BADMINTON BACK SINGLES FOOTWORK

Can someone explain to me why you step outside the lines? I play badminton myself but you go a meter to far.All unnecessary extra meters and time too loose in this case. If you want to make a good example on how to do this do it right all the way. Stay between the lines.

Ton Postma A coach who taught me the footwork asked me to do the same steps, not so much in outside of the singles serve line, because he wanted us to measure the number of steps to get to the line for us to judge if the birdie will go out or land on the line.
