@@brandongibson85 Brother when I started this channel years ago it was to help people help themselves. What I’ve come to find out is a lot of people don’t want to help themselves. They want to be spoon fed and your time means nothing to them. People will click on a video that seems to be about what they need to know, never watch one second of the video or skip through missing all the important bits, then ask questions that were already answered in the video. Then when I tell them to watch the video they get pissed like I’ve got time to type out answers for 150,000 people when the answer was already in the video. This video is a perfect example of that if you read through the comments. Are used to reply and let them know the answer was in the video or if the answer is in another one of my videos I would just post a link to that video. But now days for the most part if it’s obvious they didn’t pay attention I just don’t even reply. It’s just a waste of time. My parents always told me “You can’t help those who won’t help themselves.” And if I tried to take the time to re-answer every question that was needlessly asked I wouldn’t have time to do my read job. I’d literally be sitting on my phone 22 hours a day.

@BadLuckGarage4 жыл бұрын
700r4 and early 4L60 used same bolt pattern as a TH350. So unless you get a converter with dual patterns you’ll need to grind the bolt holes a bit. I edited that info out because a 700r4 makes zero sense to do in an ls swap when the 4L60e fits exactly in its place and doesn’t require a tv cable or crude lockup techniques.
@rafatrill4 жыл бұрын
@@BadLuckGarage well I have one that was currently rebuild and works great. I was just going to used it in a daily driver build. Till it breaks then upgrade to a 4l80/6l80 what ever I can find
@BadLuckGarage4 жыл бұрын
Like I always say brother, it’s your build so you do you. But if it were me I would sell the 700r4 to someone and buy a 4L60e or better yet a 4L80. The 700 is going to require more work and money as you’ll need to buy adapters to properly attach the TV cable to the ls throttle body and there’s the flexplate grinding, and you’ll need to purchase the lockup kit to control the torque converter lockup since it lacks the computer controlled lockup. Or you can wire it to a toggle switch and lock it up manually while cruising. We used to wire them up that way back in the day. Just don’t forget to unlock it when you come to a stop. Lol.

Because a 93 4L60 flex plate is totally different than a 99-up LS style 4L60e flex plate. Your 93 4L60 is basically just a 700r4 with a new name and some extra wires. The 99-up 4L60e is a completely different case with interchangeable bellhousing and “upgraded” internal components and fully computer controlled.

Hey so I used the flex plate and bolts it came with and got it all bolted up. I can’t spin the torque converter because the torque converter stub is hitting the bolts that mount the flex plate to crank. I’m going to try the oem bolts that I off the dished flex plate see if it clears.
@BadLuckGarage4 жыл бұрын
B Hinz sounds like you don’t have your converter fully seated into the transmission. I’m also not sure how your converter snout would be wide enough to make contact with the bolts. That makes no sense to me.
@JKlife7604 жыл бұрын
Bad Luck Garage The converter is fully seated in the transmission. I figured it out it was the flex plate mounting bolts. I meant to say that the snout on the torque converter is welded inside the dish part of the converter. Well the dish part was hitting the bolts that came with the flex plate. It was grinding on the dish where the snout is welded to. The oem bolts are shorter at the head by 1/8 of a inch. When I put the oem bolts in the torque converter was able to spin. Thanks for the tip on the flex plate though. Everything bolted right up. No shimming or anything.

@BadLuckGarageКүн бұрын
@@Dying2Live220 This is one of the reasons I said in the video that I avoid the long crank flange engines. Depending on what torque converter you use, it may slip right in or you may have to do some grinding to make it work. Yea I personally don’t see any benefit in using a 700r4 in an LS swap, only negatives as it creates more problems, especially in regard to the TV cable and it doesn’t take advantage of the computer controlled shifting and and tuning that the 4L60e or 4L80e would be able to. Matter of fact the ONLY time I would personally see it as a feasible option is if you were going to be using a carb setup instead of the fuel injection.

@BadLuckGarage3 жыл бұрын
What transmission are you using? If it’s a th350/th400 then either use a th400 specific converter or a dual pattern th350/400 converter. If it’s a 700r4 or pre99 4L60 then you’ll have to either slot the holes as explained in the video or purchase an aftermarket flex plate.
@notsure78743 жыл бұрын
@@BadLuckGarage th400 - which is why I'd want to use a 4L80E flexplate. Here's the issue: the 11.5" and dual pattern torque converters I'm looking at (Summit, and I think I looked at Jegs) are nearly twice the cost of a 10.75" TC. Lots of aftermarket TC's for th400/350 only seem to come in 10.75", So I'll be using the dished 4L60E flexplates I have, and slotting them, I'd just rather have the holes drilled in the right spot (on an aftermarket 4L80E type plate) and not have to use that cheesy adapter or weaker plate. The Dirty Dingo flexplate other than being SFI rated, is nothing more than a 4L80E plate with 11.5" hole pattern. I just don't get why they wouldn't drill both holes if they're going to the trouble of making a plate and getting it SFI rated and whatnot. 100% I'd have bought that plate if it was double drilled.

Does this work with a stock converter also? I see he has an aftermarket in the video that has 2 sets of holes in it... just confirming. Thanks

Yes, depending on the bolt pattern of the stock converter as explained in the video. If you don’t understand how to measure your converters bolt circle, there’s a link in the video description to a video explaining how to measure it.

What about the electronics for the 4L80E? Are there any sensors that the LS engine or computer requires from the 4L80E that would be missing from the TH350?
@BadLuckGarage Жыл бұрын
Those are turned off in the tune. When you’re running an old non-computer controlled transmission, you basically set the tune up the same way you would with a manual transmission.

Everyone that needs flex plate and a adapter Jegs sells the set for the LS to older gm trans for $135 that’s all you will need to bolt it up

You can buy the 4L80 flexplate with spacer and bolts for less than $70 from most auto parts stores brother. Why would you want to pay twice as much from Jegs?

Thank you!! Now let me ask a question. What flexplate to mount an old school 454 to a modern 4l80e?
@BadLuckGarage4 жыл бұрын
The 4L80 actually came behind 454s in truck applications in the 90s so there’s no guesswork involved. Goto autozone and have them look up a chevy truck with a 7.4/4L80 combo and get your flexplate. 👍🏻

Okay I guess it does fit LOL. But what about all the electrical and other stuff I read I need to add the kick down there anything else that would be a major role in the install
@BadLuckGarage2 жыл бұрын
@@sevaslee4865 There are no electronics for a th350 unless using one with lockup. (Very rare and weak so I don’t generally recommend using it). If you want to use a kickdown cable then yes, you’ll need a bracket for it and a longer cable. But most people using a non-overdrive transmission in an LS swap are doing so strictly for racing purposes and just block the kickdown cable as shown in both my th350 shift kit install video and my th350 manual valve body install video. In any other instance I would recommend using a 4L60e or 4L80e instead.
