’ve been wrong before, but missing small things like zip ties, tightened bolts etc… just screams “rushed” to me.

$30k bike hosed because of a $0.17 zip tie. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd even trust a $0.17 zip tie on the bottom of your bike to prevent a 60A electrical short.

There is A LOT of wires under that bike! 10lb of crap stuffed in a 5lb sack. Anything can rub anywhere. It is a little concerning for sure. But im gonna ride it like I stole it, and hopefully if something happens, it will happen while it’s still under warranty! 👍✌️

I know they have the warranty on lock with aftermarket parts. For the most part you have to use HD tuners, cams, big bore kits etc, if you want to make your bike fast while keeping the warranty…but I really don’t see how they could take a bike you own, and turn it down. Especially without your consent that would be illegal in itself.

Dealer checked my bike (2400 miles) last week, no chaffing noticed, applied zip tie, good to go. Luckily, only fix needed was zip tie because recall repair kits haven't arrived yet at dealership.

Honestly, electronics has its place. I don’t think we need all the electronics on these bikes. It’s nice, but it takes away from the experience. I fell in love with going out and getting lost on my bike. Now you can’t get lost. Not only that, you have traction control, abs, and everything else to help aid the rider. I love my 2011 Street Glide because it has none of that! You have to know how to ride a bike. You feel every input. But I will say…that 117 on those 24’s are a beast for what they are. So I will deal with a little bit of electronics, for that performance!! Lol 👍✌️
